DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (2024–2025) (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Ive seen some Sonic 3 spoilers and while Ill keep it vague for now I will say that certain agenda is going to rise.

The more you know it the worse it gets, really. By this point is common knowledge the completely unreasonable schedules mangakas have to subject themselves, makes the interviews from Togashi where he explained he slept like 2 hours a day, and the other where Kentaro Miura mentioned going out and feeling the sun for the first time in weeks all the harsher.

The blogger sums up my issues very well

"The issue I have with Sportacus VS Yujiro is that it kinda kneecaps both characters. Sportacus isn’t exactly known for being a direct hand-to-hand combatant, so forcing him into that role would go against his usual characterization. His signature gadgets and vehicles would likely take a backseat if he was sent against someone like Yujiro, who near-exclusively fights with bare handed martial arts.

On the flip side, Baki is a very violent, very mature series – with how they’d probably want to tone down the level of brutality for an episode featuring a literal Nick Jr. character, we’d inevitably get a watered down, goo goo gaa gaa, baby’s first Yujiro. And if you’re gonna leave Yujiro’s balls on the cutting room floor (90% of the guy’s body mass) you might as well leave the rest of him there too.

That’s the main issue with that fight to me. You either have to write the match like a lame Dorkly / Flashgitz / Robot Chicken sketch and shove in violence to properly represent Yujiro at the expense of Sportacus’ character, or you have to go for a bloodless, sanitized, thoroughly un-Baki episode that totally wastes Yujiro’s potential. I get that the tonal clash is kinda the whole joke, but, I don’t know. I’m as of yet unconvinced that there’s a happy medium you can reach."

The MU also reeks of "muh funny" in the worse way possible
Edgy badass anime dude getting rekt by lol wacky character is the most unfunny obsession in the community

Also while I'm not a fan of it at least Homelander matches Baki Tone and such

Sportacus is the akin to Sora vs LeBron and Bakugou vs Squidward where it was funny for few days but taking it seriously for a DB just loses its luster

To add onto this, it’d be funny if was SpongeBob versus super friends Aquaman which is a clear stomp type of DB. But from what I’ve seen from Sportacus it’s actually really debatable if not leaning towards a Yujiro W.

Stupid episode don’t do it DB.

What if Yujiro treats Sportacus the same way he treats Muhammad Ali? Might be a good bit.
 


now there's a thought... what transitions would we give the characters of our most wanted MUs, if this were a season where it still existed?

I had a mockup for Xeno JRPG MUs a while back, but I'd also done a mass clearout of some of the files on my hard drive, that seemingly among them - and I can't retrieve it off twitter as my Xeno scaling acc is disabled.

Might start fresh, idk.

EDIT: made the idea a fun and games thread
