DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (2024–2025) (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Why is everyone saying Ghost Rider stomps Spawn? I thought this fight was close and it came down to their powers and abilities.
I think a lot of it comes from the fact that Ghost Rider whoops Mephisto, who when fighting Galactus threatened the entire Marvel Multiverse as a byproduct. It was brought up as a throwaway line back during GR vs Lobo, but now that we've had Galactus in a proper fight for even more scaling I don't believe that Image Comics has a cosmology anywhere close to that.

I am not angry, but a bit disappointed. I wanted some fakeouts like Asura climbing from Naraka mid fight, or QTEs shown and overpowered. I guess there was so much more they could have used but they didn’t. Also I see now what DArtemis meant when he said Asura was out of character.

That Alternate Ending was cool though.

Would've been nice to see

Think it was something the writing insisted on?

Tbf how many casuals even know persona or played them in life, jojo was also among the most popular characters after the anime of part 5 appeared
At least in my experiences interacting with the Megami Tensei fandom and the gaming community in general, Persona (or at least Persona 5) is actually quite popular and well-known in the public conscious, especially since the release of Royal and 3 Reload. I've seen public figures in the community who otherwise have no interest in either Persona or the 'JRPG' genre as a whole express their interest in Persona 5 (and more recently, Metaphor.)

That being said, the people who would be most likely to watch a Death Battle video with a Persona and JJBA character would be more dedicated fans of either or both series, and the last time both series peaked in their number of "dedicated fans" was either in 2019, around the time the Part 5 adaptation was finishing up and Persona 5 was only two years old, or in 2020, when Persona 5 Royal just released and the Part 5 adaptation was only about a year old.

I scoured through the DB subreddit and there's a large amount of people that expressed their frustration with "chain scaling" and how DB "prioritizes" that over direct feats. A handful bring up comic book related examples

Most complaints boil down to
Death Battle thinks 'Character A who scales to character B who is relative to character C who shouldn't be too much weaker than character D who performs some feat' is better than 'Character A performs this feat'

I scoured through the DB subreddit
I mean if my 'better than', they mean 'the feat for the first example is greater than the feat for the second', then yes. The implication here is that since Kratos's scaling chains have a lot of people in it, Kratos should magically be weaker than Asura, which is very emblematic of the state of this battle's discourse

Kratos 'never appearing to be on the backfoot' seems to have a funny interpretation of what backfoot means. He's caught off guard what feels like six different times in the battle and goes into his berserker rage shout at least twice?

Ironically it seems like Dante vs Kratos would've been more interesting in terms of animation potential and debate despite having weaker connections.

Though I personally like this MU more so lol
Yeah sums up my thoughts tbh. Plus Dante already has a Bayonetta as an MU which I feel is more thematic and interesting than Dante Vs Kratos so eh.

He never felt threaten nor look like he was out threw a ringer he barely tried at all in the fight
The best Asura could get outta him at the end at his peak was a smirk

When ya about no diff ya opponent via lore scaling
Kratos_Locks_In.gif
plz get a kamen rider ep so they have to deal with it lore scaling( and super sentai) (even tho everyone fights in the city and react that CG budget)

Have they said anything about going forward if they'll give alternative endings to every ep? Because if not...
The alt ending felt like a pity crumb
then this will just come across as very pity and biased. why do certain characters get special treatment and others don't?

Kratos vs Asura was....okay to me.

Same gripes with it as everyone else (Asura transforming too fast, Kratos showing little to no damage in the fight, etc).

Find it weird people are upset about the 'lore' scaling for VG characters when this was a thing since Chosen Undead vs Dragonborn.

Nice to see Ghost Rider and Spawn have another DB. That's about it really.
