DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (2024–2025) (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

I know what causes me more negativity than unjustified expectations from the fight.

There are a whole bunch of bloggers on YouTube who are now starting to react to this episode and posting their reactions to the fight, attaching their stupid faces with idiotically open mouths to the previews.

They just incredibly make surprised faces, say "wow, wow" and try to make money on the hype from the episode.
The casual audience is just like that. Some really disagree with DB, but most just take what they said.

Their bias prevents them from seeing that both of these characters have similar antifeats and saying that someone who kills gods for a living is building level becomes more reasonable to them.
Characters should be scaled by what's consistent in the in-game lore rather than gameplay elements. Otherwise, every single game character is 9-C by dying to a slightly big fall.

I do agree with that.

Actually, now that I think about it, why is specifically Kratos being this strong really controversial? Sure, YouTube Shorts and TikTok powerscalers "wanking" him to outerversal help with that, but Kratos being this strong has been controversial for years and years (the same thing applies to the Devil May Cry cast, but maybe not as badly).

I always thought Kratos, Dante, Bayonetta and the such, all those hack n' slash heroes, with spectacular battles and portrayed as this super strong badasses, were hyped and championed as being as strong as possible, so I'm a bit surprised as well. Though I do recall people on this site commenting how they get quite a lot of backlash over the stats of DMC, GoW and all, meaning that yeah, it was always divisive.

When ya about no diff ya opponent via lore scaling

Yeah, they're the video game characters that feel the most powerful, but for whatever reason, people were always skeptical of their stats.

Granted, back then, video game characters' stats were always looked at with a lot of skepticism; as a Final Fantasy fan (especially a Final Fantasy VII fan), you are probably very well aware of that. It's just that, while opinions shifted for most other series, the skeptism around Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, God of War, and Doom's stats never went away (well, Bayonetta's stats have been pretty well established with Bayonetta 3, so maybe not that series). Though, for whatever reason, God of War seems to get the most pushback. Maybe because it's the most popular?

That is true, and it was true even on this site. The days of the Devil May Cry universal upgrades will live in infamy (no joke, they went on for seven threads before they were concluded, and each thread was 500 posts long).

I'm really sorry about what's going on with DMC right now. Not only was important content cut from the POC, but the fans just forgot about the verse, even though I've seen at least 2 sandboxes on tier 1.

Honestly. I found the animation fine, it was just the music that didn’t match. Also didn’t DA animate 9 minutes, the strange animation to some could have just been it being cut down for runtime

Cuz the staff at the time was notoriously known as a lowballer whom actually didnt knew the series at all and tried to block any attempts at upgrading

I don't really know what's going on with them either.

(Granted, I was talking about the original upgrade threads from 5-6 years ago).

This is kind of random, but I just found out that ComicVine has banned all God of War versus threads unless they are in-verse battles (they've also banned Dragon Ball vs Marvel or DC). I don't know why they did, but that's hilarious to me.

Well I could be wrong, but, from what I've seen, given we're a VS site rather than a regular site for fandoms, save extremely popular ones, verses draw attention and activity as long as they keep momentum and the ball rolling with upgrades and are powerful or keep getting powerful. If that comes to and end and their position is toppled or the ball is stopped, people will just walk away. It happened to Zelda before DMC, when Universal and composite Link was a thing there was no shortage of activity, but when composites were banned and the downgrades came in the activity became much more modest. On the other hand, stuff that's not as mainstream (at least over here) like Isekais and Chinese Novels which feature incredibly busted characters have no shortage of activity and keep getting new verse and page additions very quickly. Mario and Sonic is another example and so on.

Like the loser of the animation is portrayed as the "villain" or antagonist of the fight? I mean I guess for a handful of battles.

Sonic was a dick in both his battles, Ryuko pissed off Shadow for no reason, Galaxia started the fight by blowing Beerus' Planet up along with his food, Eggman sabotaged Bowser's Wedding, Vegeta attacking Thor even though the hammer wasn't intentionally meant to hit him, Trunks attacking Silver for time traveling, Hulk randomly deciding to break everything in the Universe against Broly, Rick attacking The Doctor for dumb reasons, Phoenix provoking Raven etc ?
Popeye hitting Saitama because he didn't like the spinach, Steven and Star fighting over a sand castle (a ******* sand castle)

Why is everyone saying Ghost Rider stomps Spawn? I thought this fight was close and it came down to their powers and abilities.
