DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (2024–2025) (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

That happened? That's a bloody water droplet in a literal ocean of cash
Yeah, reddit in particular had quite a few fanboys freaking out over people cancelling their donations. And I mean like actual freakouts and insults being hurled. The funniest part was that some of them admitted to not having donated. So, people were ******** themselves in rage over what other people were doing with their money as if they were obligated to give DB their cash, while also not donating themselves. Any sort of criticism of the decision to include aang vs the traveler quickly became "you just want the KS to die, it's ok that it slowed down they all do!" Don't point out that the donations surged again once they replaced it.

I've noticed something, death battle and fans of death battle put more time and energy complaining about criticism and debunks than actually working towards remedying the underlying issues causing them. You don't like how people are pointing out the janky moments in the animations? Instead of complaining about people pointing out the jank, work towards not having the jank.

Of course, there will always be someone who disagrees with an outcome, nothing will change that no matter the matchup or verdict. But if you don't like people breaking down why the analysis for omniman vs bardock was wrong, why are you reposting their videos to bitch about them existing. If you think they're wrong, actually work to debunk their logic and reasoning. All reposting the video with the caption "Why is blud yapping, it's peak! 💀"or whatever the zoomers on twitter are saying at the moment tells me is that you cannot actually find their reasoning wrong so you're mocking it to try to make it look bad. When even your own hugbox discord think's your wrong then something should be telling you that you may have ****** up.

When literally the only people on your side are the twitter accounts and youtubers who review death battle, and even then, most of them are saying "the research doesn't matter" then you've ****** up.

I don't even care about them getting it wrong, it's this complete dismissiveness towards a fanbase who are willing to directly give them money to save their show.
I expressed this exact same sentiment and Speedy’s bitchass temp banned me. I am still mad about that.

Really hope DB won't touch on dragon ball mu for a long ass while
Use other franchises screw there research up lol

I know the discord is a hugbox to the point that “what will the money be used for exactly” is by and large considered a doom post so I’m not shocked, but what did you say exactly?
I suggested that now that they’re independent they could have the research team show their homework in a blog or google doc and I expressed dissatisfaction with me having paid $150 for subpar research. And Speedy and Hyperstarman promptly threw a fit and kicked me for 1 week.

explain that you've donated
Get banned anyways
Did they actually cite a rule or did they just hammer you?

Idk about all that, but they ONLY GAVE MY BOY ACCESS TO CHARIZARD. Just Charizard. Not Jolteon, Snorlax, Lapras, Gengar, Victreebel, Hitmonlee, Kabutops, Scyther, Dodrio, Persian, Fearow, Arbok, Rapidash, Tauros, the Bird Trio, or, idk... MEWTWO?!

It was a while ago, so they'd maybe do better now.
Funnily enough, it might not be as big of a stomp nowadays, due to Red being able to scale to US/UM protagonists, who fought Rainbow Rocket, who have either Palkia or Dialga. (Though, it being sent out by Poke Ball indicates it being weakened, & the fact a ball would do so is the whole reason Cyrus sought out The Red Chain. AFAIK, other than the Legendary being proof the plan succeeded, we have no indication the Red Chain was used.)

Superman is about to be stomped on another crossover
Poor Superman.
Hopefully he can do a bit like DB Doctor Who & give Morty a chance to experience a better role model.

I said this a couple pages, but I will paraphrase what I said: Bowser is undeniably a very intelligent and cunning character, but he comes off as being dumb because Bowser's tactics involve him getting up close and using his physical capabilities compared to other villains like Eggman.

Of course Bowser can be and has demonstrated smart cunning, he's more of a blunt and straightforward type thinker then thinking multiple steps ahead of his enemies.
I don't disbelieve you, but what are some of those feats of him doing as such?

Yes that shit happened during the Aang vs Traveler announcement
Some Peeps were acting as if folks shouldn't have better things to do then donate money to a vs show
I genuinely, truly, have no idea what the hell they were thinking making that matchup be one of the stretch goals, let alone one of the highest. The Kickstarter had a bunch of back to back bangers and then out of nowhere they drop a matchup where one character is literal who tier to the average person. I bet you that the episode itself is gonna get hard carried by Aang when it comes to views because I doubt that most regular Genshin fans give a shit about Death Battle while most regular Death Battle fans don't give a shit about Genshin. All the while the casual viewer has no idea who the hell Aang is even fighting.

They had no idea Kickstarter would blow up so they innocently thought "ehh you know what someone in the DB Team wants this MU, guess we could put that". They didnt think about it too hard or that it wouldnt matter, when in fact it did.

Honestly Aang vs Aether is a blessing because I dont have to care about who wins or dies lmao

Unless you give Red Arceus scaling, Tai still beats him easily.
Yeah, I said "might not be as big of a stomp nowadays".

Although, I'm surprised how big of a tiering gap we have between Arceus & The CT, even if I suppose it makes sense.

I guess Akari/Rei has a better chance against Tai.

Also, if by "easily" you mean "needs WarGreymon" to get past CT scaling. (At least, with the ratings currently on the profiles.)

Tier: High 8-C | 6-C | At least High 6-C | At least High 6-C | At least 5-B, 1-C via Power of God | 1-C

Key:
Agumon | Greymon | SkullGreymon | MetalGreymon | WarGreymon | Adventure 02 and TRI
Tier: 9-B. 2-B, likely 2-A with preparation | High 7-C | At least 7-A | At least 7-A | 2-B, likely 2-A

Key:
By Himself | Pokémon Team (Celestic Town) | Pokémon Team (Team Galactic HQ) | Pokémon Team (Distortion World) | Pokémon Team (Gen 7)

Tier: Low 1-C | 1-A

Key:
Avatars | True Form (The Heart/Original Spirit)

Also, your "Unless" conditional, I presume, only refers to how easily the Agumon Tai has wins; The only Arceus a Pokemon trainer can get is an Avatar in Pokemon: Legends Arceus, IIRC.
So if we're going by our ratings, unless True Form Arceus got involved on behalf of its Low 1-C Avatar, 1-C WarGreymon (But not its lower forms.) still wins, anyway, yeah.

Though any member of the Creation Trio (Palkia, Dialga, Giratina.) or anyone who scales to US/UM protagonists can beat WarGreymon that lacks the Power of God or is pre-02/Tri.
By our standards, anyway.

In theory, it might get involved because of DB's "The fight doesn't end until all combatants have used their strongest forms" rules, so shrug.

But yeah, unless Akari/Rei gets access to an Arceus form they never have access to (The True Form.), they aren't a match either.

Also, Akari/Rei wouldn't be as good a thematic match for Tai, anyway.
Both Red & Tai often promote over-promoted mons like Charizard/Pikachu & the whole Agumon line.

Akari/Rei is a time traveler & the one who canonically has to & does catch an entire regional dex to make the first Pokedex.
Are there any Digimon characters who did something like that?

I don't disbelieve you, but what are some of those feats of him doing as such?
I think his best feat is from Mario and Luigi: Dream Team, where he acts like a subordinate to Antasma and is seemingly going to get betrayed by the latter. But then Bowser double crosses Antasma himself, learning his mistakes from the previous games, and takes the Dream Stone for himself to become immensely powerful.

I suggested that now that they’re independent they could have the research team show their homework in a blog or google doc and I expressed dissatisfaction with me having paid $150 for subpar research. And Speedy and Hyperstarman promptly threw a fit and kicked me for 1 week.
You know, I've been wanting to talk about something lately and this comment is a perfect opportunity to relay some frustrations I have with Death Battle.

I think what people fail to understand about Death Battle is that regardless of what they say or how people try to defend Death Battle's wonky af research, Death Battle is a business that earns legitimate money off of researching and determining which fictional characters win in a battle. So, from that perspective, is it not reasonable to expect a service that is trying to earn money to do their business in a professional, logical, and understanding manner?

Especially when Death Battle had to be saved by people donating to them through Kickstarter, I think it should be even more of a priority to ensure that the research they do is top notch and satisfies the ones who donated their money so they can remain in business and continue their passions.

Tier: Low 1-C | 1-A
Arceus really gonna get put into Joker's collection lmfao

Arceus really gonna get put into Joker's collection lmfao
Lol. & it probably won't even be the strongest thing there, knowing SMT scaling.

Though, I'd say or prefer it should be the collection of The Demi-Fiend or something, since as I've said before, Persona users just copy powers, abilities & skills & then parade around having a mask of that character.
SMT characters like the Demifiend will actually collect & bring to their side those they gain.
You can also get an Arceus in HG/SS and D/P
IIRC, the Azure Flute event is at best, supporting evidence, due to not being "canon" due to not being officially released.

I don't recall if the HG/SS has the same case for it. & even then, we'd need to affirm that it's The True Form/The Heart/Original Spirit. Otherwise, it's not a 1-A Arceus, it's just a Low 1-C Avatar.

Really, if any SMT protagonist got Arceus, perhaps it'd probably be the one from Dx2, since they're the one who gets Sonic the Hedgehog, Guts, Ramiel/The 6th Angel, Madoka Kaname, Ainz, Dante, Bayonetta, Meliodas, Tachikoma, & a few others from those series....

Though IDK if Dx2 scales as high. Is it Devil Summoner? Does that affect cosmology?

Imagine someone coming at you with a Tachikoma (A military spider tank with AI good enough for self-identity & philosophy.), a The 6th Angel, Ramiel (giant, screaming piece of 4th dimensional geometry.) Walpurgisnacht (A floating, upside down witch of calamity missing the upper half of its head & with cogs for a lower body.), & Ainz the spooky, scary skeleton man.

Oh, & the Dx2 protagonist can bring a 5th demon by borrowing a Friend's featured Demon, once per friend each day.

So Sonic could roll up in that brigade, too.

That's the kind of lunatic crossover party assembler that I'd like seeing Arceus with more than Joker's.
(But there might be other Megaten characters who could do similarly crazy groups.)

The most memorable one is obviously Demi-fiend rocking up to the party with Dante, though Dx2 has Dante AND Bayonetta

Though Devil Survivor 2 just has Izaya, Shizuo, and Celty from Durarara

Can't think of any other collab on the SMT side besides that one game that just turns a bunch of Fire Emblem characters into Not-Personas

Maybe if this was like, Green Lantern: TAS or Green Lantern from Young Justice, this'd be fairer?

But the comics stomped, & the Justice League's GL.... https://vsbattles.fandom.com/wiki/John_Stewart_(DCAU)

Tier: 9-A | Low 7-B

....Well, he'd lose to Mark.

He's in the tier for a good fight against a 1st stage Pokemon when he has his ring, though!

That GL could take on Season 1 TV series Mark, at least. Rage Power making Mark go from 7-A to able to "stagger" a low 7-B, though, means that....

Which Gundam is that?
That is the Wing Gundam, from the anime Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. It was the first Gundam on American television, part of the 90's anime toonami craze alongside Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon. This is how I got introduced to Gundam.

I have no idea who wins, Gundam is a horribly under-researched verse.

I'm skipping the hell out of this episode lol

Idk they thought well beloved animated MC from Popular franchise+ Popular Gacha Slop= 💰 but issues is Aang has other popular mu and even ignoring that Aang ain't exactly up there in characters that needed a comeback in comparison to others
Ya have to bank on Aang carrying Hard for the episode especially if he loses

The **** is Omni-Man going to do againt GL Time-Traveling?
Well, he'd have to be in Omni-Man's home universe, & also trying to time travel kill a Viltrumite is "fun" because they age slower the more they age.

So it'd be tricky to find when Nolan was a baby.

Plus, he could easily be on different planets far away from one another at different times, & with little difference in how strong or experienced he is during each of those.

"Crud, this Nolan still can beat me... and this one... and this one... and this one."

Of course, that's assuming it's an Omni-Man with a tiering advantage, which, while possible based on movies & animated media....

It is very much not so against Comic Books Green Lantern, obviously.

The real question should be like, "The **** is Omni-Man going to do when he breaks his hand on Hal's face?" or something.
