Tears of the Kingdom Spoilers Thread

Quick question fellas, do I just stick all the Malice stuff into the same tab as Ganondorfs normal abilities or do I keep that shit in a different tabber.

I mean we curarently have "Dark Beast Ganon" scaling to Demise because "reincarnation of his hatred" as a reason
Actually just noticed but if we used current scaling we'd end up with Dark Beast Ganon being stronger than Demise, since it's base Ganondorf that's currently Demise level with DB Ganon being higher, which obviously is bullshit on both fronts but that's still funny.

so like now that I have all these calcs done am I good to put them up for evaluations or are there more that are missing?

actually wait nvm there are a some more but we already have a decent amount

tbf, it’s consistent with Dark Beast Ganon being complete unharmed by the Master Sword while Demise can be harmed by it

Ganon's always been weak to purification attacks like the silver and light arrows.

Also Zelda takes to many Ls to be a Mary sue tbh

The closest thing to an "L" she's taken is when she stands there completely still while Link does everything.

Get's shat on by her dad for not awakening her Sealing Power, repeatedly fails to awaken said power and ends up watching her kingdom go to shit, can't even fully put down Calamity Ganon by herself and has to keep him tethered to the castle and wait for Link to help out 100 years later, loses those powers after BOTW and only gets them back after a special god stone ends up in her possession, fails to protect queen Sonia and watches her die after Ganondorf marks her, gets shit stomped by Ganondorf a few days later, has to spend over 10,000 years as a dragon just so she can be a battery for a sword that Link will use to beat Ganondorf.

Truly a mary sue if I ever saw one 🗿

Sure, if you completely reword everything and leave out context and how it affected her it sounds like she had a tough life.

Mary sue: A character portrayed as inexplicably competent across all domains, gifted with unique talents or powers, liked or respected by most other characters, unrealistically free of weaknesses, extremely attractive, innately virtuous, and/or generally lacking meaningful character flaws.
If she awakening her powers before the world she knew was destroyed sure but she didn't.

Almost all of those things pretty much describe BotW Zelda. Just because she went "WHERE ARE MY LIGHT POWERS!?!?" doesn't mean she's not basically treated as flawless in the story, especially when she got her light powers via asspull.

flawless in the story
Not only did she fail in the story, her father and others all expressed doubt in her ability to truly awaken. Even in stuff like AoC she herself expresses frustration with how useless she is to the cause and how everyone is doing more than she is.

She still got her powers in an asspull. And the very first thing she does in Age of Calamity is decide to start using the Sheikah Slate better than Link ever has in canon, with runes she canonically had no way of getting by then. Later on she steals the Master Cycle Zero too and is handed better models than in canon.

Yeah cool she awakened her powers in her most desperate time of need, that means what besides the timing of her awakening? I dunno about you but constantly and miserably failing to do something most people expect you to do for years and only achieving it after it would've been useful, being unable to finish the job anyway, and then going back in time to get curb stomped by Ganondorf isn't what a mary sue is. If she just effortlessly gained her powers whenever she felt like getting them, effortlessly stopped the calamity while everyone kept going on and on about cool she is, and then kept being cool and overpowered while nothing could really stop her then yeah she'd be a mary sue. Thankfully she's written much better than that when you actually, y'know, play the games.

She still got her powers in an asspull.
Yeah so? Lots of characters, many of which also aren't mary sues, get powers in an asspull. It's not even like it was a overly useful asspull it barely let her delay (Not defeat) Ganon's rampage after he'd already murked like half the population.

And the very first thing she does in Age of Calamity is decide to start using the Sheikah Slate better than Link ever has in canon
Literally everyone uses the Sheikah Slate better than Link did in BOTW, including Link himself.

Later on she steals the Master Cycle Zero too and is handed better models than in canon.
Again what about this makes her a mary sue? Oh she gets a bonus little thing in a spin off musou game that can do more than it can in the main games because of the massive gameplay differences.

Like bro, in a franchise filled to the brim with Links who can hold a stick for like 2 minutes and suddently become far more skilled than trained knights why are you harping on a character well known for constantly struggling with 90% of what she does?

Curse my desperation to be right at all times, this was just supposed to be a one-off quip

The timing of her awakening was almost the entire issue. She did gained her powers whenever she felt like getting them, just not effortlessly. Just because you can't do a thing that nobody else in the verse can either doesn't keep you from being a mary sue.

Not in Legend of Zelda. Heck, not even most Zeldas get asspulls.
Literally everyone uses the Sheikah Slate better than Link did in BOTW, including Link himself.
They get 4 unique Sheikah Slate-themed abilities, the Sheikah Slate is literally her whole weapon. Including those themed abilities.
Again what about this makes her a mary sue? Oh she gets a bonus little thing in a spin off musou game that can do more than it can in the main games because of the massive gameplay differences.
She literally gets handed stuff that belongs to Link (though Super Smash Bros and the first Hyrule Warriors does this too), and is even given better models that are several times stronger that he's never had.

It actually takes about 1 or 2 Dungeons for him to get stronger than the knights. Rey is a mary sue but she struggles a lot.

except she didn't just feel like getting them at that moment, it was basically raw instinct, gaining powers because love is a kinda meh and overdone trope and I agree it's an asspull, but given everything surrounding it I'd have a hard time trying to see how it can be a notable enough thing to add to Zelda being a mary sue.

Not in Legend of Zelda. Heck, not even most Zeldas get asspulls.
Yeah and, it being the Legend of Zelda doesn't mean much. Like ok cool there's not as many asspulls in this series as like, I dunno, some random shonen, and after being a massive girlfailure for 17 years she gets an asspull to end up...

...unable to do anything besides delay Ganon long enough for Link to be the big hero and help her out. Very cool.

They get 4 unique Sheikah Slate-themed abilities, the Sheikah Slate is literally her whole weapon. Including those themed abilities.
Well yeah what did you want the developers to do? It's a warriors game they had to give her something to use as a moveset would you have preferred to have her cower and scream for Link or Urbosa to save her whenever a bokoblin gets within 20 feet of her? Also forget her using it better than Link, she uses it better than herself considering all BOTW Zelda figured out with it was taking pictures,. Plus like I said, everyone and their mother uses the Sheikah Slate far better than BOTW Link ever did, including Ganon and he doesn't even canonically have one.

She literally gets handed stuff that belongs to Link (though Super Smash Bros and the first Hyrule Warriors does this too), and is even given better models that are several times stronger that he's never had.
It's only several times stronger than anything he's ever had because of the type of game, like no shit it's gonna be better in a game where you gotta cut down 100 monsters every 10 seconds. Also the only thing she gets that originally belong to Link was a motor cycle, and like, ok? Instead of giving Link his 5th moveset or whatever they just gave Zelda the cycle so she can have a third one. It's not even like it's a major story mode thing it's a cool little bonus and nothing else.

It actually takes about 1 or 2 Dungeons for him to get stronger than the knights.
in the first game Link (completely unarmed) fends off several of Ganons minions before he even steps foot into the cave that has his first sword, in ALTTP a fresh outta bed Link who holds a sword for a grand total of a few seconds is superior to any of the guards he comes across when saving Zelda, TP Link after basic practice with some children and straw dummies goes on to murk a giant plant monster in the first dungeon while the knights run with their tails between their legs when the prospect of fighting bolbins is brought up. BOTW Link outclasses any knight in Hyrule and gets the Master Sword when he's 12 or 13.

My man if you're gonna slander any character in this franchise why not choose someone lame, like Vaati.

We should all just start dunking on that little purple freak.

Almost all of those things pretty much describe BotW Zelda. Just because she went "WHERE ARE MY LIGHT POWERS!?!?" doesn't mean she's not basically treated as flawless in the story, especially when she got her light powers via asspull.
Wasn't her ******* up and not being able to do it what directly lead to Link dying, all her friends dying, being unable to stop Ganon, and having to put a bandaid on it instead after who the **** knows how many died, the central town was overtaken, and the world had to live with being unable to do much because if you go for a walk you might get drive by'd by a ******* Metal Gear? Even though if she just listened or had her powers when she should have, that all could have been avoided?

And then we have Zelda 1, ALTTP, OOT, WW, PH, ST, SS and mre where uh, ngl bro she's kinda useless. Except in ST where she's actually cool and useful (all while she's ******* dead because she cant do shit on her own).

Vaati if he was the main villain in other Zelda games:
  • The Legend of Zelda: Dies once Link gets the wooden sword
  • Adventure of Link: Dies once Link leaves hyrule castle at the start of the game
  • A Link to the Past: Dies once Link gets out of bed and throws a pot at him
  • Link's Awakening: Dies in the same storm that Link gets caught in at the start of the game
  • Ocarina of Time: Dies when Navi bumps into him while looking for Link
  • Majora's Mask: Dies when he tries to steal Epona from Link
  • Oracles of Ages / Oracle of Seasons: Dies when he tries to kidnap Din/Nayru
  • Wind Waker: Dies when the Tetra pirates hit him with a cannon ball at the start of the game
  • Twilight Princess: Dies once Link gets the wooden stick
  • Phantom Hourglass: Dies when Link and Linebeck ram into him with their boat
  • Spirit Tracks: Dies when Link and Zelda ram into him with their train
  • Skyward Sword: Dies when Groose body slams him
  • A Link Between Worlds: Dies when the guard captain finds him in the church
  • Tri Force Heroes: Dies when the 3 Links roll up in goron costumes and beat him to death
  • Breath of the Wild: Dies when Link wakes up and picks up a branch
  • Age of Calamity: Dies when a random knight accidentally hits him instead of a bokoblin
  • Tears of the Kingdom: Dies when he fails to shatter the Master Sword and is insta killed by Link with a branch

Normal hylians as shown in BOTW can survive being hit by Bokoblins and will get up after a few seconds, tbh I don't think Vaati would survive those same attacks

Calc the Sky Island's PE and LS :)

Also only the castle would scale to Ganondorf the islands were in the sky way before that happened
