None of you were quite sure how it happened, but it did. You were amongst the many people that had boarded the cruise ship for a ride across the Pacific ocean. For a time, things seemed great; luxurious service, entertainment galore, the finest cuisines this side of the world has seen, and so much more. You and others would be partying throughout the day, having the time of your lives. And then came nighttime.
Some of you might have still been awake and enjoying yourself, some of you might have been asleep, but none of you expected the cruise to come to a sudden and quite unexpected end.
Around 12:34 at midnight, the cruise ship was besieged by a native of the sea; a leviathan of near unmatched size and ferocity had risen from the depths of the saltwater to commence an attack upon man's vehicle for the sea. Perhaps it saw it as potential prey, or an intruder to its territory. Whatever the case, the monster tore into the ship like it was wet cardboard, ripping through its hull with its powerful jaws and sharp teeth and splitting it in two.
Countless passengers perished from the attack, either being crushed by the debris of the ship or even consumed by the monster. Those that instead fell into the bonechilling waters would find themselves assaulted by other smaller predators lured in by the promise of easy food.
The cruise ship was 300 meters and weighed 120,000 gross tons, and yet it was ripped asunder with ease by the oceanic titan. The wreckage of what was once a proud example of man's technological skill would forever rest at the bottom of the sea, becoming the home for many deepsea marine life.
Against all odds, however, you managed to survive the night, clinging to a chunk of the ship that remained drifting atop the ocean surface. Throughout the night, you would be besieged by the chill of the air and water, and occasionally be harassed by a lowly scavenger looking for a quick bite.
Finally, just before the crack of dawn, you washed ashore a sandy beach. The air was thick with the morning fog, the smell of seawater filling your nostrils. Scattered randomly across the beach, washed up driftwood and dead marine animals could be found with relative ease, numerous small scavengers feeding on the dead biomass.
You would slowly rouse from unconsciousness, awakening to find yourself on a strange new island. You'd quickly find that you were far from alone on the beach; several small azhdarchids, each roughly the size of a small child and clad with bluish-black protofeathers, hopped about nearby, some of them eyeing you as though they were waiting to see if you could be their next meal. If you were to look ahead across the beach, you'd see the faint outline of a series of trees through the fog.
The question of the day is, what's your next move…?
