Fly high Toriyama, I hope you realise just how many lives were touched by your creations including me for the better. You may be gone but your legacy is something that will never die.
 
Toriyama influenced more people than he could have ever known, in ways he could likely hardly imagine. I can't speak on his behalf of what his life meant to him, but in terms of the impacts of his life on others, there are rarely people who make quite as much meaning out of their lives as he did. May he rest in peace.
 
Akira Toriyama... You made one of the best franchise in history that this world has seen... I was recovering from a horrible accident till i received your passing away news... It was a pure devastation for me to go through but i'm a strong man... Like Goku... So i won't give up... I wish you good life in heaven and thanks for giving us this beautiful franchise to enjoy... What his works did for fiction can't be overstated and that legacy will live forever. Whether you like DB, don't care about it or even hate the works, many other series from similar or different genres had influence or inspiration from it. That inspiration in turn influenced others indirectly.

His fame also opened the door for lots of franchises that wouldn't have seen the light of day. Rest in peace, Akira.

This was honestly a horrible way for me to start the day. I essentially woke up to this news, and I've been devastated ever since. I had barely gotten over Kentaro Miura's passing (the author of Berserk, for those of you who don't know, and an absolute legend in his own right), and now this happens...

Akira Toriyama was a truly special man. Most of us live out our lives, unsure of what our purpose in this world is. We live on not knowing whether our lives will mean something when all's said and done. Not knowing whether we'll be remembered, and whether our life's work will have any sort of impact. We all strive towards that, to some extent. It's about as close as we can get to true Immortality.

Make no mistake, this man will be remembered for generations to come, as his impact is truly monumental. It is no exaggeration to say that Akira Toriyama's work, especially Dragon Ball, is responsible for the current landscape of anime and manga being what it is. The Big Three (HST) would literally not be a thing without Toriyama-Sensei inspiring Kishimoto, Oda, and Kubo respectively - something they've all attested to on numerous occasions. It is actually difficult to put into words how monumentally influential he was on anime and manga. Dragon Ball is, without a doubt, the most iconic and popular animanga franchise in the world. Its impact on pop culture is insane, and you'd be hard pressed to find someone who hasn't been exposed to the series in some capacity.

A friend of mine said something today, and is absolutely true. Toriyama is the George Lucas of anime and manga. Dragon Ball's influence is comparable to Star Wars in their respective fields, and their enduring popularity that never seems to wane is also a testament to how timeless they are as pieces of media. Toriyama is also singlehandedly responsible for popularizing anime and manga to a world wide audience, not just in the West. The WHOLE world.

His impact reached Video Games, and Pop Culture as a whole as well. Truly, what a magnificent legacy he has left behind. He has brought joy to, probably, hundreds of millions of souls in this dark, dark world, and for that we should all be eternally grateful. While the flesh and blood may perish, his spirit will live on forever through his work, and will continue to inspire artists for generations to come. Toriyama-Sensei's true legacy will never be gone, and will never be forgotten.

Toriyama-Sensei.......Thank you. Truly. Thank you for bringing me joy and excitement throughout my childhood, all the way to my adulthood. Thank you for creating these whacky, fun, bizarre worlds that you to us on mesmerizing adventures on. Thank you for inspiring some of my favorite artists to create some of my favorite pieces of media of all time. Most of all, thank you for being you, always and unapologetically. Truly an inspiration, and a living legend in our hearts and minds, always.

Also wanted to share Masashi Kishimoto's eulogy, because it nearly brought me to tears. Most prevalent Mangaka have also made such statements, if you wish to give them a look.
And I dare you to listen to this now without shedding a tear...
 
I have no words, nothing to express how shocking this news was too me. This dude singlehandedly created my entire love for Japan. It was his show tht taught me soo much about determination, hard work ethics, kindness, respect, peace within oneself, to love food nd so much more.

Even to this day, he been a part of my life nd mannn..

This man was a treasure beyond his years. He created everything off the cuff. Every single thing u see him make(dragon ball, sand land, dragon quest nd etc) was allll off the dome. He did tht nd still became the literal Goat of Manga and anime because of dragon ball.

I can't say much more than what has already been said, but I feel it's right to say my piece; Akira Toriyama has undoubtably had a major impact on not just Anime, and Manga, but entertainment as a whole, reaching hundreds of millions worldwide, myself included. Even though he may be gone, I'm confident his influence will remain for centuries to come.

RIP Toriyama. Cannot even begin to describe how much of an impact Dragon Ball, Dr Slump, and Toriyamas works have had on the world as a whole. I know it was laughed at at the time but when world govts have to act on your behalf that shows just how impactful those works were on the world. The world would literally be a different if not darker place without Akira Toriyamas cheery, fun and relatable manga in our hearts and minds. The world will never forget him.

I think about this quote of Death from the Discworld series often. Fantasy, and fiction in general really, inspires us. It molds us, stays with us beyond the formative years during which we're exposed to it. It shapes our ideals, and our paths of everyday life, perhaps now more than ever before. Even to the same degree as our own real life experiences do, sometimes.

I no longer care about Dragon Ball as a piece of entertainment. My tastes long outgrew most of its current productions. But I cannot deny the influence, big and small, it's had on a good chunk of media I partake in, or the fact that it was among the first animated series I can remember watching. Out of any of Japan's modern artists I can think of maybe one other individual who has been as influential as Akira Toriyama when it comes to landscape of anime/manga, and a lot of the media landscape of the wider world as well.

Personally speaking, this news did not impact me much emotionally, not nearly to the same extent as others anyway. Perhaps I ought not to speak on it at all. But it is never a good time when we lose an author and a legend on this scale. His contributions to the imaginative world of mankind will be remembered for a very, very long time.

Fare thee well, Mr. Toriyama.

My older siblings and cousins who were all 90’s kids all grew up with Dragon Ball. I as well, have admire Dragon Ball.

Akira Toriyama was the first manga artist to ever appreciate and gain inspiration from Chinese culture. I always wish there’ll be more people like him.

Rest in peace and fly high, Mr. Toriyama, thank you for giving me and my brothers a childhood. I hope the Gods of Creation awaits you.
 
As much as I don't like powerscaling Dragon Ball, I still have some degree of childhood when I used to watch Dragon Ball Z Kai, and played some of the games back in the days. But this is very unfortunate to hear, and he has my condolences.
 
This man created, in my eyes, the most influential anime of all time. The Shonen genre wouldn't be what it is today without Dragon Ball.

This show had a huge impact on black people like me, and it taught us great lessons about fighting for our dreams and chasing our goals. DBZ Kai was my childhood, and this franchise will always have a special place in my heart.

on a serious note,like many authors and mangakas akira toriyama is a someone whom i always respected and whom i will never forget, i always knew this day was coming and experiencing the death of the man who brightened my childhood with his creation pains my heart

Still in shock over the news. Toriyama has had such an influence on me and I can’t imagine what my life would be like if I never got into Dragon Ball by complete chance when I was 10 and I saw a video about Battle of Gods come into my recommended.

I’ll forever be grateful for Toriyama and his art. Rest in Piece to the master.
