In a similar situation that occurred fairly recent I was told the exact opposite, and that we have a precedent for considering slurs ban worthy regardless of severity.
Not that I agree with Fandom's strictness but if we have a precendent it's only fair to stick to it.
I'd like to add that part of the reason for considering that instantly ban-worthy is that those prior offenses required deliberately bypassing the slur filter by changing some letters of the slur, while this case didn't do that. I, personally, think that dims the severity a bit, although that strange response probably bumps the severity up as well.
