Gonna be fair, the fact that Rey vs Korra had "they are Mary Sues from controversial sequel series" was kinda unironically said to be a connection and the fact that people are happy to see either one die is bit worrying.

Not much to worry for Mary Sue vs Mary Sue - we have SJW vs SJW just in Season 8.
More importantly, Korra vs Rey have actual close connections other than "meh Mary Sue vs Mary Sue". And that Death Battle is about a character dying to another character what to worry about a character killing another character? This is Death Battle unless the show changes its name.
