DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Maybe it's because I wasn't that hyped or cared about the match at all, or just that I'm easy to please in general, but I liked it.

Good for you, but as someone who WAS invested in the matchup and loves both characters (mainly Megamind), the entire thing was pure hot ass. Even if Megamind won it would still be worse than Kratosurs for me.

I dont think the episode was as bad as everyones claiming, it was trying to heavily match the vibe of the two movies.

Definitely a lot of wasted potential and the animation should have been better, they should have used stuff like Megamind's mech but there were a lot less pre-prepared assets for both so its w/e.
Definitely could have been one of their best but definitely not one of their worst

So... the analysis sucked for both characters, the conclusion was shaky at best and didn't really convince me of Gru winning, and the animation was definitely an early project. I know it's a new animator, so this was basically practice, but holy shit. 3/10 episode. It had some... okay jokes, but overall...

I disagree, its been shown in Modulo they have different biologies then Humans in JJK
...No they don't, they literraly use the same type of energy and all (even if the color of the soul is different).
either way, IT DOESN'T MEAN THAT THEY SHOULD BE IMMUNE TO POISON, there is no proof that their own physiology is so different from humans to the point that certain things don't affect them.

i loved the first two despicable movies as well the megamind movie, ts hurts to watch

Dang my goat lost... The last time I felt sad like this was when my preferred lost was Tom

a cartoon character is sitting in a chair with a nuclear symbol on his chest

First watch-through thoughts: The episode is like a 6.5/10 for me, not bad, but I'd put it a bit under RezeBaku for this year. I like the analysis storywise, though both had stuff that the EP didn't cover (especially higher stuff for the Death Ray). I'm already seeing peeps saying this animation was terrible, but I didn't notice it looking crazy bad. Maybe cause I watched new eps for the first time on a big TV screen, I might be missing some small things. On first watch-through tho, the animation was pretty fine. Best part of the ep was the character interactions and the jokes, like Gru's ship falling on the bricks and the kill, which got a small chuckle out of me.

Yuji vs Denji next time was not expected. I thought it was gonna be way later in the year, but regardless, I'm insanely hyped for it. There are both my goats, but I've committed to arguing for Denji for so long that I gotta root for and bet on him on principle even tho I think Yuji winning is completely valid. I really hope this waiting period isn't peeps doomposting about DB cause the episode wasn't the best, and slandering Denji/Chainsaw Man as a whole cause if it is, this might end up being one of the bottom 5 waiting periods for me.

I will make a slight correction and that is they did bring up the death ray stopping the 10 mile meteor and therefore far stronger than anything Gru survived, but in a black box.

In the same section where they said nothing MM could do would hurt Gru.

Dog what was this episode. I wasn't even a huge fan of either series going into it but the debate was always interesting. I hate that this season has been nothing but matches I don't care for other than CellMetal, and we still have TravelAang waiting. Not to mention damn near back-to-back episode for the same franchise c'moooooon...
Ngl, I always felt off about Gru’s missile feat because it makes a mushroom cloud but the actual destruction we see seems way lower than Megamind’s Death Ray feat.

False again. Death Battle buys EM scaling for JJK, and Dabura further give them a Rel+ speed scaling. They're about equal. The spear feat iirc was calced at Rel.
If they buy that shit, then they are doing it badly, DABURA IS THE TOP SPEED OF THE VERSE and even the ******* narrator said that he went beyond any other human being could ever go (and he isn't even Light speed at all).
There is no way IN HELL that Denji is slower than Yuji

I actually like Denji and Yuji but I hate the research for this show so hopefully the animation looks good next time.

The animation for Gru vs Megamind looked extremely rushed, but I didn't hate the episode, it felt on-brand with what I imagined a fight involving the Minions would look like, even the sense of humor

Chainsaw Man is really going to get 0-3'd huh

That too. They assumed it was 4 nukes worth of destruction but it didn't like... destroy that whole city in the aftermath? Like I don't think the pavement was really cracked after it was said and done. Just the small hole that he climbed out of despite the front yard of the house next to him being completely untouched. The math ain't mathin'.

It made a hole in the ground a few feet deep, meanwhile Megamind’s Death Ray destroyed thousands of tons of stone and rock. I’m guessing they assumed that the missile was a tactical thermonuclear warhead and found out its actual payload assuming it was given it produced a city-block sized mushroom cloud? Still, that’s pretty lazy compared to actually calculating the destruction we see.

It was literally stated in Gojo vs Makima. And Yuji isnt even Human, so that rule doesnt apply to him.

The spear feat is accepted here as FTL. Knowing Death Battle they will probably lowball it to Sub-Rel or Rel to make it closer. I also have my doubts about them using EM waves as an argument for Yuji's speed as they used Black Flash as a basis for Gojo and Mahito.

They already buy the EM waves for JJK. Yuji is for sure getting that scaling. A weakened Megukuna dodged the Waves, Yuji fought and kept up with a much stronger version, and this is further backed by by his narrative scaling in Modulo and his Special Grade status that just came out.

Ngl fellas I feel like DB's been going downhill with these fights. Some are still cool, sure, but I feel like we're not getting anything anywhere near Bowsegg ever at this point.
Research has always had its holes so I ain't gonna complain much here as that'd be screaming into empty space (even though they ignore or misinterpret mechanics that could allow complete changes in the results a bit too much) but the animation is mostly mid and the structure of the fight is just the worst. They've been underutilizing basically everything characters have.
I was expecting Godzilla vs Hulk to have some of their transformations and power ups play a role, instead they basically used nothing.
I was hoping to see some clever and comedic playarounds in in Gru vs Megamind, instead they only used their strongest stuff and never even brought out a mech.
I was hoping some clever strategies and fun interactions would appear in Ash vs Yugi but they used a single reversal of attack as the trap card...on a move that is a homing attack that could just be redirected again...

I feel like I might as well stop watching the analysis at this point because regardless of what they say the animation isn't gonna use even a tenth of what they mention. So far like there was Bowsegg and Tomyote that were creative with the powers, there was the FF episode I didn't watch but people say was good, but the rest just feel like they lack proper direction and are often uninspired.

Also lol at the “yeah Megamind can dodge lightning but Gru can pilot a hypersonic jet” as being more important to note before him actually dodging heat-seeking missiles.
