DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Also on the topic of Gru vs Megamind: Despicable Minds, the OST for this fight, may also be one of the most boring and forgettable pieces of music I've ever seen. Like I get the first half of it was trying to imitate the spy, almost espionage style soundtrack of the Despicable Me movies, but what the **** was that second half suppose to be a reference to?

I was expecting the song to have references and motiffs to shit from Megamind like Bad To The Bone, Highway To Hell, Welcome to the Jungle, etc, not some random and uninspired techo dance club type music. Is it a reference to something from the Megamind movies? I don't remember anything like that.

The ONLY thing I liked about the episode was the banter, which fit both characters, and the death, the anticlimax was funny on paper but it left me thinking it was a fakeout and Megamind would come back in the Black Mamba or Metro Suit. Now that I think about it the death isn’t as funny as I thought.

How do you **** up an AC/DC inspired track?

Genuinely though, if they do actually make Aki vs Megumi, I'm gonna get heated.

I like Megumi, I think he deserves W after all the slander, but putting him up against Aki borders on Gohan vs Invincible levels of "here just take the W and f*** off."

Both parties would come out of that looking like bums.
Ngl, I don't think they're ever gonna do Aki vs Megumi. They have little to no connections, and the masses aren't clamoring for it. I love both, but I don't think they'll ever be on DB since both verses have more requested peeps and they don't have good MU spreads.

Which sucks considering the bangers from both franchises.

Megamind vs Gru was pretty decent. The models are still wack but they're not as bad as I thought it'd be. Writing was ok. Choreography was pretty bland but the voice acting was decent. Gru using the minion to defend against the death beam and Megamind muttering was honestly the funniest bit to me. Ending was anti-climatic but I'd be lying if I said it didn't make me chuckle a bit.

I honestly can't believe they actually used "Megamind never uses the dehydration gun" as a wincon for Gru LMFAO 😭😭😭

6/10

IKR!? Like, regardless of how you feel about the Despicable Me franchise and later Megamind media, both those franchises have fantastic music both licensed and original to the movies. It makes me wonder why none of that was present in Despicable Minds.

Like think back to Iron Man vs Batman: Suit Yourself was a very well done song that combined the orchestral music of Batman and AC/DC of Iron Man seamlessly and was very catchy. Yet Despicable Minds? Nothing, nothing at all.

In the previews I was thinking that the Megamind fighting Gru in the first half of the battle was Minion in disguise and when he gets taken out the picture, the real Megamind shows up and fights Gru with all his mechs and gadgets and it would be awesome. How did I come up with a cooler thing than what actually happened in the episode?

Bro, most blogs came up with better research in the actual episode! This episode was just garbage through and through.

Does Thragg have any DB worthy MUs? Just thinking of characters I like where I actually wouldn't mind if they won or lost.

Honestly, I don't see Denji vs Yuji being that controversial if Yuji wins considering how Denji's own reputation has.... down spiraled to say the least.

The most we'll get is another recycling of "hurdurr powerscaling dumb" from the usual pretentious CSM fans lmfao.
Don't forget the fear-scaling crowd; "Yoru is multi-continental guys, trust me."

Anyways my issue
Megamind vs Gru was probably just filler for them to get to the real meat and potatoes of Denji vs Yuji lmfao
Imma be real with you chief if Denji vs Yuji is not a 8/10 episode particularly the fight itself?
We're going to have a ******* problem

Like if I'm not getting something challenge Cell vs Metal (7-8/10 fight) we're going to have a lot of discussions

Queen Chrysalis

I'm not joking it's better then "Evil Space Alien Dictator" like Zod

Both Thragg and Chrysalis are the ex leaders of their race, having taken over countless places as tyrants. They don't believe in bonds at all, their species turned on them and embraced love due to a trader (Throax/Omni-Man who both become the new more peaceful rulers), causing them to be exiled by their race, they come back for revenge making clones/kids (Mean Six/Thraggs kids), and in the end die/turned to stone because they kept refusing redemption, and kept fighting till the bitter end (Thragg fighting Mark in the Sun until he died/Queen Chrysalis, even with her power up gone lunged at our heroes in one last attempt to attack them even when being turned to stone)

In the end Queen Chrysalis wins and she wins on the same way of what she threatened to do to Spike but couldn't because of (plot armor) the shows rateing aka telekineticy rip thragg apart

Tldr Thragg dies the same way he tried to kill Mark

"Unto Elder Crone Magatha of the Grimtotem,
Acting Warchief of the Horde, Garrosh Hellscream, Sends his most sincere wishes for a slow and painful death.

It has come to my attention that you have deprived me of a rightful kill. Cairne Bloodhoof was a hero to the Horde and an honorable member of a usually honorable race. It is with disgust and anger that I discover you have caused me to bring about his death through accidental treachery.

Such tactics may work well for your renegade, honorless tribe and Alliance scum, but I despise them. It was my wish to fight Cairne fairly, and win or lose by my own skill or lack of it. Now I shall never know, and the cry of traitor will dog my steps until such time as I can sport your head on a pike and point to you as the real traitor.

So...no. I will not be sending any truehearted orcs to fight alongside your treacherous, belly-crawling tribe. Your victory or your defeat is in the hands of your Earth Mother now. Either way, I look forward to hearing of your demise.

You are on your own, Magatha, as friendless and disliked as you have ever been. Perhaps more. Enjoy your loneliness." ~ How my GOAT writes letters to people he hates

I'm not familiar with the character, but I really respect the effort here. And the connections sound great, too.

I genuinely do not think either the community or really some of the team have set themselves up a healthy enough ecosystem of discussion for wide spread backlash to an episode to be taken to heart and not make everyone involved defensive.

80% of the discourse is always hella obvious 'don't attack z' or 'don't blame y', and like yeah there bad apples in the fandom who don't conduct themselves well but it feels like the entire fandom is always on high alert because of debunk videos and general salt from verdicts that they are literally taking that shit home.

Discussion is dominated with 'can't believe how toxic we are being' when the backlash I see is soft as shit compared to a lot of other shit.

The fandom turns criticism into damning personal indictments of the team more than the actual shitheads they talk about.

When you create something and send it into the internet to be digested and discussed, you are opening yourself to criticism, and as unfair as it is to deal with the reality of the internet means that some of it is going to be shitty.

But dude I am tired of seeing this fandom go to war with itself every time they need to cover for a bad episode, and for what? The researchers and animators we so fervently defend still turn around and share sour grapes about how toxic we are.
