DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (2024–2025) (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

if the game/story sucks though Secret Rings story was good imo).
Honestly Secret Rings is like Sonic Heroes to me in that it had EVERYTHING going for it to be goated, except the actual gameplay lol. Same with Black Knight, it's such a shame the storybook series had really cool concepts and writing but with super shoddy gameplay, would be nice if they got remade but with actual controls this time.

I know it's not a perfect solution, but I've been playing Black Knight on Dolphin with an Xbox controller and it is SO much better than a Wii remote and nunchuck.

Why SEGA thought that forced motion controls were a good idea continues to baffle me

I can kinda understand it for Secret Rings since it was early into the Wii's lifespan and every game tried cramming forced motion controls because it was the next big thing at the time (Albeit Sonic Team went further than most with the use of motion controls) but I don't get why they kept them for Black Knight years later.

Like.. id expect eggman's side to try to use bowser's stuff against him, not just with metal but with eggman where recognizing the dreamstones are precious gem like the warp topaz or the chaos emeralds and trying to capture them because of it.

Also in regards to Bowser vs Eggman how do y'all think they'd kill each other should they end up being the winner?
Tbh between canonical 1ups, resets and Dry Bowser it'll be kinda difficult to see a fitting way for Bowser to die imo.

Eggman will probably erase Bowser from existence and Bowser will likely do the same to Eggman (or turn Eggman into a block/egg then smash him).

Amphibia fans I hear whispers on the winds that The Core might be one of Majora's best MU's. Never watched the show but is there anyone who's familar with the show can break down what the cores deal is?
The Core is the overarching antagonist of Amphibia. It's a hivemind of smartest minds from across Amphibia's history. Ngl I don't see any connections except both trying to blow up the planet with the moon and I don't think the Core's personality or powers work off Majora's at all.

To be fair, it was the times. Motion controls were a very popular gimmick in those years, popularized by the success of the Wii. So everyone was trying to get into that bandwagon.

Excellent analogy.

Still kinda hilarious that the dev team even got split in two, to work on 06 and Secret Rings yet both dubious games ended up giving the Sonicverse high tier scaling and hax lol! (Though taking off my scaling cap off, I would've preferred the games being actually functional, stable and fun to play at the time rather than just having impressive feats and statements. Couldn't careless if you can blow up universes, if the game/story sucks though Secret Rings story was good imo).

I mean conceptually Sonic 06 is great but the execution is self explanatory. Between Project 06, the hate bandwagon/clout chasers (moslty) moving on to other games (usually "woke" stuff) and it being largely "ok" to be a Sonic on social media these days, Sonic 06 is seen is less of a negative light plus it helps for all it faults at least Sonic 06 wasn't filled with predatory microtransactions or locked major content behind paywalls on top of being a messy game.
Yeah, agreed. As Dust once said, it would be pretty based if being a well written character automatically made you strong and vice-versa. Ironically, this how I feel about the FFVII Remakes, they aren't bad games by any means, but oh boy I find them irritating, yet from a VS perspective they are a wet dream.

You would have gotten it either way given since the adventure games it was pretty clear they were aiming for epic, grandiose stories. The development fiasco only undermined the quality of the game.

I think also helps that Rise of Lyric is a newer punching bag (which, shocker, also had a troubled production), but afaik the more recent games have been well regarded overall (Forces was a bit of a slump, but Mania, Frontiers and Shadow Generations featuring Sonic from the Devil May Cry series, were all well liked).
