DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Honestly animation and visually, it's pretty damn solid. It's just that DA really needed a much better script or storyboard.

Although unlike the script, he made Kratos not get dmg at all, unlike Asura, hell for the episode to get more minutes to it then the average yet not feel like something was done with this or anything, its just uber weird
Yeah that's something I don't understand about Kratos vs Asura: most episodes, regardless if the research calls it a shit stomp, still has both characters doing equal damage to each other and stuff. But Kratos vs Asura? Kratos took no visual damage and he was completely overpowering Asura throughout the entire fight.

And it's not DA's fault, that would go to the storyboard writers. But it makes me wonder why no one noticed how Asura didn't have any visible advantages during the fight outside of speed.

Also another issue which should have been obvious when people were vot8ng for it to be done, Asura toolkit just isnt matching well with Kratos, its not like you cant do such fights, but not when one only punches and shoots projectiles at times vs a character with an arsenal of so many weapons

Because Asura has a whole lot of models dedicated to battle damage, whereas I assume Kratos would need to have blood drawn on his model or something.

On the topic of Kratos vs Asura, it's pretty funny how the new GOW game introduced lore making it so he now downscales from the primordials instead of upscaling lol.

What's the TLDR? I knew Sons of Sparta changed some lore from the past, but I don't know the specifics
Basically they've taken the whole thing about Cronos straight up overpowering Uranus in a one on one fight and made it more myth accurate, now the lore is Gaia gives Cronos the sickle and then he and his brothers wait until Uranus lets his guard down before ambushing him to castrate him.

There's still some form of scaling, Cronos' brothers were able to physically restrain Uranus long enough for Cronos to do his thing but it's pretty heavy downscaling instead of the old Kratos > Zeus > Cronos > Uranus chain that we and DB used.

I'm betting on them mostly sticking with 4-B but bringing up toei feats and universal scaling as high ends that still get trumped by the funny super form scaling

Yeah I get the feeling they may pull a similar route like with Simon vs Kyle.

Its still a crossover and they do it with literally anything they can
It’s still a crossover, sure, but the scale isn’t the same. Godzilla’s crossovers span multiple media and often include story integrations, while Fortnite’s are mostly guest appearances within a single game. It’s transmedia legacy vs. a single-platform crossover model.

no the **** it wasn't lol
just because the visuals looked good doesn't make the fight any better
Calm yourself, I said looked, and I did like the pure action Kratos unleashed. But I'm not saying it made the fight better.
not a good excuse regardless
Not an excuse, but I think it's a weak criticism to just single out KratoSura for having thar as an issue when many other episodes had the characters appear perfectly fine before and after the fact.

This is Asura's curse

Crack prediction: Cell gets a hold of the Emeralds in reference to this scene and accidentally becomes Super, nicknaming the form Golden Cell

"It’s surprisingly overpowered here, given how Metal Sonic could simply scan or take a good punch from Cell to get his hands on the bio-data he needs."

This part right here really highlights why Metal's going to win this fight for me: even if DB believes that Cell is faster and that they're equal in power (assuming they downplay Metal's scaling to Solaris), it's all moot in the end because Metal just needs to get punched once and Cell's bio data and abilities are copied mixed on top of Metal's own abilities. And considering the fact that Cell is someone who enjoys fighting and loves close quarters combat, Metal's going to get a bunch of chances to do just that.
Serious question. Why doesn't Metal Sonic do that in literally every single fight he's losing and automatically win? Why didn't he do that against Shadow in Shadow Generations? I understand Metal Overlord already had Shadow biodata but that was from a weaker version with less powers.

Writer's not understanding the abilities of their own characters. It happens alot across all sorts of franchises and its obnoxious.

I think Metal's biodata copy is only for Neo Metal. Otherwise its a humongous plothole lol
Yeah, although Metal still has a degree of copying as seen in Rivals for example, Neo's the one who has it to a crazy degree (though being able to copy Chaos Control and use it without an Emerald is insane).

Its not only that writers dont understand their characters power, but also most of the time balancing powers in a story is tough
Pretty much every high-end speedster in fiction is affected by "balance"

One day The Flash outspeeds Death another he gets frozen by Captain Cold, one day Quicksilver blitzes Nightcrawler another he get shot up by Deadpool, one day Sonic escapes black holes another he can't catch a 300lbs+ egg-shaped man, etc.

There will never be an IP with more crossovers than Godzilla frfr
Possibly Turns da Monica, @Omegabronic might elaborate on it...

The speedster curse at it again🥀

So I was watching Kratos vs Asura for ***** and giggles (I like watching random Death Battle episodes at least once a month), and there's something that really bugged me that makes me wonder if there's a lack of communication between the people who write the pre fight and post fight analysis and the people who write the fights themselves.

The thing that bugged me was how throughout most of Asura's analysis, they made it consistently clear that Asura doesn't let his rage consume him and is in control of it as he uses it to get stronger. But then in the fight, you have Kratos saying stupid shit like "You let your wrath consume you, I have been down that road before." And I don't know why, but that line actually irritates me because it contradicts what they were saying about Asura earlier. Plus, I didn't like how the fight made Asura fight like some mindless berserker when he's always been skilled even when punching shit.
hey funny i watched it yesterday too.

I feel like kratos didnt really.. do much
