DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (2024–2025) (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Someone gets it
the man does broly better than JYB
no offense to the latter but his Voice does not fit broly

About to say, and it's not just the Pro-Vic crowd that feel this way, to my (admitted) surprise (?)
JYB has his time and place, but comparing the two, JYB just sounds miscast.

Apparently there was some casting f*ckery with Chris Sabbat at the helm, but I couldn't find much substantial outside of affidavits and Vic/Sabbat shittalking each other. Not sure entirely what that's about, but coming up on 6 years after the fact, nothing would surprise me (especially considering JYB/Haberkorn got similar accusations from KV advocates, and they didn't get the PR on their cases that Vic got. Very odd ngl).

In fact, on that note, it's genuinely fascinating to see which of his detractors and closeted supporters (in relation to the careers they want to keep) actually ended up in a Death Battle episode (Vic, and his main two accusers in Rial/Marchi... actually never appeared in an episode to my knowledge, which I find interesting). JYB obviously reprised his role as Ichigo Kurosaki (we're not all that coy about the alias these days, are we?), Chuck Huber is who we have to thank for 'I've been playing human' (again, not joking), Chris Niosi was in Tigerzord vs Epyon (he didn't actually say anything pro or anti-Vic afaik, but sods law he'll come up because of the assault stuff), Miles Luna was technically a reprisal for Meta vs Carolina (he was in on what was, lets be frank, the main cover-up when RT initially sacked Vic), Alejandro Saab (various, Red Ranger comes to mind) is an interesting case, because despite offering Rial emotional support of a sort, he's mostly honoured his agreement to not take sides in the case (TMK since Brad Venable died he hasn't said anything about KV/ISWV outside of one tweet condemning the more zealous Vic stans for celebrating Brad's passing because he was also pro-Rial/Toye, of which Saab was completely chill with the ISWV crowd willing to admit their cohorts doing this were out of line)... I could go on, but I think you get my point.

Apparently Kakashi and Master Splinter know each other in the TMNT Naruto crossover.

My hatred for funimation grows everytime I decide to go reread the court documents. It sucks that they make modern DB English dub, the best dub of all time for my money, because God their culture was filthy. Don't know how anyone could take their pearl clutching seriously

But Todd and JYB were able to expose their accusations as fake and malicious rather quickly. And Vic and JYB remain on good terms so I can take solace in that at least

It took me too long to realise that during the scene where infinite is killing everyone using the phantom ruby, Bowser isn’t struggling to use his magic to attack back but rather to protect his minions which explains why only his generals died and not them. Really loving these small details that show the dynamics both characters have with their armies.

To be honest: I think JYB sounds bad as Z Broly, but I think he's a pretty good Super Broly voice.

Why? I don't know, I think it's because Super Broly is a lot more ferocious and feral like. Which I think JYB nails pretty well, from my experience anyway.

Bowser getting showed respect after Ganon was a big W

This episode also gave Metal Sonic a lot of respect as well after the...thing which was Metal Sonic vs Zero.

The guy overwhelmed members of Bowser's army, one shotted Base Bowser as Neo Metal Sonic, overwhelmed Fury Bowser as Super Neo Metal, took out both Kamek and Bowser Jr (high ranking in Bowser's army) and pushed Bowser to use a Grand Star on top his Fury form to be destroyed.

I think it's wrong to say that Metal Sonic died to Bowser's ultimate attack, he died due to how much he was carrying Eggman throughout the fight. Dude was an absolute menace.

I'm actually reading through a good chunk of the court docs as we speak... and my lord I don't know how anyone managed to decipher half of the shit that was actually going on here. That goes for both sides (defense mostly, but also some of Vic's stuff... he could have handled better (thanks Ty Beard for being a wet flannel of a lawyer! You're the reason the most damming affidavits on your side were kicked out on a technicality!))

I find it especially hilarious how the first request for TCPA clumsily crowbars in the affidavit of the Yost twins (that's supposed to be of benefit to Rial/Marchi). Like... Rial, you could still have attempted to turn this civil suit AGAINST Vic instead of throwing it out - the only one silencing alleged victims at that point was you. (Oh, and members of Kiwifarms actually found out that the Yost twins were actually living mates of Rial at one point. Say what you will about KF slurs, doxxes and Fedposting (I don't strictly approve of it either) - but they are RELENTLESS at archiving shit). Yosts sound like the complete opposite of "one of the 100s (that were never scrutinized for the sake of the case) with no ulterior motive or relation" if you ask me.

I've probably got the wrong hyperlink, but it's there if you know where to dig. I'll spoiler tag the most damming archive they have where Elizabeth (Libby) Yost refers to Rial as 'her big sister':

That's another thing: I counted 14 affidavits against Vic (only half-ish of which pertain to alleged Sexual misconduct), most of which were either thralls to Rial/Marchi, or had glaring inconsistencies like Emmett Plant, whose testimony is on behalf of another whose own Testimony/Affidavit does not exist, and Mary Reese who, despite alleging that 'a photo with Vic was made to "keep the peace"', said photo is also either apocryphal, or was straight up never submitted into evidence in favour of Rial threatening sceptics with her legal team (a natural response for the poor and traumatised! /sarc) and beefing with her hatedom on Twitter. The other 5 or so never went beyond allegation.

For another good balanced view on the case if anyone wants to know - I cannot recommend Celtic Phoenix's 6-part coverage of the lawsuit from the POV of early 2020 vociferously enough. If I ever make my own video/article of my own takes, I might want to get in touch with him, actually.

To be fair, Fury Boswer and Super Metal didn't really get into a proper fight, sadly the animator had to cut that part due to time constraints (if the tweet is to be belived, the sequence was going to be based on the titan fights from Frontiers).

I swear everytime a character's voice actor is replaced, it's always JYB. First it was Broly, then it was Dante, at this point he might as well voice Kenshiro if Fist Of The North Star gets a remade anime.

Metal did a lot before getting killed by Bowser atomic breath lol

Tldr from my perspective reading into it was that Vic lost a winnable case because his lawyer was too busy trying to get clout from the culture war surrounding the case to do his fcking job. Nick Rekita didn't help either.

It's very depressing, and I despise that this case became a culture war thing when it should've been a collective 'wow funimation is awful' realization.

Like Broly had just come out, Dragon Ball hype was so high and then shit ******* tanked it.

It felt like Dragon Ball lost all it's hype after this and just went quiet until like 2022.

Alright im bummed now imma stop thinking about it

Where do Bowser, Metal Sonic, Eggman, etc end up in terms of the strongest characters on death battle by their own logic and scaling?

Exactly. I've even seen some people speculate if Chupp was an activist/biased Judge, but I don't think Vic was the only one to get shit thrown out (there's actually a doc of Rial/Toye depositions getting chucked, iirc - dunno where it went, sods law I'll happen upon it when I'm not looking). Although that one "muh death threads" account with the default PFP is some of the lowest quality bait I've ever seen, and credit where it's due to Chupp for calling that bluff and living to tell the tale (even if he should have never dignified it with a response).

That's the thing about death threats: you stare them in the face and say 'how do you plan on making good on that threat?' - because let's be honest, these whackos spend more time announcing their manifestos than actually doing the deed.

In the words of Mr. Enter: "If someone wanted to kill you - you would be dead right now."

2-A, possibly 5-D for their strongest.

So below the DC/Marvel high tiers, Bill Cipher, and like 4 other individuals iirc. They're on par with Discord, Xeno Dragon Ball, and maybe Archie (iirc some bought possibly 6-D so their Archie might sweep). They're above everybody else.

I like to believe that the combatants of Death Battle are not trying to kill each other, but are essentially actors acting out a hypothetical fight to the death because of this meme here. Kind of like how the Looney Tunes are all just actors and all that jazz.

NGL, the scenario of two popular characters fighting to the death and brutally killing is rather depressing in itself (villains aside). So the actors playing a role theory I gleefully accept.

At the very least the deaths have become less graphic somewhat, and respect is thrown towards both sides (unless you're Homelander or Infinite) during the episode.

Yeah his lawyer is the worst one I think I’ve ever seen. I read those documents when it was all coming out and my god…

Ok I got no leg in this race, and I don't really care to dig any deeper, but from what I remember it was the lawyer's suggestion to go with a defamation lawsuit.

You know, those things that are notoriously hard to prove in court.

Honestly I'm so glad that Bowser and Ganon came back and got to be part of two of the shows best episodes after the complete MID that was their fight. Shame Ganondorf had to end up losing his comeback but hey no shame in losing to Dracula.
That matchup also felt pretty random? I dunno, but kinda aside both being rulers and the villains of two flagship series of Nintendo Bowser and Ganondorf don't really share that much.

As someone looking back on Vic's situation (you probably have a vague idea why), and is constantly critical of the directorial decisions of DBa's casting choices, I'll just say this right now: Nicholas Andrew Louie is the perfect break point between Vic and JYB as far as Broly is concerned. All in pitch, tone and direction.

I know it's about 4 years late to give props, but bravo to the guy. He deserves it.
I'm a bit nervous to ask, but did something happen recently with Vic? I haven't kept up with him, as the whole thing seemed pretty open and shut.
