Ampharos (Pokémon, Composite) VS. Garnet (Steven Universe)

(Ampharos' page is empty when it comes to wins/losses)

Both are at 7A. Speed is equalized. The battle takes place in a wide, open field. Neither side gets prep. They start 25ft. apart. They are both in-character.

Ampharos: 0

Garnet: 3 (CinnabarManx421, TheArsenal1212, WeeklyBattles)

Yeah going with Ampharos. Much more varied arsenal, can cause Garnet serious issues with paralysis, even burn if need be. Even if Garnet avoids the electric attacks, she's gonna need many hits to beat down the Pokémon in which she will eventually be static'd. Cotton spite slows Garnet down even more and growl can nullify her attacks to essentially drain Garnet of any threat. Then Amphy can just finish her off with some strong thunderbolts to the gem

@Arsenal None of Ampharos' electric attacks will do anything to Garnet as she no-sells electricity, including Ampharos' paralysis inducing Thunder Wave

@WeeklyBattles, how would Mega Ampharos make it a stomp? I know it's an increase in power, but still not that much, right?

@Shocking Mega Pokemon are High 7-A because they absolutely thrash normal 7-A pokemon which are a bit stronger than Garnet, yes it would be a stomp

Basically over half of Ampharos' moveset is completely and totally useless against Garnet as she resists both electricity and extreme heat, meaning Ampharos' bread and butter electric attacks as well as its fire attacks are useless, the rest of its ranged moves are entirely capable of being dodged, the rest of its damaging moves involve cqc which would be a death sentence against someone with as much skill and combat experience as Garnet. The only thing that leaves Ampharos are its stat moves, all of which are able to be dodged, even stuff like Growl and Screech which as shown by both the mang aand anime are projectile soundwaves, and stuff like Agility would be precoged by Garnet so she knows to take amphy down before it gets too fast for her to deal with.

I'll wait for what others have to say for ampharos because i know pokemon have some insane stuff but im leaning garnet right now

Might be jumping the gun a lil bit but I'm gonna vote Garnet here. Her experience/skill edge definetly land her a great advantage here, and Weekly pretty much summed up why Garnet resists Ampharos's attacks for me, so yeah, voting Garnet.

One thing to point out, all of Garnet's attacks are CQC, correct? Wouldnt that leave Garnet open to Ampharos' CQC since speed is equalized? Ampharos has Thunderpunch, Dragon Pulse and Power Gem, which would keep Garnet at bay. Does Garnet have any projectiles?

She has projectile attacks in the form of being able to launch her gauntlets as rockets, and can do so numerous tmes in rapid succession, and the ability to stretch her body to several hunderd meters in length

I... don't know what CWC is admittedly but Garnet does have Ranged options. Namely;

  • Rocket Gauntlet: Garnet takes aim with her gauntlets and shoots them as projectiles in "Watermelon Steven". In "Reformed", after Garnet launches her gauntlets, her hands are detached from her body, and her gemstones are moved to the stubs of her arms.
  • Sonic Gauntlets: As seen in "Gem Harvest", Garnet can pound her gauntlets into something and create a sonic wave strong enough to make something, such as carrots, fly out of the ground.
  • Quake: Garnet smashes her fists into the ground, causing an earthquake to knock enemies back.
  • Electric Jump: In "When It Rains", Garnet uses her electrokinesis on the offensive for the second time, generating electricity and releasing it on impact with the ground, while the energy then travels to the target. This particular move is long-ranged.

Ampharos also has moves to work around Garnet's offense.

Cotton Spore: Ampharos releases cotton like spores to stick onto the opponent and sharply slow them down.

Charge: Ampharos charges its power, which raises its special defense and makes the next electric move it uses do double damage.

Discharge: Ampharos discharges, creating an omnidirectional wave of electricity. This has a chance to paralyze.

Cotton Guard: Ampharos covers its body in soft cotton, drastically raising physical defense.

Confuse Ray: Ampharos emits an odd light that confuses the target.

Flash: Ampharos emits a bright light that can blind the opponent

Cotton Spore is dodgeable

Charge is useless as Garnet resists electricity

Discharge is useless as Garnet resists electricity

Confuse Ray gets precoged and Garnet closes her eyes

Flash gets precoged and Garnet closes her eyes

However, Ampharos could use Cotton Guard until Garnet's basic punches (her main way of fighting) have little effect. Then, using Dragon Pulse, Giga Impact, or Tackle to take her down? Also, Ampharos can use Attract, if this Ampharos was male, would Attract work on Garnet?

I know the whole Ruby and Sapphire thing, but Attract works when, for example, a male pokémon uses it on a female, who then goes into a distracted and immobilized state. And Garnet is technically female, so a male Ampharos could potentially succeed with Attract, right?

Who knew this conversation would come to this.

Ahhhh she no sells electricity? Didn't know that. Admittedly not that knowledgeable on the verse. Garnet takes it then. Way more experienced, has counters for the rest of Ampharos' status Inducement and is significantly better up close

However, the Cotton Guard suggestion still stands.
Yeah but it's kinda a crapshoot for the Pokemon to know if that'd be sucessful or not. It's more likely it'd end up using a move that wouldn't work and get killed.

Now the question is, could Garnet damage Ampharos? He has Protect, Cotton Guard, Rest, and Sleep Talk so Garnet would have trouble getting a hit on him just as much as he would to her. And Mega Evolution is still a factor.

>Protect, Rest, and Sleep Talk

Uh Ampharos doesnt learn any of those moves

Also, againl, Mega Evolution makes it a stomp

I'm assuming using a pokémon in a debate doesn't include the "Only 4 moves" thing in the games. They can have more than 4 in the anime, so I guess that's what we're baseing it off of.

Yes they have all their moves but Ampharos cant learn Protect, Rest, or Sleep Talk unless its through a TM which we dont allow

Also, again, Mega Evolution makes it a stomp

How much of a difference would Mega Evolution make? Isn't just a slight power boost? It would make Dragon Pulse stronger due to the Dragon typing. What could Garnet not handle with Mega Ampharos but handle with base Ampharos?

So base Ampharos gets beaten, but Mega doesn't? I didn't include fusions for Garnet since that would require a second fighter on her side and it's not something she alone can do. However, pokémon have been shown to mega without trainers before. Since the prompt says that Ampharos can go mega whenever it needs, is that your vote?

Also Arsenal switched his vote to Garnet, you should probably update the OP.
