DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (2024–2025) (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Also, this preview confirmed a feeling I had about how Eggman vs Bowser was going to go. I had a feeling that the set up of the episode was that Eggman tried to conquer Bowser's empire for himself and Bowser and his army are defending against Eggman's onslaught.

Given that Eggman is significantly more evil than Bowser is, I'm betting that Bowser is going to be treated like the villainous protagonist of the battle.

Tinfoil truthers, isn't the one who uses their form first in the preview loses? And we just saw Bowser going into Fury Mode? Is this copium for a Eggman W?

Same set up as Bardock vs Onmi-Man? It's over for Eggman.

I mean Bardock went into his Great Ape form pretty early on into the fight, and we all know how it went in the end so maybe...?

Still, I don't think it matters in the case of Eggman vs Bowser since both of them are probably going to be utilizing a bunch of forms during the fight.

Omni-Man didn't have any transformations, tho.

Tangentially related, but the bird app owned by elon muskrat has shown me that Sonic '06 has a lot more diehard fans than I thought it did
I imagine it's for two reasons:

1. A lot of those diehard fans grew up with 06 as children, so they look at it more fondly due to childhood nostalgia.

And 2. If stuff like Project 06 have taught me anything? It's that 06 had a lot of admirable and genuinely fun ideas to them, it was just marred by absolutely dog shit execution.

more loyal army.
I don't even understand how this is an advantage, to be honest.

Metal Sonic is one of the only few robots in Eggman's army that rebelled against Eggman successfully (which was resolved when Eggman removed Metal's rebellious coding.) Other than that, all of Eggman's forces are completely loyal and efficient robots and AI. So I don't see why people focus on this part so much.

Honestly that one statement made by a dev the other day saying he'd like to remake the game had me thinking about what they'd do with it nowadays. The idea of Sonic 06 but they actually execute the good ideas it had (And maybe removing the not so good ones like the Elise romance trash) would be rad as hell, esspecially the final boss fight with Solaris. Sonic bosses have gotten much better with Frontiers and SXSG (Not really gameplay wise they've always been kinda ass in that regard but cinematically they're now peak).

Omni-Man didn't have any transformations, tho.
Well in regards to the transformation tinfoil hat theory are you just looking for recent examples or across the shows history?

I think it's because Bowsers minions basically worship him to the point of getting stat boosts and resistances due to how much they adore him and wish to aid him. Most clear cut example being, or course, the Bowser's Minions side story in the superstar saga remake.

Minion Spirit or smth idk.

Just in general I guess.

Sonic 06 was victim of horrorific production conditions where Sega kept screwing over the devs when the game was in progress, including unreasonable deadlines. I guess more people are aware that Sonic 06 could not be expected to run the full race if their own company sabotaged their car.

Its more because Bowser’s army loyalty is so strong, it actually provides a mindhax resistance.

I guess it depends on what you'd count as a transformation (Like if one of the Power Rangers entering their zords counts as such, or if Bowser turning giant in his fight with Ganon counts as one, if Mario using power up counts, etc...). But overall it's pretty even in regards to whether the one who transforms first loses or wins.

You've got stuff like Shadow transforming second when he fought Vegeta and still losing, Dracula transforming before Ganondorf did and still winning, Jin transforming first against Ryu and losing, Star Butterfly transforming first and still beating Steven, Ryuko transforming first and still losing to Shadow, etc... It's not even like there's a pattern where there's a certain amount of matches where the first to transform loses but then a certain amount where they win, which tbh makes me question how it became a semi-popular theory that you can tell who wins based on that.

I count transformation in terms of stuff that changes your form and stats. Stuff like Super Saiyan or Super Sonic, not Mario's powerups, but I do count the super-star as one.

I guess it’s more because, the idea of playing your hand too early is inherently a symptom of cockiness, and thus defeat.
Its not even early as people make it out, the only example of playing your best thing way earlier is jotaro stopping time when he only blocked and punched kenshiro once, only to time stop in mid air and punch again

People really think that if a character uses their best thing first after some time its auto loss, like what you want them to do? Also in Ryu vs Jin, Jin was still winning even after Ryu transformed later, Mu no Ken was a last moment move to turn the table around

Excellent analogy.

Still kinda hilarious that the dev team even got split in two, to work on 06 and Secret Rings yet both dubious games ended up giving the Sonicverse high tier scaling and hax lol! (Though taking off my scaling cap off, I would've preferred the games being actually functional, stable and fun to play at the time rather than just having impressive feats and statements. Couldn't careless if you can blow up universes, if the game/story sucks though Secret Rings story was good imo).

I mean conceptually Sonic 06 is great but the execution is self explanatory. Between Project 06, the hate bandwagon/clout chasers (moslty) moving on to other games (usually "woke" stuff) and it being largely "ok" to be a Sonic on social media these days, Sonic 06 is seen is less of a negative light plus it helps for all it faults at least Sonic 06 wasn't filled with predatory microtransactions or locked major content behind paywalls on top of being a messy game.
