Korra and Rey have quite a few connections really. Outside of just the comparisons of avatar to Star Wars. Both Korra and Rey are gifted successors who through there adventures find the legends they grew up with weren’t true

- only downside is Deslin isn't well known among the General Audience

- Abilities could be fine but not as strong in comparison to Korra vs Deslin
- Music Potential is there
- It was a CDB and does play off an old idea back in S1 DB when Ben was thinking of Aang vs Luke

This fight was originally going to be Harry Potter VS Aang from the Avatar series. However, at the time Ben Singer had not watched the Avatar series yet. After doing so, he decided to change it from Aang to Luke Skywalker saying that it wouldn't be fun to watch with Aang being much stronger and would easily win.

Anyways, to the people who didn't want spoilers before, my thought is that Korra vs Ray's main connection is "People don't like them and (incorrectly) call them Mary Sues", and DB probably wouldn't wanna do it. Otherwise it's just female successors and not much else.
Korra could carry the episode's popularity if they use Delsin Rowe, and Korra vs Delsin is more of a legacy match. Or if they really wanted to throw a pitch from left field, they could do Korra vs Ahsoka, a matchup that IIRC was popular at some point.
As for Akuma's match, unfortunately Akuma vs Shao Kahn seems the most likely since the matchup didn't fall out of favor until after S8 started production (Similar to Lex vs Doom), though hopefully DB thought of better matchups for Akuma like Akuma vs Raoh, Akuma vs Garou or Akuma vs Yujiro. Akuma alone could qualify for legacy since he's the 3rd or 4th combatant in the entire history of the show.

Akuma has Yujiro Hanma beside Shao Kahn and Raoh.
And yes Akuma vs Shao Kahn is one legacy matchup and likely giving something for poor Mortal Kombat vs poor Street Fighter.
Oh Ororo Munroe has Black Lightning, Fujin and Domenico Pucci.
The real surprise may come from Ash Ketchum vs Lucy Heartfilia or Yugi Muto.

If you freeze in a very specific time, you'll see a sub of "Woooahh" when Akuma is revealed. Is it possible whoever is fighting Akuma needs subs to communicate like in Geese vs Heihachi? Though I can't think of any of Akuma's opponents that would say "wooahh". It could just be a mistake.
