Rest in Peace, Akira Toriyama

RIP Akira Toriyama. I am admittedly not a mega Dragon Ball fan like some, but I do recognize its impact on the Anime/Manga community and the world as a whole. He will definitely be missed and remembered as one of the most inspirational and influential people of all time.

To be honest, when I read that I couldn't believe it, it was as if someone in my family had died. I grew up with the works that this legend put into the world, my most precious memories were of being a hyperactive child, imitating moves I saw on TV. Watching Dragon Ball GT and singing the opening together.

This guy's influence transcends the bubble of anime, manga and any other work of this kind. How many people wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the magic that this work brought into their lives? If this man's genius hadn't reached the whole world?

My favorite works were inspired by Akira Toriyama. My childhood memories that I hold close to my heart only exist because of him. I was always a child and a teenager reclusive in my room, rarely leaving the house, but I remember always going to the public library after school just to read the Dragon Ball and Hunter x Hunter manga.

More than ever, the scene at the end of GT represents how we feel about the man who was Akira Toriyama, the GOAT of shounen manga and anime. Rest in peace, your departure hurt too much, and I make Eichiro Oda's words my own, may the heaven you are in be as pleasant as the heaven you brought to life in your work.

Hearing this song made me cry way harder than it should've.

This is heartbreaking. Even as someone who didn’t watch Dragon Ball until I was an adult, it’s hard to overstate how big Toriyama’s impact on my childhood was. Dragon Quest/Warrior got me into gaming, and pretty much defined my love for fantasy. Blue Dragon was the series that really got me to start searching out more anime beyond what I could find on TV. And beyond his direct works, most of the shows I watched, stories I read, and games I played growing up were inspired by his works.

Rest in Peace Toriyama. Your contributions to this world will never be forgotten.

I have been looking at the news for an hour…

I didn’t know what to say and how to react to this when it was shown to me.

Akira Toriyama’s greatest work, Dragon Ball, has a massive impact on everyone… on my life. I can proudly say that a lot of my achievements in life can be attributed to it thanks to the messages about dedication and hard work it instilled in me at a young age.

Only God knows what kind of person I would’ve been without him. My stubbornness, my Art, The fact that I watch anime to begin with, the desire to succeed in anything I do no matter the odds and my outlook on life at a young age that carried me to who I am now all came from this Man. Some of these attributes are reflected in the things I’ve done in this site and powerscaling community as a whole.

I love you Akira Toriyama, and I’ve always wanted to meet you… in this life. I guess I will have to wait until the next. Thank you.

This scene, this Ending, this Ending Song has always had me on a chokehold when I was a little kid. Relistening and rewatching this again really really hurts. It genuinely feels like I've lost someone close to me, someone who's been with me since the very beginning.

I am deeply saddened to get this news. I always knew a day will come when the great man will pass away but I never thought it will be so sudden, so soon, and that it will hurt this much. This man has touched the lives of so many people around the world, it's crazy. If you are here and reading this, somewhere or the other this man is responsible for it. Directly or indirectly, he is one of the main reasons for this platform to flourish, for powerscaling to have grown so much and for the existence of this community, for all of us to be here.

Words won't do justice. I don't want us to be sad. I just want that his work continues to inspire the hearts of billions of youth like it has for us. I want his work to always be an inspiration to us all that no matter what, we can face whatever comes our way!

Thank you, Akira Toriyama! I'm forever indebted to you!

I don't think it can be overstated how much of a profound cultural impact Toriyama had. He practically defined the battle shonen genre and his work's popularity surpassed generational and international gaps. Even those with virtually no knowledge or understanding of anime and manga have at least heard of Goku. He's an icon similar to Superman and Bugs Bunny. Dragon Ball personally inspired me to be a healthier and overall better human being, and I cannot thank Toriyama enough for that. This news is absolutely heartbreaking, but at least his memory lives on through the millions upon millions of people whose lives he's touched. It's hard to think of a better legacy for someone to leave behind.

we received the news a week earlier in the hospital i work in due to some connections to Japan and ireland reviews and training sections we had with em, although posted it was first signed as coma but then pronounced dead hours later, the training section was for acute liver diseases although this have nothing to do with how he died the author akira toriyama died from a head injury in his brain, and loss of blood transmission to the brain this disease is actually deadly in on its own but oh well, when i got the news on my desk i was ******** fire out of my eyes, he was a very kind hearted person, but he fought the problem by himself until sasuke was the one who brought him, well that's what i was told a week ago, hearing it now all over the world didn't surprise me, it was surprising why the information was held until today ..... Rip legend you'll be in our hearts always

Whenever I came home from school back in the day, episodes from the OG Martial Arts tournaments would be playing on repeat every single day, in particular Goku vs Krillin, but every single day and every single time I enjoyed watching those same episodes and that same fight, it never got old. And well my Dragon Ball "journey" went on from there. Thank you for everything, the GOAT, Toriyama.

It’s thanks to Akira that I found this amazing anime that would be known throughout generations for its greatness. I’ll never forget all the times I was hyped watching the anime. I’m….I’m going to miss this guy so ******* much and I hope y’all are preparing yourself now….cause that means we are at the stage where the cast we love so much are gonna be leaving us

RIP and thank you for everything Akira Toriyama

You know someone is truly a respected and influential figure, when even long inactive/retired staff and users alike have returned to show their love of the worlds Akria Toriyama created as well as the admiration of the man who defined the childhoods of millions of people from across dozens of cultures, countries and walks of life.

I don't know what else to say, that hasn't already been said by my peers (both here and all across the world). May Akira's legacy continue to live on through the hearts and minds of everyone touched by his art.

Absolutely devastating. Not only to communities like ours, or to the anime community in general, but to the whole world. Toriyama was an inspiration in so many ways to so many people, and his work has continued to leave a legacy that will last forever.

Some of my favorite series of all time took great inspiration from his work, and he’ll continue to inspire many more even after his passing. Rest easy Toriyama-Sensei, we’ll do like you taught us, and go even further beyond.

Forever grateful to Toriyama, his influence, and his legacy 🔥 without his encouragement Bleach would have never been published, and without Bleach I would’ve likely never met all the wonderful people and friends here. So in a way, thanks Toriyama for helping me make all these amazing friendships 💪 RIP

I do not fear this new challenge. Rather like a true warrior I will rise to meet it.” – Vegeta
