One Piece Chapter 1043: "Let us die together" (Official Release)

Well, Bleach basically mostly has villain protagonists fighting against even worse villains. If their casual tolerance of Mayuri does not prove that, I don't know what does.

Also, Japan did put millions in rape-camps during WWII, and has been too proud to even apologise for it afterwards, so it definitely isn't as nice a culture overall as many want to believe.

Why I don't like Garp:

1. Has the nerve to get angry at Akainu for killing Ace (which don't get me wrong was horrible), never mind that the ENTIRE POINT of Marineford was for the Marines to execute Ace. Like, would he have killed those 2 guys if they'd managed to behead Ace?

You don't get to prevent Ace from being rescued for most of the Battle and THEN decide you're mad at his killers.

2. He doesn't want to be an admiral since he'd have to serve the Celestial Dragons, yet he never does anything to limit the other awful shit the Dragons do that he could prevent, unlike Smoker who tries his hardest.

3. Even by OP standards his abuse is really stretching it.

4. Somehow thought that terrorizing and beating his grandsons would make them want to join the Marines and not get AS FAR AWAY FROM HIM as possible.

5. Tried killing the Straw Hats with that massive flail for basically the lolz

6. Treated Coby better than he did his own grandsons! I mean I love Coby and his character growth (and he is one of the 2 people I consider shipping with Reiju) but STILL!

7. We never see him actually beat up evil pirates in the present story, just him lying around and messing with Sengoku.

He's like all the issues I had with Tashigi but WORSE, because at least Tashigi can put her Straw Hat hatred and ego aside when the lives of children are on the line!

Also Tashigi is about as threatening to the Straw Hats as a kitten, where as I said above Garp once nearly killed them all with that MASSIVE iron ball for the lolz.

Dadan was their real mother, and Garp was barely their grandfather and was never there when they needed him.
Sorry i'm late
1.Now I'm trying to imagine mad Garp trying to pulverize the executors while Sengoku interrupts the transmission/cuts the commercials & saves those 2 from Garp at the last moment
2.We don't know that for sure. He might've tried that in the past, failed & given up on trying to do that. We don't know his full history. You checked his picture as a child from Oda? He looks more like a pirate than a marine
3/4.True. Makes me wonder how his childhood was if he thought that kind of thing was norm. At least 1 good thing came from Garp terrorizing them: Ace & Luffy became monsters in H2H fighting.
5.I doubt he ever intented to kill/capture them. He didn't get irritated when they escaped & Aokiji was taking a nap noncholantly. Throwing cannonballs & a giant iron ball, come on they've dealt with worse by that point of the story.
6.I'm betting marine guidelines don't allow him to be as harsh on recruts or Garp got softer overtime:unsure:?
7.Spitting facts rn
...Nah. Not buying it. You're probably right but to me it seems like a poor attempt at redeeming Garp for keeping Marco from saving Ace.
Yeah, neither Sengoku nor any other Marine orderred him to do that. Heck even Tsuru was understanding of his conflicting feelings between work & family. Marco got punched by him so hard that he kept his head injury even after Marineford during Whitebeard's furneral.

No comment on politics, just lack knowledge/interest on that

One Piece's politics can be interpreted as so many things, when we talk about Luffy in particular.

I've seen people interpreting Luffy as an Anarchocapitalist Libertarian, or as a Socialist
(for real, even Communist Luffy popped up once)
While Anarchocapitalist makes 0 sense to Luffy, he indeed seems some short of Libertarian, as Ant explained

They mainly belive it due what they see in their Weeb shows lol, even tho it is just fantasy

Hentai is an exception rather than the norm though, if that is what you refer to.

I mean to normal stuff from anime, it makes them think that japan is 100% what they see in their Umaru-like animes, even tho like all countries, it has some past with dark stuff there

The opposition cor a government or any sort of power, and the overall "respect" for monetary value might lead one to believe Luffy is Anarchocapitalist.
Well, that's an exagerated claim XD, also, is Luffy really against any sort of power? We know that he is against the World Government there, because they are literally a bunch of evil people that treats others as mere objects, such as this dude:

And it starts to make far less sense if we take the NAP explained by Rothbard, Luffy definitely violates that lol

Just a note that we should make an effort to keep this conversation as calm and respectful as possible, given that we are somewhat discussing politics here.

Please elaborate/explain further.
Oh, just going further into why Luffy cannot be rated as ''Anarchocapitalism'', one of the things that Murray Rothbard (An Anarchocapitalism author) explained is the NAP, the Non Aggression Principle, in very simple words, it's a principle that is against all kinds of ''violations'' against the ''private property'', includind someone body, by that logic, starting violence against someone violates the NAP, and Luffy have no problems to starts fights or steal some things, which is why he cannot be rated as Anarchocapitalism, but i still do think that he qualifies as libertarian due his desire and love for freedom and stuff like that.

well, my explanation regarding NAP was very simple because it has a whole book regarding it called The Ethics of Liberty

Wait but Luffy doesn't "respect" money ... He doesn't chase profit - which is the vital difference, I think
He does respect money. He uses money, and has no problem in doing so. Monetary value is a concept Luffy is mostly okay with.

As an Ancap myself, I don't think Luffy is one, I just said what might lead people to think that lol

Yeah, Luffy violates NAP quite regularly, as early as episode 1. (When he takes food from Alvida)

I think that is an extremely low bar to set for someone being an ancap. Pretty much everyone apart from the most extreme communist ideologues accept the basic concept of money, and while Luffy does occasionally use money, he also steals what he wants/needs without the slightest hesitation i.e. he doesn't have the greatest of respect for private property. Most importantly, Luffy is not motivated by profit

It is, people are quite stoopid sometimes.

Nami isn't THAT diehard a capitalist. She isn't remotely a Nabiki Tendo-style narcissistic and manipulative swindler or an extremely selfish social-Darwinist. She actually genuinely cares about and puts herself on the line for others, and is working hard to be an accomplished meteorologist and cartographer. She isn't remotely defined by greed alone.

That Nami thing was honestly a joke...

Don't get me wrong, she's one of my favorite characters, and she's my 4th favorite female character (behind Reiju, Robin, and Shyarly).

I read somewhere that Oda is married to Nami's voice actress. Is this correct?

Aha. My bad then.

So did he meet her on an anime convention then?

Okay. Thanks for the information.
