Pokemon Special SMUSUM Chapter 33 Summary

So Moon apparently got a PhD at the age of 6. Aren't PhDs supposed to take 8 years to complete?
To be fair, in anime and manga you have characters that are General Commander of armies, Astronauts, CEO of worldwide companies, cutting edge technology geniuses and accomplished artistic talents, sometimes all at once, and they still go to highschool. Age and the needed time has always been a background tidbit >_>

So, just for fun. If you could take a Pokemon that's poor competitve wise and buff it to make it more viable, who would you pick and what would you do? Let's try to use existing abilities and moves and not take the easy way and give it a Mega or increase it's base stats.

To give an example:

Crabominable

New Ability -> Technician (because Outboxing is a thing)

Stats (478 Total):

  • HP: 97 -> 95
  • ATK: 132 -> 132
  • DEF: 77 -> 100
  • SP.ATK: 62 -> 30
  • SP.DEF: 67 -> 91
  • SPD: 43 -> 30
New moves:

  • Fake Out
  • Mach Punch
  • Ice Shard
  • Bullet Punch
  • Aqua Jet
  • Hammer Arm

Why so much Priority moves? You would problaby use a Band Set, at all of these moves, Mach Punch and Ice Shard would be the most common because of STAB

TBH, even with that, he would be not that good, maybe good in his tier, but Scizor is way better than him and Scizor is UU

Crabominable would be better off with more speed. Ice/Fighting is a godlike offensive typing, but pretty useless if your opponent always gets an attack off before you.

Versatility i guess, my thoughts were that if it only had Mach Punch and Ice Shard it would be too predictable and easy to stop. The additional ones could help for different setups. Bullet Punch and Aqua Jet also more or less fit with the whole Boxing Yeti Krab design.

I don't get why Iron Fist only gives a 1.2x boost. Pretty much every other boosting abilities gives a greater boost for a less specific pool of moves.

Because Infernape would be even better with Iron Fist, but yeah, that should give a higher boost, maybe a 50% rounded down? Fire Punch would be stronger than Fire Blitz with that and ma boi Infernape could se more usage with Bolt Beam in the form of Punches

@Gyro: Hmm... you're right. I had forgotten how awful it is as a defensive typing (Ice especially). Even with solid bulk it's still a problem. And crabs aren't particularly fast afaik

Yeah, Iron Fist could be bumped to x1.5 like other boosting abilities that affect a specific subset of moves like Strong Jaw or Mega Launcher. Even more widespread moves like Sheer Force or Tough Claws have a x1.3 boost.

@Drite: Well the idea was to make the Yeti Crab Boxer more viable, but it's hard to do >_> As Gyro points, the typing really hurts here.

The moveset is also kinda meh. Technician is good for having strong STAB priority, but it means nothing when you have that typing, unfortunate

Offensively Ice/Fighting seems pretty good IMO and has great coverage, I think he would do well with a solid attack and technician on the offensive aspect. The issue is that even with this hypothetically boosted bulk he still would be easily dispatched due to the many weaknesses, unlike Scizor who has 8 resistances, 1 immunity and only 1 weakness

Still, fire isn't the most common offensive typing. At least, HP fire wouldn't be as common if Ferrothorn, Kartana and Mega/Scizor didn't exist

It is, but it all the other strong points really make up for the weakness to fire to consider Scizor a good Pokemon. It's not unstopabble by any means, but it's still great.

Ok, you guys want to know a bad mon that could be good? Pyroar, i will think in something but why the hell the guy has Moxie when he is Special Oriented?

Pyroar is NU for a reason.

Everything in NU has potential that is wasted or outclassed in higher tiers, including.... Mega Kangaskhan

PU has more unique Pokémon in that regard... Smeargle, Shuckle and Stoutland, for example.

Giovanni has... idk what his signature is, Rhyperior? The Nidos? They're pretty solid. Persian is fodder tho.

Archer has Houndoom, which is also solid.

Maxie and Archie have megas Camerupt and Sharpedo respectively, the former being decent and the latter being a very strong Pokemon in UU.

Cyrus has the best, having Weavile as his ace.

Ghetsis... we all know how scary that Hydreigon can be.

Guzma's Golisopod is solid, no clue who Lusamine's ace is.

Fused with nihilego, she has the horrifying ability of sending out Pokemon with slightly amped stats.

It's probably Persian. Can't be Kangaskhan since he doesn't have that in the rainbow rocket fight, and it's his lowest level in most of his other fights.

It's not Kanghaskhan, but the kangaroo is his highest in the first fight. In the anime it's obviously Persian (which isn't a bad Pokemon in G1), but in the games it's either Nidoqueen or Rhy...perior? I mean he normally has Rhydon, and Origins implies it's Rhydon, but Rhyperior is the superior form that he has in newer gens.

G1, Rhydon was part of the seven deadly staples (well, he and Golem were interchangable). Rhydon (and Golem) was the only reason Zapdos didn't rule the meta with an iron fist.

...instead that honor went to Tauros.
