DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Tbh, this whole capeshit wankage is due to DB researchers. The Ultraguy blogs roughly mentioned that "everyone lowballs comics, but we fixed that". We know Researchers read these threads, (since they post here lol) so good job there.

More bafflingly rereading HulkBroly section Tipper showed, maybe DB Researchers dont buy Outer stuff for most of them? Its why most of the big shit is in black boxes. Even SimonKyle didnt actually talk about Outer stuff outright. Hulk's preview tbh kinda didnt make the First Firmanent chains that impressive since they didnt mention anything about its Outer implications.

I'm so glad VSBW doesn't have capeshit at Outerversal. It gets so hard to argue with people about matchups when they keep parroting that characters are Outerversal for reasons they themselves can't explain.

Like I know Kyle has been overshadowed by the other GLs especially as of recent years and he obviously isn't that popular outside of superhero fandom, but the way y'all talk about him makes you think like he appeared for less than 10 issues and then faded into obscurity or some shit.

Like I'm not denying that a lot of people likely don't even read his comics and primarily use him for agenda but idk why y'all surprised that the primary people talking about him are capeshit fans.

I'm not a fan of Goji's preview ngl. The composite feels weird from a story/character standpoint.
It is, and I'm not the biggest fan of composites unless both opponents are, but it's kinda whatever at this point. Either he takes the composite or he gets slammed because Ultima is quitely honestly his only wincon outside of crossovers.

How many people do actually buy comics roughly monthly/per issue? Wasnt Kyle's debut after comics duo started to crash in 90s?

“Because [community of thousands of people] actively see things just this one way” is not a legitimate line of reasoning, especially in a community where there’s no centralized authority besides the culture formed from what’s actually written.
So we're just excluding the rules and content bans, dozens of pages of writing guidelines, the staff-backed vetting process then?
I also wouldn’t expect the claim to be made that there isn’t legitimacy in being part of the fandom in having truthfully beaming interest in the stories being written while also actively using them for powerscaling means, and would respectfully remind you of the irony of such an attempted exclusion also extending to someone like yourself.
How does it extend to me exactly?

Idk how that correlates to my point?

He was the main Green Lantern up until the early 2000s, like a solid decade. It's only after like 2004/2005 where he began to fade into supporting cast because DC decided to promote Hal Jordan and John Stewart as their main Lantern.

Even so, Kyle has still consistently reappeared in Green Lantern comics either as a supporting cast or a deuteragonist, and from time to time, has still had his own fair share of spotlight stories even in the past decade.

Because Kyle being a nobody can be a thing, if no one actually reads those comics. Its pretty obvious that comics are more known through other stuff. DCAU & MCU are blatantly waaaaaay more talked about outside of VS circles.

Ofc, its been a while so I forgot numbers. I think 90s comics did sell better, 100k+ copies per issue? But havent sales fallen such that an average Marvel/DC comic doesnt sell 100k+ per issue? Ofc I believe they both have subscriptions to read comics through apps, which would muddy numbers, unless we know how many people subscribe to those. But the point is, if the number of people who read comics is low, Kyle, who has not had other major appearances, can be a nobody.

I mean if we're talking general audience, yeah obviously, because even if we put comic sales aside, DC hasn't promoted Kyle as the main GL since over two decades. Of course he'd fade into obscurity from the view of someone who doesn't read comics. But this viewpoint can frankly be used for many other characters who are mainly popular only within their fandoms and not outside of it.

But the point I'm making is that the guy is still relatively popular within DC fandom spaces. I'm just saying y'all shouldn't be too surprised that the main people talking about him happen to be comic fans.

My point is that unless you combine DC comics & other media fandoms together, there is a chance that just DC comics fandom could be small enough to make Kyle a niche character.

More bafflingly rereading HulkBroly section Tipper showed, maybe DB Researchers dont buy Outer stuff for most of them? Its why most of the big shit is in black boxes. Hulk's preview tbh kinda didnt make the First Firmanent chains that impressive since they didnt mention anything about its Outer implications.
Do they even scale characters as Outer? They'll probably argue them to have higher dimensional strength or existence

I mean they kinda did with the whole "world more real than our own" with the SoG and Otoko, and while they didn't say outerversal, I feel it's kinda obvious why considering the casual audience wouldn't know what the hell that is.

DB generally likes to summarise and compress arguments so that the CA would be able to follow things much easier. It's why I think the higher end, lesser known arguments tend to be relegated to black boxes.

Afaik VSW Outer-like stuff were only mentioned in Ant-man & Galactus black boxes where they implied there were things beyond infinite dimensions, but arguably even thats just Low 1-A.

Yeah they kinda did it, but it also specifically didnt really imply "beyond spactial dimensions". Then again it would have been silly that the episode to actually introduce spacial dimensions goes "actually there are things beyond spacial dimensions teehee" lol

The researchers don't even by the 12.3 dimensional big bang they had Kyle at

Ultraguy had base Kyle at Uni-Multi+

Just finished updating Godzilla SP hax, its now more busted than ever before. Still gotta edit SHIVA doe cause the profile seems to have a few hax forgotten.

Well, to Death Battle, despite the variety, Godzilla is somewhat consistent, like Wiz mentioned.

I agree with that, as all Godzilla incarnations share some basic hexes. The major differences between Godzilla incarnations are mostly marked on their tiers, TBH…

Okay, Im not in DB discord, so I often try to say things about them that I recall from memory which can be years ago, or make schizo hypothesis on how they work. But uhh, this right here would have massive implications.

for exemple? Except Goku vs Superman, obviously
Off the top of my head:

Gohan VS Superboy, Piccolo VS Martian Manhunter, Vegeta VS Wonder Woman, Frieza VS Darkseid, Moro VS Amazo, Gotenks VS Firestorm, Ribrianne VS Star Sapphire, Demigra VS Trigon, either Cell or Majin Buu VS Doomsday depending on who you ask, and Dyspo VS Barry Allen probably will be one in the future.

Who do you think wins these?
