Death Battle Discussion Thread 05

When is the series finale? When they reach like 1000 episodes? Probably when they get bored of death battle.
Probably when a new show is ready to take over/succeed Death Battle.

Speaking of Death Battle, here's a new Community Death Battle - Krilli vs Saitama

We know Krillin's a Universe-buster and we have a cap for when Saitama isn't trying, but we don't know how wide the gap between Saitama trying and not trying is

So looking at Falcon and Johnny, at their best (meaning Inner Power Johnny), they're very close in power, but Johnny is much faster and has more variety in his abilities, so I'm leaning towards Johnny

Iirc Ben stinger said they won't bring saitama it on the show until the manga/webcomic ends to see if he has limits or not.

I still have a problem with using that Energy stuff in AP for Ice specifically unless you're arguing they use that same amount of energy in spells that do things other than make ice to hit you with. It makes sense in the case of the latter, but using it in AP when this is just how ice manipulation works in general might be problematic for AP scaling if we use it. Ice Manipulation on a planetary scale might be ******* Star Level in terms of energy then, which kind of flies in the face of how much they can actually destroy using their ice. At best, it could be used as a "how much energy is needed to freeze the opponent thing" where the opponent needs a higher durability if they want to neg freezing, but that's not how this works. It's debatable to use that because it assumes everything with high durability resists ice manipulation or freezing, which isn't true, because freezing or vaporizing the materials in a body isn't a durability thing, it's a melting/freezing point chemical thing. It's all around not something that should translate to viable AP, given the fact that it necessitates ice manipulators to have higher AP than their feats no matter what. Just making a wall level ice pillar becomes significantly above wall level. Gross.

Random question, but have we ever had profiles on here for anyone from Buso Renkin? I'm reading the manga right now and it has some unique weaponry and, by my untrained eye, at least Building level feats for one of the stronger characters

Watching the new DBCast made my head hurt. Especially considering the Duck Trio's speed feats are way above that of Camp Camp's, meaning they would doge everything they have and then blitz. Also, why the heck do we not have profiles for Huey, Dewey, and Luie, but have profiles for every other DuckTales character?

Also somebody should actually recalculate the Ice dust feat. Because Wiz specifically states that 231 tons of tnt is the MOST it could be. Implying that was the high end.

Captain Falcon vs Johnny Cage...

Johnny Cage only seems to win with his potential unleashed against Legend of Falcon Captain.

In every other scenario, Falcon wins, especially if it's Smash Falcon where he stomps/blitzes.

Which one? The newest one just came out on Thursday for YouTube. However, if you're talking about the one with Saitama VS Krillin, it's live on Tuesday, Wednesay for FIRST Members, and Thursday for YouTube.

They would allow Smash moves, but power levels will still be capped at the anime/game canon.

Also, strongest mode in canon achieved by oneself without outside help.

So Large Town / Supersonic+ Captain Falcon vs City / MHS+ Johnny Cage.

Also, the Weiss vs Mitsuru episode, the Death Battle Cast recently aired, and schedule for the upcoming Death Battle Cast. Also the poll for the upcoming Community Death Battle.

Soul-of-Landale got this.

Since Mitsuru's story is finished and Weiss' isn't, isn't this an unfair fight? This has happened plenty of times before, but just because a character's story isn't finished doesn't mean they're destined to lose (most comic book characters in here aren't done). If they waited until the end, most of the matches wouldn't have been made.

You're clearly biased because Weiss wasn't brutally murdered, why the clean death? According to them, it fit the theme of elegance and the weapons they use aren't the most brutal types. In addition, both characters in character aren't brutal in character, so a clean death is fitting. Also, they just wanted to recreate Mitsuru's Astral Finish.

Why include Persona break when it's just a game mechanic form 4 Arean and not the main series? Persona 4 Arena is technically canon (can someone confirm this?) and it's also in the anime and manga, so it's definitely canon through that.

How could Weiss see Artemesia, aren't Personas like Stands and can't be seen? While that's implied in Persona 2, it isn't true in 3, so it doesn't matter for the argument.

Is Jocelyn dead since Boomstick killed all of the interns? No, she's still alive. She's still in her closet doing research because Wiz and Boomstick don't want to.

They also talk about the Ruby vs Ragna DBX and how no one from the main Death Battle crew worked on that, so everyone calm down about it. Still no word about their opinion on Yang vs Tifa

@Sorvoe: Thanks for the summary, great work as always!

Soo...

1. I agree with them, and sometimes you don't even know when the characters' story will end or if if they will get new entries with time. Look at Goku, everybody thought Dragon Ball was over then Battle of the Gods happened. Not to mention several times the character with the ongoing story is strong enough as they are.

2. Honestly, that sounds iffy... in the past they have taken characters that flat out don't kill engage into brutal murders (Tai, who only resorted to lethal force against very dangerous and evil Digimon, having WarGreymon kill Red comes to mind) and non-lethal attacks and given them gory aftereffects for the death battle porpuses, such as Terry's Power Dunk blowing up Ken's head, and the ice shattering with Weiss disappearing (instead of bursting into a bloody mess) could have worked as not being too messy. Then again, this is just a minor nitpick in the bigger picture, in the end they did a fair fight instead of screwing Mitsuru over, so letting Weiss have it easy with her defeat is a minor thing (not to mention, RT probably would be the ones to tell them to do so).

3. Can't speak for this given my limited knowledge of the games, but sounds solid enough.

4. Yeah, I recall other members here also mentioned that Personas could be seen in different circunstances by non users.

5. Lol, are those in-DB characters like the Wiz and Boomstick personas?

6. *Scratches head* Well, it's true we can't hold it against Ben and Chad, apologies for that, but doesn't change the issues people have with it (Ragna losing isn't it, though). >_>

7. I think them avoiding Yang vs Tifa is for the best. The episode itself is pretty controversial despite it's popularity, and whenever something contradicts their previous research or worse they admit they made a mistake, many fans jump at their throats (it happened when they commented they made a mistake in 18 vs Cap. Marvel). If they talk positively of Yang vs Tifa the bias complaints will pop up, but if they say they believe something was off in that episode will also cause flames for similar issues and complaints on the research (especially with Tifa's strength output after Sephiroth vs Vergil). Kinda hypocritical coming from me, I know -_-

I mean, we try to find the most likely senario. If just having one win condition makes you win then like 90% of Diavolo's wins would be losses.

To be fair, they do have a point. Say you win a thousand matches all because you had mind hax. Then, you fight someone who won more matches and is faster, stronger, and more durable than you. He does have a point tbh.

Pretty sure what he's referring to is they don't focus as much on "this guy opens with thought based instant deletion in every single one of his fights in character" as opposed to "he wins if he does that, but what if he uses this power instead, or this one, or this one"

I'm more on the side of what the character's actually likely to do as opposed to possibilities but neither one is inherently better than the other

To tell ya guys the truth I generally find vs threads here a bit dull cause of that since it's generally the same thing "x solos y cause of whatever move or hax they got."

That's fine except for this episode since Weiss had no win condition

Well their job is to find out who would "win a Death Battle". In doing so, they "look for who can win the most matches overall, not just a couple times out of a thousand possibilities thanks to one good move".

That sounds good on paper at least. As they do not care stompy matches they could make their words quite easily - by making stompy matches where you need little research to know who would win. (I am calling you, Sora vs Pit, Crash vs Spyro, Optimus Prime vs Gundam and more.)

And they did say in one Death Battle Cast that they do not care for stompy matchups (and will not stop the work just because their research shows that the matchup is stompy) but they may try to avoid it (like for example no Ryu vs Goku).

Black Widow won against Widowmaker because she has judo-ed many people to death in the past (despite no MHS+ combat speed and only superhuman travel speed - against a lady with subsonic travel speed. And Nightwing won against Daredevil because NW can stun DD with ultrasonic Wingdings. And Lucy has only one winning condition against Carnage by jumping to afar then sending multiple vector nuclear arms to cook the hybrid without being hit once and die throughout the process.
