The vegeta/mewtwo vs shadow shouldn't be used as an example because they are old and their research was worse than now.

All despite the fact that researching battles is literally their job...

The point is: yes it is their job to research characters and determine who will win, but they are first artists and not literature researchers or just nerds, they are more focused on artistic themes and the production pipeline of an entertainment work, like they can make great animations or real life productions with various art styles but the research department really upsets people from time to time. And they sort of try to circumvent this by making stompy or even spiteful matchups where chances of screwing things up due to a mistake in one or multiple parts of their research works.

I'm aware of that and while thematic it doesn't sell it for me
mainly because Vincent has Vash the Stampede and his fighting style gells off far better than with Shadow

4. Asura is not wasted on Kratos

1. Another DC W
2. Red Hulk appearing is now near dead

Asura vs Kratos

Pros:

1. Its heavily Thematic
2. Kratos brings in Mainstream Appeal

Cons:

1. Its a stomps depending on how you view Kratos stats
2. Animation Potential isn't strong due to both respective nature in regards to there feats
3. Kratos Alternatives simply are more suited to fight Kratos than Asura

Pros:

1. Decent to Good connections
2. Great music potential(Blazblue and Devil May Cry has kickass music)
3. Two returning characters that have new information.
4. A potential to be a very great sprite animation.

Cons:

1. Depending on what you believe for either side, this will be stomp one way or another(Believe in the hax and speed BB has, Ragna shit stomps. If not, Dante shit stomps. Also Uni DMC is debatable)
2. Two returning characters
3. This could be seen as a waste since both had great fights at the time.

I can see why the constant harping on Yang vs Tifa can seem petty, and it kinda is, but it's for good reason.

And speaking of fights with FF7 characters, Link vs Cloud 2 is about to be a stomp in Links favour once the universal upgrades go through
