Gfycat has been problematic to use for a while; it has moved uploads to its ****-focused sister website if it detected NSFW content, which has inadvertently ended up hitting a lot of feats. But recently things have turned more dire.

No-one has been able to upload anything to it for a few months, and around that time it got delisted from Apple's app store, over which they provided no communication. And recently, their security certificate lapsed for five days, making it so that unless someone tinkered with their browser, it would refuse to connect.

They've since fixed that and claimed that it was a temporary issue, but the other problems remain, and communication has remained minimal, so keeping clips there seems like a bad idea. There are still quite a few Gfycat links on our pages; these should be saved and reuploaded someone else as quickly as possible.

With all these issues websites have been facing recently, uploading all of these images to our wiki whenever possible, and then replacing the old links with their new URLs, is probably ideal, and this solution has also been directly recommended to me by the Fandom staff.

Here are all of our wiki-hosted Gfycat image links:

https://vsbattles.fandom.com/wiki/Special:LinkSearch?limit=5000&offset=0&target=https://gfycat.com/

Please take note that the vast majority of them are just from now redundantly stored posts from our old wiki forum. You do not need to focus on them at all, only on the links in our regular wiki pages.

It would be very appreciated if all of the Gfycat links from blog posts are replaced by our administrators and content moderators (who will be given temporary wiki administrator rights to be able to participate in this project), as regular members are not able to edit them.

Here is where you upload images and gifs to our wiki:

https://vsbattles.fandom.com/wiki/Special:Upload

The wiki-hosted images and gifs can be accessed via our forum, by linking to them like this:

https://vsbattles.fandom.com/wiki/File:SupermanPrime.jpeg

If that option is not possible, due to the gifs being more than 10 Megabytes in size, please upload them to Imgur instead.

Help with quickly organising this project would also be very appreciated.

Tough! Wish I could help but it is unfortunate.
But seems the website went to the wrong path

Yes. I would also recommend using a web-browser called Brave for visiting Gfycat pages, to avoid any unappealing advertisements.

For people comfortable using command line programs, this program may make saving files from gfycat easier. You just type "yt-dlp gfycat.com/whatevertheURLhashere" into command prompt and it'll download it for you, automatically naming it and everything. So you don't have to deal with the ads or an ad blocker at all.

You can paste multiple URLs after each other and it'll download them in sequence. I personally, downloaded them one at a time, so that I could more easily organise reuploading them, but that may not be your cup of tea.

Thank you very much for helping out. 🙏

I'll try to look out for them where I can. Thankfully, use of them in my supported verses is pretty minimal if they're used at all. When I have time, I'll try to replace them when I come across them.

Thanks a lot. It is very appreciated. 🙏🙂

If someone can compile a list for easy access, I could try to look into it and/or handle a given section.

Really can't help you there. I already take hours on end just to produce a single viable calc (and I can be hellbent on finishing a calc); a database is a bigger beast than a blog.

It would be really great if any of our members are willing to copy the list with over 11,000 entries that I linked to in my first post in this thread, and help to shorten it down to just the regular pages and blog posts, without any stored redundant old wiki forum posts. 🙏

Thank you for being willing to help out. 🙏

Also, this is very important.

I've actually been helping out for the past few hours, but in a very different way.

Simply put, I've been going down the list and attempting to delete the old forum posts to make it a bit cleaner for anyone attempting to hit the actual pages that need their images updated.

I'm taking a break now with plans on coming back later, but at the very least I hope this helps a bit.

A word of advice, when using the external link search function, check for http://, http://www, https://, and https://www prefixes separately to ensure you cover everything. Also, when copying a link into the search bar, omit its closing slash to cover all the results.

I've prepared searches for http://gfycat.com and http://www.gfycat.com (https://www.gfycat.com didn't have search results), and considering their comparative small returns, preferably focus on those first to get them out of the way.

I personally don't think deleting old forum posts in the new forum is a good idea as they have historical value. The old forum posts in VS Battles Wiki, however, should really be deleted.

The new forum doesn't even show up in the link search.

Uhhh, those are what I was deleting?

Thank you for helping out to you as well. 🙂🙏

I'm currently a bit busy with a irl project but I have changed quite a few gfycat links into imgur ones already.

Thanks a lot to everybody who are helping out. 🙏🙂

Would any of you be willing to help out with this project please?
Likewise, It'd have to be in a few days for me. I just finished this semester, and am catching up on some backlogged development work for AscendantCraft.

If it's still needed then, though, I would love to pitch in.

Thank you. All competent help is very appreciated. 🙂🙏

You should not delete the links, you should save the gifs from them, upload them to our wiki, and then replace said links in our wiki pages with the new locations for the gif files.

Ik but since they were really minor I just deleted them

Unfortunately some of the links I'm seeing are already 404'd. I might provide a list of the pages with dead links in a week or so, so that members knowledgeable about them can replace them asap

Also, this program is dedicated to downloading Gfycat files.

You can mass download all of a user's uploads, or you can create a text file listing a bunch of URLs and it'll download all of them.

That may help speed up the downloading aspect.

We need to distribute the work between as many members as possibly, or several thousand gif links in our wiki will not work anymore soon. So more volunteers would be extremely appreciated. 🙏

Also, please do not simply post your unwillingness to help out at all here. It only serves to discourage others by spreading negativity.

Seems like every other week something bad happens to important sites we use 🗿. I have 28 calculated verses on my wall and a majority happen to use gfycat links.
I'm tired.

Yes, and that is why we need our members to step up en masse when these types of problems happen. There are many hundreds of us. We could get this done quite quickly and efficiently if even a few dozen of us volunteer to help our wiki. 😐
