DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (2024–2025) (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Cell technically copied Goku's Instant Transmissions and he has DBZ skill mimicry which with he arguably could learn to use other techniques, but these are usually just nothing in VS fights.

I think one of the worst things leading up to a new Death Battle tends to be the amount of 'I heard' in the arguments.

No citation where, no scan, and if you're disproving no evidence or counter point. A lot of people just toss around what they think they remember, or what someone else has been saying. Mantras get built up, the same things are said over and over again, new evidence is sometimes rejected or scoffed at because it would ruin the current confident consensus. Respect Threads and Blogs and Vs Wiki pages seem glanced at at best and then turned into games of telephone.

Not naming names, but a Bowser Vs. Eggman blog was being made fun of in a thread, but the argument didn't sound right to me, didn't take long to check the blog and the link in it and find out what had become a dogpile wasn't even what the author had said...

It can feel like a majority of the people talking about the fight with confidence don't actually know nearly as much about one or either character as they try to portray themselves as being.

It's also weird to me how quickly Vs Wiki pages and Respect Threads and Blogs are held up as evidence on their own, despite how quickly every site, thread, and even this chat are to complain about the pages on our site alone, let alone any random joe's work

So with the recent infamy going for Dragon Age, does Dragon Age have any MUs?
What "infamy?"

People are people, and people are lazy. People also tend to use things that support their beliefs and discard stuff that doesn't, even if they're hypocritical about it.

I don't think ANY single Sonic fan here is invested in Cell vs Metal (our General Discussion literally has like ONE post on it and everybody basically ignored it)

Hopefully you DBZchads get a Cell Sweep in the cast
im being real
cell vs metal feels like the definition of its only appeals to the DB community than to the broader audience
especially when you compare it to other DB vs Sonic MU

LITERALLY. And honestly not even then, because the rabid fans of each side definitely prefer a more prominent Dragon Ball vs Sonic match-up (Such as Sonic vs Goku or OH NO vs Big Daddy Green)

Granted, those now feel like match-ups that are just years too late/out of date nowadays. Ehhh, idk man, you can argue a renewal of Knux vs Piccolo because of Potential Unleashed/Orange, but Knuckles is just unironically Potential Man in that matchup

Cell's most thematic MUs are big Ls and Metal sorta anti-vibes.

But all other MUs have such shit connections I dont want them. All Garou has is vibes as well.

Maaaaan

at least with those two its easy to get Sonic moveset got a fix thanks to frontiers which gave the mu a new life in popularity and knux had a movie that boost his popularity again also helps that piccolo doesn't have any good alts these days
meanwhile metal got what really?
a super form that got jobbed out due to base shadow chaos fuckery?
only a threat during the first arc of idw
and that all folks
What does that mean?
nothing lets keep it vs related

...Gee, if only I'd posted a Cell MU a few pages back that didn't have these problems beyond obscurity... Oh wait...

Nah but fr, that's basically Karen Travers only issue. Made a whole other post about it, actually:

Can I just say that there's a reason I amended my Karen Travers top 8 with Cell's name recently?

Origin:
Modified by the OSF into becoming an 'SS Brain Eater', and one of (if not the) strongest Psionics in Scarlet Nexus's world. Motivated by the death of Alice Ichijo (Fubuki Spring's Fiancé) as a result of 'Others', and the Extinction Belt dipping below a certain point.

Powers and Arsenal:
Manipulation of the four main elements, Teleportation, master of CQC/Martial arts, psychokinesis (various), Time Travel via the Red Strings, AfO-style ability governing, duplication etc.

Purpose and Goals:
Build Seiran to overthrow New Himuka's autocratic government; create a timeline where Alice Ichijo lives, free of the 'Others'; eliminate the Kunad gate and the extinction belt.

General Character:
Mild-mannered and disconnected from those around him for the most part. Opportunistic enough to 'help' supposed enemies, if it means setting up future events in the timeline (as shown by him handing Yuito medicine that prevented memory erasure issues for a time). Strong believer in 'ends justify the means' (as proven by the several "entanglements" in the timeline created by his work).

Similarities to Cell:
(I know little about Dragon Ball in general, so take this with a grain of salt)
Origin implicates received powers by artificial means in a similar way. 'Revenge on the world' can be inferred by him wanting to bring Alice back, and viewing the Sumeragi's in active contempt (and who can blame him?). Powers and Arsenal might as well be the same. "Shadow in the recording" (DLC) might as well be his highest peak, and Brain Field is basically a Sayian form.

Assuming we're allowed to give Cell Toei scaling, both (currently) also have 2-C peaks. Make of that what you will.

EDIT: 'time travel' similarity is technically there, with the understanding that Cell travelled in a time machine at one point (?)
