  • About the Death Vs. Kindred thing, I more so say that because I think Kindred is way more well written as an overall character. Death is a peak level villain and more intimidating than Kindred even if less powerful, but he doesn't really have much character to him. He's still just essentially the Grim Reaper of sorts, who came early and tormented a guy because he really hates him. He's awesome, but he doesn't have much more than being a bone-chilling badass, he has some more, just not much more.

Kindred...I mean where tf do I begin. I mean like, from their lore, to their voice lines. Kindred is such a well developed and fleshed out character with SO MANY quirks and qualities and memorable traits, BY FAR the most creative interpretation of Death as a manifested being that I've ever seen. And just beautiful. I mean I could literally talk about the depth, the DETAILS of the character for a half an hour, maybe more. There's so much crammed in. Did you ever notice how Lamb and Wolf wear EACH OTHER'S masks?

    Anyways.

    "Lamb, tell me a story.
There was once a pale (Lamb) man with dark (Wolf) hair who was very lonely.
    Why was it lonely?
All things must meet this man, so, they shunned him...
    Did he, chase them all?
He took an axe, and split himself in two. Right. Down. The middle.
So he would always have a friend?
So he would always have a friend..."

Like bro, no other representation I've death I've seen in fiction is comparing to that.

That second vid is prob one of my favorite YouTube videos.

I think what's really amazing about the Kindred is that both of them have personalities which contrast from how they look. I'm not the first person to ever say this at all, but I find it interesting how the soft spoken and elegant Lamb speaks with pure logic and seems to know all things while the Wolf is more wild and instinctive yet has this emotional and almost innocent side to him that feels emotion but can't understand it at the same time. And I think it was intentional choice on LoL's part because the Kindred clearly represent the two ways one can experience in the face of death: Either we understand that our time has come and allow death to take us gently, or we are consumed by our emotions and need to live and thus we flee from death before it inevitably and violently catches up to us.

Though if you're in the market for another amazing version of Death, might I suggest Death from the late Terry Pratchett's Discworld? Instances like these are examples of how we can take such a grim concept and make one of the most human and compassionate entities in our minds. One of my favorite novels from Discworld is Reaper Man due to this wonderful quote from Death at one point in the story.
