I was wondering, do you think that for the DB they will get a new VA for Yugi, get Littlekuriboh/Martin Billany (the guy who made the Abridged Series) or they'll actually manage to get Dan Green?

I feel like they could , they still used Lani for all his Vegeta appearances (because dude is honestly just great as Vegeta, parody aside) I feel like LK could provide a serious enough portrayal of Yugi for the fight.

Of course then we have to hope and pray that all of Yugi's lines aren't Abridged references, which is a whoooooole other battle.

Yeah, Lani was particularly incredible as Vegeta in the battle against Thor. The sheer amount of emotion he can inject into the character.

Well, Martin did come back to voice Frieza in his fight with Megatron, and aside a couple of Frieza's lines at the beginning which felt like very Teamfourstar-ish snark, most of his dialogue was more in line with the DBZ dub. Martin has also shown to be able to put a great performance as Yugi in a more serious context, with good examples being Season 4 (especially the climax of the duel against Dartz).

I agree. It had its time and some series (like Sword Art Online Abridged) are able to basically make their own version of the story that's pretty compelling and good on its own. That's why I'm glad GvS3 and VvG was pretty bereft of it other than having Lani reprise his role. The Abridged guys have shown they can actually act, so I don't mind them voicing the characters as long as the writing is good.

It's easy to just pingeonhole him as Atem or Kaiba since those are the most memetic of the cast, but he has some pretty memorable performances here and there that aren't comedic ones.

I see your point. While I still enjoy the jokes and memes of from DBZ and YGO Abridged, it does get exhausting that the Abridged fans keep trying to bring them as legitimate canon. DBZ in particular can get frustrating with their take on Goku. That said, I think it's harmless to bring the abridged VAs given they provide similar to canon and iconic voices on their own right for the most part, as long as they don't write characters as their abridged counterparts solely for the VA.

I get your irritation, but I'd say that it's mostly in Death Battle that things turned out so poorly in many ways, be it writting taking more of the Abridged series, the limitless supes thing or wonky research. The abridged VAs just got their lines and that's about it. And being honest, powerscaling is pretty big on pwerscaling, which leads to having some pretty nasty apples there, so even without the Abrdiged VAs they would still be giving Goku crap, hell, had Goku won there would be complaints because Superman lost. Which in itself is another topic, Death Battle gives superheroes their highest possible end nowadays.

Sadly, I think what also plays into Sean's and many other's annoyance is that fans of those series prop them up as the "best" or "definitive" version of it (something Team Four Star openly speak against). I mean, you can criticize and dislike SAO, DBZ and the like, it's completely valid, but making a tweaked version of an existing story isn't making a better one. The story, the characters, the setting, all the elements are already laid out for you to use and you also have fandom discussions, hindsight and criticisms the work has already received to know what to do. The hard part is coming from the ground up with everything.

I agree with Sean on Ash vs Yugi. Like I said in the Discord, I think Yugi will be exposed as a fraud just like Giorno, Kyle, and Fraudzilla.

Kyle is a fraud of all people? Like, I can't speak of Ash vs Yugi, and won't really say much on Godzilla since I'm not a fan of composites and know squat about Ultima, but they did say that GER and Kyle were stupidly overpowered, just that Ren and Simon were moreso.

There is a youtube channel which reacts to Death Battle too, they seen DBZA also, up to cell saga till watching the official thing from buu saga, although things like "power levels are bullshit" along how early Death Battle bought into that has kinda poisoned the mind in that regard

Track Name: From Adam To Mary (Or whatever that would be in Latin or German)​

• Both are running commentaries on the psychiatry of their respective worlds. Shion helping VECTOR with KOS-MOS / The Zohar Project, and having her own... questionable mental state, whereas Maruki is effectively the pioneer of Cognitive Psience off the back of Wakaba Isshki, and wants to go through with the actualisation because of his own trauma regarding Rumi and the people that shat on him for the prospect of his research.
• This relation is also its own contrast in a sense. Look at Sumire's arc, and tell me there isn't a version of Shion's character that wouldn't end up as one of Maruki's victims.
• Both characters are buffers for the greatest god tiers in their respective universes. Shion ends up as the Maiden of Mary in no small part due to the pendant Kevin gave her, while Azatoth/Adam Kadmon are Maruki's Personas, and occurred to him as a result of his research into the Metaverse.
• Needless to say, both have also suffered the greatest losses in their lives. Shion saw Kevin die right in front of her eyes, only for him to return a Testament (I'm not getting into the 'abusive ex' angle here, that's for the Saga retrospective), whereas (again) Rumi's memory was effectively scrubbed by Azatoth, leaving her the same as 'dead' in Maruki's life.
• Both end their arcs having 'moved on', Shion on the search for Lost Jerusalem having accepted Kevin's second death after defeating Wilhelm and suppressing Zarathustra (and hooking up with Allen), and Maruki, after the collapse of his Palace becoming... a taxi driver, of all things.
• Both are 1-C range depending on how much you want to wank these characters, or how much you buy the verses are that powerful.
