It depends on the very nature of the attack.
If that "soul crush" happens from something like a shot or a hit, then GER can avoid it as it would return to the moment before the attack.
If it is a thought attack, it will be difficult, because if GER notices the attack, he can return it to its starting point.

This is pretty blatantly not true when you remember the fact he was affected by Time Skip and RTZ kicked in the moment he would've been harmed and nullified that without any cognizant input from Gio or GER
