Touhou Discussion Thread 3 ⌈Eternal Fantasy Edition⌋

I personally don't get the appeal of cuteness. Are cute little anime girls supposed to invoke a feeling in anyone? I feel nothing when I like at cute and moe things. I don't get it.

Real dogs on the other hand...

It probably varies from person to person. In this scenario, cute girls having lighthearted fun is just something that makes me feel relaxed and happy. Similarly to how a dog owner would look at their dog/play with their dog and feel happy upon doing so.
Though it's not just the cuteness of the mangas, I typically just lean more towards lighthearted fun than, say, fighting centered media. WaHH, Sangetsusei, etc are more enjoyable to me than stuff like SSiB. (Though I still like SSiB and fighting media in general, it's just not my preferred content).

Silent Sinner in Blue, the manga that has the SDM, Reimu, and Marisa build a rocket ship and has Sakuya try to open a window in the rocket ship to get some fresh air. It's also where the Watatsuki sisters come from.

Also I'd flat out say that Mizuchi would have to break character from what we've seen of her so far to be anywhere near characters like Kasen's arm. Like, she hasn't done anything to the multitude of newly passed out characters that she's had access to, and for all that Gensokyo is a good place for the existence of Youkai, having a grudge against its existence and how youkai are treated like everyday people by a lot of residents nowadays is not unreasonable nor fundamentally evil.

What's TNO? I never heard of it. Also, 1984 is a classic and has distorted society and culture a lot. I don't know what TNO is but 1984 will simply always be better.

How can you say something is better if you don’t know what the other thing is or even read it.

you can’t say something is better without reading or watching both.

The New Order is HOI 4 mods where the Axis win WW2, and their ideologies are taken into an extreme.

But hell, that world is ******* realistic bro.

TNO is a world where even God is disgusted and leave his own creation for the sheer horrors that they commit.

What I mean is that even if you enjoy something more than a classic that doesn't mean it's better than the classic. You can't simply be better than 1984, it's one of the books that left an enormous cultural impact on the world. You can't beat the classics. I enjoyed "Yuuka Kazami X Reader smut" more than 1984 but that doesn't mean it's better. That's like saying any anime is better than Dragon Ball. It isn't true. No, I haven't watched Dragon Ball and I'm speaking out of my arse once again.

Oh, it's a mod of a game I didn't even know existed? I thought you were talking about a book.

Also, I must mention that The Handmaid's tale is a bad political book and 1984 is way better.

I'm reading the Touhou manga for more than that. I kind of like the characters, their stories, and the world-building. It's just that I also love power demonstrations a lot. I probably like power demonstrations a lot more than other traits of a story.
I'm in same boat with Fuji and others here, just because you love power demonstration doesn't mean you need to disgraced the others aspect of it
I saw your views on the other Manga, and i heavily disagree with the points you made

I prefer a story where they explain why the characters behave the way they are, where their powers come from, the cosmology of their world (if it has a multiverse or more), why their world is a mess or a paradise, and more.

lots of world building/lore and exploring deep into everything.

Fair enough. I didn't intend to disgrace other aspects of stories. I just love power demonstrations a lot more than other parts of a story. The best way for me to explain it is that I simply like cool stuff and I like it when the characters I love do impressive feats.
I should also mention that I find that I find the other aspects of Touhou manga to be mediocre. I don't think Touhou mangas are good. They're just tolerable for me. I can't really explain why, it's more of a feeling. But Touhou manga, their dialogue, their stories and their comedy are not as memorable and impactful to me as other dialogues, stories and comedies I've read or seen. It all tends to me just mediocre and tolerable for me. Nothing too extraordinary in my opinion.
I just said that I would love it Touhou had more power demonstrations because dumb fun can make me enjoy a story a lot more. You could show me the most brainless plot imaginable but I'd still enjoy it if characters fight or do cool stuff. I realize that this might be too subjective and it might just be just my case.

I stopped being on a Touhou hating arc just because of this video.

I will no longer tolerate any criticism towards ZUN and his works. He is perfect. Gensokyo is perfect. Yuuka Kazami is perfect.

Unfunny jokes aside, go watch this video essay. It changed my perspective on Touhou and a lot of other things.

Finally did watched it and yes, 10000000% agree with it, while the plots and stories has so many unanswered questions left behind, the foundation of Touhou's world building and the story-telling are still the best

I don't know jack shit about music but this guy blindly reacting and analyzing Touhou characters just by their themes is really fun.
There is 4 episodes so far including: Hartmann's Youkai Girl, U.N. Owen, Immortal Smoke and History of the Moon.

Here is the first ep

I saw it. It was good. It definitely made me appreciate Touhou songs a lot more since some of them don't really convey certain emotions to me like Undertale songs for example.

Koishi_Komeijis_day.gif

This is a pixel art I made nearly a year ago. I forgot to post it here on Koishi's day. I haven't done pixel art or drawings in a long time. Neither have I written anything.

Hm.

You know how I said a while back (feels like 2 months ago now) that I considered myself 10% done with the research doc? And that I might break 100k words?

Well,

Upon reorganizing the doc (it was getting too big to navigate normally), I did some quick math and found out I'm actually closer to 7% done, and my final word count will likely be about 240k.

God help me.

What exactly are you working on? Is it just one big CRT about miscellaneous Took me too long to spell that word stuff?

Everything.

Researching every game, manga, print work, interview, CD, or whatever the hell else is out there. All so I can rework this verse completely, from the ground up. 7% done and I've already found a basis for an entirely new verse power, several dozen new powers and abilities for Reimu and Marisa alone, possible passive plot hax (text hax, at the very least), and honestly, a billion other things I don't have the energy to list right now. It'll be a year or more, I think, before this research manifests as actual profile edits and CRTs, but it'll all be worth it.

Holly damn sister, God help you indeed!
massive respects!

I've always wanted to read all of Zun's work start to finish, but the sheer amount of content kept intimidating me
So I constantly tried to delayed it until the end of school.
Would you happen to have a recommendation on where to start?
I think Touhou is a verse that is absolutely worth consuming.

Also are you planing to release not-as-important CRT's in the near future?

That depends on what you want out of the series. If you want to start with the bullet hell games but aren't very good, then I'd recommend starting with Perfect Cherry Blossom, which is among the easier games. For the manga, Wild and Horned Hermit is probably the best way to start, since it focuses on the main cast while not really requiring any knowledge of pre-existing dynamics (at least not to the extent of FS, LE, CDS, or so on). That being said, there isn't a best way to start getting into canon Touhou content, aside from just diving in headfirst, finding something that sticks with you, and branching out from there.

Also, I'm pretty much done with CRTs until I decide to release everything all at once. Once I'm done with research and profile rewrites, it'll be general ability additions first, and then other stuff I'm still deciding on the order of.

I've been thinking a lot about Touhou quotes recently, mainly because I've started HRT again and remembered what it was like to feel emotions. Some of these hit particularly hard for me rn.

"Now that I think of it, while the other humans called Reimu's predecessors 'Hakurei shrine maidens, they really don't call Reimu herself a shrine maiden. I believe it's because she doesn't take her duties seriously. You reap what you sow, after all. But the predecessors were only called 'shrine maidens'. Everybody forgot their real names. Skill begets stability, which everyone will recognize. However, that means you refute change and you conceal yourself behind your abilities. It is my opinion that technique is equivalent to self-denial."
-Rinnosuke

"Thinking of which, Eirin often calls Reisen "Udonge." I wonder why that is? She must think of her as something to gauge the extent of the impurity that's creeping into us... Or perhaps it's meant to mean that a moon rabbit who knew no impurity on the moon will become something beautiful when touched by the Earth's."
-Kaguya

“Danmakus are... Touhou is, always the land of dreams. There is nothing wrong with showing dreams.”
-ZUN

Oh lord.

This will be the largest rework in the wiki up to this point, right?

What does the term "Stonewall" mean in this context? I have never heard of that term being used in that way before.
You
But in serious note, stonewall is a attitude of someone who wrote an long a** paragraph without even listening to what the others say (like "stop", "you are strawmaning", etc)
Could be wrong lel
