DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (2024–2025) (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Folks out here acting like this fight was peak man standards for a good fight in this day and age be so low folks be gassing up shit that's mid at best
People have their own standards, I feel as though it's mean spirited to bash that, as an opinion too tethered to your own perception of the fight. People can have fun and some whimsy, nothing wrong with that.

I just thought about something: the way they worded Kratos scaling to the speed of Helios was kind of weird to me because Kratos didn't fight Helios. Helios was already weakened when he was crushed by that Titan, Helios tried using his light to blind Kratos, but Kratos blocked his vision and powered through it to get to Helios.

Instead: I feel like a better way to justify the scaling would be to scale Kratos to Hercules who, if I'm not mistaken, can block Helios' light faster than it can be pulled out during the fight. Or just upscaling Kratos above the shockwaves generated by the Primordials which created the universe.
Now that I thought about it, they made it significantly more difficult for Lore bros to justify the scaling because their own justification is flawed

Opinions may vary but at a certain point I refuse to dance to the notion of this being remotely peak any manner
The emotional moments were done badly and just reeks of appealing to emotional stunned man children to clap for instead of actual making sense in the animation

They scaled him to promordials via Cronos, also yes Hercules reacts to you using Helios light

Mannn…

The more I think about this fight an episode the more lower it gets. It’s not the same as Bowser vs Eggman where the more you watch it the better it gets.

You can tell DA put a lot of passion in the fight, but I agree with @Tipper17 that he should not be the only 3-D animator for death battle rn. It’s feeling like it’s just a bit too much for the guy.

Honestly, I’m thinking about putting this episode as a 6 or 5 out of 10, really disappointed.

So what's the consensus on spawn versus Ghost Rider? Just watch the cast on the subject and there it seemed fairly even
Well the main questions are whether DB equalizes the two's stats and whether Ghost Rider's haxes can win out the day. It's like a 50/50 for both of these questions.

Lmao, i know the guy who did the post

Btw, Vegeta's height was kinda of retconned given how he is showed as being a bit taller on DBS than his past-self:

Kratos should be groveling to Asura's developer/publisher. GoW wouldn't even exist if it weren't for Onimusha. In fact, no modern stylish/character action series would, especially DMC.

Everything predating Warlords is pretty archaic, too, Fighting Force, Ninja Shadow of Darkness, Nightmare Creatures, etc. Here's hoping Way of the Sword knocks it out of the park. I guess I'll find out how the gameplay looks tomorrow, I already have worries about it being way too Soulsborne adjacent, a sub-genre of action games I frankly couldn't give a **** less about if you payed me...

So the lineage would be Arcade beat em ups(Streets of Rage, Final Fight, Nightslashers)>"Prototype" 3D beat em ups(Ninja:SoD, Fightning Force, Nightmare Creatures, etc.)>Onimusha>every character action games from the last 2 decades.

I feel like DA (devilartemis) is better at animating comedy skits in 3D more than actual fits, because I think he is more acustomed to doing that then versus matchups.

It doesn't mean he is bad per say, but he needs to get better at it, since imo, it seems so
Frieza VS Megatron (despite the awkward pacing and cut content from storyboards), Saitama VS Popeye, and Vader VS Obito were all awesome.

I don’t know why his last two episodes were so janky. Then again he did do Spider Gwen VS Batgirl.

Idk about that own chief you can say the same about modern action games and Kratos, he really pushed the envelope himself

This is true. All I'm saying is that Onimusha IS the foundation. The devs of GoW admitted, several times, that they 100% aped almost everything from Onimusha. It's basically the "NWOBHM" of action games, every other variety spawned from the promethean flame that is Warlords, including Character Action & Soulsbornes.

I don't think just because his dad had another famous son that Kratos should grovel to asure. Unfortunately asure's dead left him to die in a ditch so I don't think he cares

The gap between Dawn of Dreams (2006) & Way of the Sword (2026) is obviously massive. Don't give up hope for another Asura's Wrath, any & all of Capcom's dormant IPs are on the table after this, as far as we know.

That's like a constant in anime and manga, characters weight incredibly little even if they are towers of muscle like JoJos. I wonder if it has to do with Japan's views regarding weight in general.
Well for JJBA the weights are accurate. Characters like Jotaro were never actually all that buff to begin with, it was just a side effect of the style that Araki was emulating for the time, big muscles were all the rage. His modern art is how characters are actually supposed to look like.
