Legend of Zelda General Discussion Thread

The closest emotional comparison I could make is how the SNK franchises can’t really matchup against Street Fighter in this wiki. Like, the AoF/Fatal Fury continuity is only Wall, SF is Small Building, and KoF is Small City+.

Bro pretty much every game that aren't the first 6 are super controversial in the fandom. Everytime a game comes out post SNES the fandom argues about whether it's a master piece or an affront to god.
Even the 1 to 6 sacred cows are starting to get hit with backlash as of late, with some circles calling them out (though I really dislike the word) "overrated" that only get away with everything due to a mix of nostalgia and their status as (compared to the rest of the franchise) cult classics leading fans to championing them undeservedly. This is noticeable in younger players who didn't grow up with the NES and SNES games and get a "that's it?" reaction after playing games after hearing of their reputation. They are quick to compare the older games to newer more polished RPGs and point out how the old FFs have aged in terms of writting and gameplay and the many flaws they have which older fans just let pass.

It's similar how Earthbound got a huge hit from its pedestal once it was re-released to a wider audience on the virtual console.

If there's one fanbase that's absolutely shattered it's Final Fantasy.

Really? I guess I've seen that happen with Zelda more than FF cause the same thing happened when stuff like Zelda 2, the Oracle games, the first two Link's Awakenings, etc got ported to Virtual Console

So while we wait for new profiles to roll in, what's your dream Zelda game? Bonus points if it's not a genre we've seen yet.

For me I’ve always wanted a game where Link actually remembers his past lives, though I don’t know how that’d really play out. Still, imagine how powerful he’d be if he did?

His peak power just kinda comes from outside items like ToC, FD mask, the Triforce, Sages, MS on crack, etc.

Him remembering wouldnt inherently make him any more powerful.

I mean yeah, experience wise he'd be best.

But that comes the issue of which timeline? Downfall would give him the most to draw from.

Most likely. Also if he remembers everything he probably doesn’t even have to do any trials that he usually goes through to prove his worth or draw the Master Sword.

In fact let’s be honest, a Link with all the memories of his past lives would basically be a speedrunner.

Hi Tarta!
Heyo, been well?
Also FF6 is the best FF, FF7 and 9 also good.
Very original opinion I know.
Tactics is also good.
Eeeeeeeeeeehhh... Dunno, I legit think there's no "best game" and there's almost always some FF that does something better than other. Having replayed the SNES triology not so long ago I can tell you, they have issues, many, among them their age. VI still under that romantic umbrella with Tactics as my second fave, but I wouldn't sugarcoat it does many things wrong (though this leads to a more healthy relationship, accept its shortcomings and still love the crap out of it, same with VII and Tactics for me).

I second Dust that a straightup RPG would be pretty dope. We can have relationship values and relationships like in Persona or Star Ocean for added bonus.

But one thing I would really like regardless, is Zelda getting to star her own game. Make it different from Link's formula so it doesn't come as a replacement or copy (and instead of fighting Ganondorf have her own villain), but it would be dope for her to have her own adventure. I know there's that CD-I games with her, but c'mon I mean a proper game with Nintendo's touch.

Perhaps, but it's my opinion so it's objectively correct.
And "age" is never gonna come into play, i played that shit on console before 3D was even a thing, im not jaded by modern conventions

Actually, we did get that. Zelda's Adventure.

If you want a, y'know, better, game to do that with, Cadence of Hyrule lets you start as Zelda.

I've considered the idea for a tactics or strategy game using ALTTP Zelda during the events of Link's Awakening, here she leads the Hylian army against a new enemy while also nodding towards Link being stuck on the island.

Kinda random but god I love the Majora >>> Ganon agenda.

It's just so funny how the Triforce of Power never gets compared to anything or anyone so it can't be reliably scaled to the funny mask.
I mean, there’s always been the headcanon and theory that it’s actually a sealed god of some kind like the Fierce Deity so that could explain why it’s stronger than an individual piece.

Well yeah, cause that’s what it is
It isn't. Never once stated or even implied. All we know is that it's evil, whether that be something was sealed within it, or the mask itself is much like a Tsukumogami, we do not know, just that the mask's true self is a formless evil that can manifest into a physical evil (wrath and incarnation).

But they never once use the word "god" in reference to it. At best the NPG calls it a demonic spirit.

And the FD mask is implied to be the result of all the feelings and thoughts of the denizens of Termina given form, much like how the Zora mask is that of Mikau, the FD is that of Termina itself. Especially when you look at the raw japanese game text and the Aounuma interview.

Yeah the closest thing to Majora being a god is from that one manga chapter and even then I don't it refers to Majora's original form as a god or anything similar

I have the manga raws and they never do, though I'm gonna make a profile for the manga ones along with other shit im done the MM parts minus calcs, im just tacking on OOT shit atm

Btw still waiting on the render

I have been. Most of them are just redundant bits (stat buffs, elements, etc), or hard to list. Like, do the Zonai heads qualify for their own version of homing attack? They aren’t useful alone. Unless we’re discussing a entire subsection based on describing his arsenal in detail, I’m not sure what to add.

Oh right also a quick complaint.
The fact that we didn't get gear based on Kakariko villager attire is a crime.

This would've looked so good on him ffs

Nothing is truly redundant, if he has multiple ways to buff, he has multiple ways to buff. In a wiki where anything and everything can be negged, or not, having multiple methods isn't a bad thing. Some characters can null some, but not others, like what's stopping Poison Ivy from ******* over any plant-based items? Nothing. But she can't do shit against methods that don't involve flora, so he could still use those instead.
If you only list one method, in the situation he can't use it, but he has the same buff tacked onto something he COULD use, but isn't listed, we'd need to make an emergency CRT and that's just a pain in the ass.

Plus we indexing wiki, we index first and foremost.

And yeah, I'd say make a whole ass subsection for every zonai item, and explain what they do in detail, like in the notable technique section.

There’s a difference between indexing and trying to pad the word count.
Writing a short one-sentence description for the stuff he canonically has is padding? Like ain't my fault they gave him ten fucktillion items, a chunk with similar (but not mechanically identical) effects.
