DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (2024–2025) (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

kazuya vs wesker from a random fight animation standpoint aint bad its easy to see the appeal and there no shame in it my thing is wesker doesn't match the full on escalation with current tekken stuff basically being anime esque up the ass
before say t7 and t8 you could make the fight work decently enough without issue
now? well yeah

Ryu vs Jin pre t8 could've been debated given how the community scales Ryu even if ya find it stupid but it's there
It was fueled mainly by Death Battle, cuz before that episode those trying to scale street fighter werent so braindead about whats counted for the series, now they spam the crossover meteor and udon comics as if its fine, the akuma episode used even more crossovers too and even the blog by one of the researchers counted various of them

Goku vs Superman is a more special match, even so supes notoriously holds back and goku goes from weakest to strongest forms as it goes, it makes sense some points have supes be pushed bck by him

It was still a stomp though, it doesn't matter if it was a legacy MU or something, Supes was pretty much the obvious winner. And yet, the episode itself was goated and the fight was fun as hell. Tipper mentioned that Wesker can't match Kazuya's more high scale stuff (idk if it's true, I don't play RE and Tekken), if that's the case then just say that. Say that the MU just has bad animation potential, because just having an obvious victor doesn't ruin the episode, as long as the animation can still be fun as hell.

Also, strange question, but what matches would become better tenfold if looked at from a story perspective, and not by logic?

For recent episodes, and I know it's crazy, but I think Omniman vs Bardock fits this bill. Like yeah with everything Bardock should have stomped hard, but I couldn't actually imagine him winning if say, Toriyama was writing it, you know?

Kratos vs Asura

Superman vs Scarlet king comes to mind (even though the MU itself is dogshit)

EDIT: I misunderstood the question, Kratos vs Asura's ending does NOT look good if looked from a story perspective

A matrix sorta character in a zombie apocalypse setting to you sounds like it matches to a character fighting in outer space on a falling meteor while bringing you into their personal dimension to perform a dbz style beam energy and blows up in your face and the dimension in question hosting celestial objects?

I am not familiar with either series, I just literally said this. If their fighting styles indeed just don't mesh, then say that instead of "muh debate" because DB at this point has done alot of stomp MUs of varying quality.

Another one I've just remembered (and also an actually good MU that is obscure, so I'm going to promote it rn) would be Mecha Sonic vs the Chasm. If you read the contrasts, it makes alot of sense for Mecha Sonic to take a W from a narrative point of view (And it helps alot that he also wins from a VS debating point of view).

Most of them shouldnt have happened and others were done in a way to compensate how obviously easy was to tell its unfair, like omniman vs homelander and spongebob vs aquaman

Yeah, sure, Dracula vs Ganondorf, Magneto vs Tetsuo and Popeye vs Saitama shouldn't have happened, got it.

look stomps are nothing new lets be real here

the real issue when it comes to stomp be whether either characters have nothing to play off each other to make up for as decent story telling or interesting fight perspective

another factor comes down to scale
EX: chief vs slayer is a stomp for the latter but slayer ain't nuking planets or stars everytime he fights hell he doesn't do shit far beyond what chief deals with in general

That's literally what I'm trying to say, as long as the actual fighting styles of characters compliment each other, it doesn't really matter if it's a stomp or not
