DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (2024–2025) (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Now that the novelty has worn off, I can pick apart some reasonings and not kill the vibe.

Here's the main things they got wrong in terms of HAX going by this site (I'm ignoring AP):
The rest I think aren't important enough to mention. Gave Bowser the respect he deserved after the Ganon L, but I found Eggman lacking in representation. If Metal didn't have a go at it, Eggman would have looked absolutely washed.
They forgot that the Phantom Ruby's "illusions" collide just fine with better "real reality warping" in Egg Reverie Zone. They REALLY overestimated the potency & function of the Wonder Flower. The Phantom Ruby also has a sort of failsafe for when it interacts with reality warping, rips your power source out & creates a rift in space-time like it did with Phantom King.

Franchises with stuff like a super sonic tend to avoid this better, sense only base forms absorb the anti feats
Well, that's the good thing with super forms, they are actually protrayed as super. Though stuff does slip here and there ocassionally.
I'm from the future, and I can confirm this be legit. 😈
But nah fr, decided to take some inspiration from the board of wizdom returning an used it for guaranteed future MU's to create prediction for what they'll do and based on community versus setting.
Red is Shigaraki and Mahito da purple.

It legits look great, good job! And yes I'm biased, despite only watching only season's 1 and 2 of MHE I'm still pissed at Mahito for the whole fiasco with Junpei, and especially about Nanami and Nobara.

The salt of the Sonic fans on this site is delicious, they deserved to get humbled, nobody actually believes in garbage like 7D, 6D or even just 5D Game Sonic, and I love how Bowser is the first character in Death Battle that actually overpowers and defeats a Sonic character Super Form instead of just outlasting it and finish them off once they are in base. Also lol at the person believing that the Jade Wisp is comparable to Boos, almost all wisps are featless fodders with barely any haxes
He didn't overpower a super form, Kamek swapped the emeralds to Sage (which can be resisted since the emeralds are sentient & appear to help who they want to).

I think due to the match being seen as more competitive in the discord due to there being actual Mario supporters, the episode will age better over there as there will be much more push back and debate, whereas I see the mask going off over here over time due to Mario supporters being wiped out by that meteor or something

New VSBW lore, Mario supporters went extinct because of a meteor strike and now we can only find cave paintings as proof they were ever here.
I love Mario...I just...have literally never played any of his RPGs & very few of his party games, so I only have surface level knowledge of scaling & haxes.

Where's The real cal howard when you need him? I remember him being one of THE Mario guys on here back in the day.

All I know about Mario hax tbh was my inside guy in the death battle discord telling me there was a huge discussion on things like the pure hearts and wonder flower being way stronger than they get credit for before the episode.

I know jack shit about the power stars and shit, and I've been told not to trust this site for Mario hax, so I have no good source for Mario that isn't just being trickle fed shit from my informants.

The G1 blog was a good start tho

Which doesn’t even make sense cause he’s the ultimate life form and shouldnt get infected due to that lol. Should have said shadow was offworld
What's so werid about nano bots working on someone immune to sickness? It's factually not a virus or if it is it is fundamentally different from all others that exist.

Honestly, my main worry is Nintendo taking down the fight they took down this video not too long ago so it's not out of the realm of possibility. (This is a re-upload)

Random question: I've heard Shadow acts more Vegeta-ish in the comics due to Sega's instructions (angrier, more antisocial, etc). Is that true? I mean, "Edgy" memes aside, I only know him from Sonic Adventure 2, and while he had his edge and all, the game made it clear he had the heart in the right place and his attitude came simply as standoffish than outright abrassive.

They do have plans for him in future games I'm sure

His personality is very much Mewtwo like, an INTJ if you will. He can be a little standoffish, but he's not like abrasive perse yeah.

Yup it's very true unfortunately he's brash, arrogant and short tempered which lead him to getting infected by the metal virus, not caring about the wellbeing of his teammates, was gonna let innocent people die in an avalanche and more.

In recent issues he has mellowed out a little more and Team Dark actually function as a team now but you can tell Shadow is more of a "special" occasion hype character rather than one of the main reoccurring characters in IDW due to all the trouble the writers have to go through to include him in their stories (Shadow legit goes between several to a dozen issues between his major roles in the stories post the Neo Metal Sonic arc unlike let's say Tails, Amy or IDW OCs who consistently appear every couple to a few issues).

The general consensus is Archie Shadow (post-reboot) is best written version of Shadow post Sonic 06/pre Shadow Gens.

"Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Judging"? I was asking if you were referring to this or I was mistaken.
Yeah, Shadow fits into that category.

Driven by purpose towards a particular vision. Carrying their actions out with cold, calculated efficiency. Secretly being very motivated by strong personal feelings and values that they keep hidden.

The platypus working with eggman thought it had a vaccine implying that a vaccine was possible. I don’t think I need to explain how vaccines work to say why it shouldn’t work on shadow

Starline didn't truly understand the design of the metal virus at that point and was just working on the terminology the doctor was using. Just the general idea making himself immune would be important.

The battle pretty much sums up why in some Sonic fan circles Forces is even more infamous than Sonic 06 or Boom Rise of Lyric.

*Infinite was sent to the frontlines with no backup from Metal, Sage or anyone else thus was clearly seen as expendable (After the first major cutscene of Forces with Infinite jumping Sonic with Phantom clones, he never uses that strategy again against Sonic nor the Rookie)
*He received a crushing defeat in a very embarrassing way despite his boasts and actually having great power (In Forces he got beaten by base Sonic, who spent six months locked up and a Rookie member of the resistance, who Infinite previously spared).
*The Phantom Ruby got crushed by Bowser after Kamek swiped it from Metal Sonic and it's never brought up again (Phantom Ruby went from Maina to Forces back to Maina and then just disappeared).

He is the Infinite potential guy, stated to be the strongest Sonic villain to date yet was simply just too weak to be relevant in the grand scheme of things (keep in mind he never actually used the REAL Phantom Ruby just a copy).

Infifnte needs an epic return in a future sonic game the fact he's absent in the sonic comics right now leaves me suspicious.
Course correction, after the heavily mixed (which later became negative) reception of Forces the IDW writers were specifically instructured to keep the Force's references to a premium. Not just Infinite but the Rookie and even the Phantom Ruby weren't allowed to be mentioned by name let alone shown (at the time) and eventually IDW branched out to become it's own thing (before it was made canon to the games).

Apparently Infinite is trapped in the Phantom Ruby in Solaris knows where but Sega aren't afraid of showing him in other media (He is a playable character in Sonic Forces Speed Battle and played a major role in the Otherworld comedy), it's just IDW has pretty strict guidelines on what characters can appear and when (e.g The Hooligans, Mighty, Ray and Honey can only appear in the comics that take place in the classic era).

Pardon my long reply.
