DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Yeah heard this spiel before with the likes of Demonbane and many other Japanese media. I don't trust a word from a website that puts the likes of Tucker Foley at multiversal.
Demonbane actually got re-researched by properly looking into its own games and lore and hit Tier 1 and 0 (I think) on its own merits rather than some werid cross-scaling to Lovecraft. So even that got somewhat fixed. Still don't know why the profiles were never done, though.

Yeah. Ultima approved a Tier 0 rating for the verse, but that was under the old system. The profiles are still being heavily researched, and I believe the same team working on the profiles is the same team currently working on entire fan translations for the visual novels.

I recall the whole fiasco regarding Hulk vs Broly and the meltdown it led to and the consequences it has now for superhero scaling nowadays (was this from Ultra's blog posts looking back on previous Death Battles?), where everyone is as overpowered as possible. It's a reason why I find annoying that the (admitedly many) bad apples of the Godzilla side turn Godzilla itself and all his fans into this sort of freak show to point and laugh. And for the record, yes, comic book fans have done crap like issuing death threats to authors, harass writers and artists in the internet and real life, spam in social media and even harassment at conventions of cosplayers and artists. The unhinged comic book nerd has been a meme for decades for this reason. This is why I find hypocritical the whole "Goji is being wanked by ill tempered shitheads? Pfft, Goji and his fandom are such a bunch of manbabies!" vs "X Superhero is being wanked by ill tempered shitheads? Haha based chads!"

EDIT: Not taking a potshot at superhero fans BTW. My point is just that crappy people exist everywhere and those aren't the entire fandom, just the, unfortunately, loud bunch.

Ah crap, had completely forgotten that the standard changes happened after the Demonbane CRT. Would that mean they would have to redo the case again in another CRT?

yes from his retrospective blogs
You can watch in real time his personal dislike of multipliers infect his research. With his multipler shit at least that came from somewhere, (sorta, in his Beerus vs Galaxia blog he got 'asked' how he felt about multipliers and injected his opinion), he genuinely just headcanoned base form God tiers out of existence one day after Broly vs Hulk got it right.

To this day I don't think he's ever admitted/rectified that.

Because we really don't need to see the same old match up done again and again, it's just gonna get boring and stale. I'd rather Goku and Superman get paired against other characters for a change.
Yeah, I suppose, though it's kind of a tradition at this point.

(This is gonna seem extremely out of left field or not the place to do it, but you're the first new mod I've seen in days and I'm genuinely this desperate. Would you mind checking out this CRT? It's got 10 agrees but only 2 are mods so it's stuck in limbo and it's probably the most important big-verse CRT we have going right now)

Name one single, possible connection that Superman and Scarlet King have. No, Scarlet King being generically evil does not count as a counterpart to Superman.

I mean, its the definition of a contrast matchup

Also, 'generically evil' is a massive understatement. Even without the whole 'is the abstract concept of evil across all things that do, dont, and might exist', the Scarlet King has some of the most vilely evil actions in modern fiction.

Ok? Superman isn't the concept of good, he just generically represents hope. Scarlet King is also someone's Gary Stu OC based on our VS conventions located entirely within a fanfiction site, while Superman is the definition of corporate and ruled by a big company.

1. SCP is not, nor has it ever, been based in any VS conventions. You are unbelievably ignorant if you believe that to be the case. The SCP writers guild as a whole even made a formal announcement after SCP was removed from this site stating that there was never any use of Battleboarding ideals in the SCP community, with an informal discussion that came before that announcement which was equal parts mocking and shaming this community for even thinking that it had any sort of influence over their writing as well as being genuinely shocked at the audacity of claiming to have created numerous concepts and ideas that have existed in the writing and scientific fields before battleboarding was even a thing.
2. I dont think you know what the definition of 'fanfiction' is. SCP is its own narrative, its own work of fiction. Saying that SCP is fanfiction of itself implies that any lengthy work of fiction is just fanfiction of itself. Marvel and DC is stupidly long and has a ton of writers, is it fanfiction too?

1. I have literally watched SCP evolve in real time to utilize whatever is popular in VS at the time in their characters. Immortality is popular? SCP characters are now impossibly immortal and SCP-682 levels of hard to kill. Dimensionality is popular? Their stronger characters are all now higher-dimensional. One of the reasons people knew this was happening as evidence it needed to be deleted from VSBW, was because VSBW fans were literally sneaking it into Tales and stuff and then pointing out that it was that easy to buff the characters... and also doing the opposite like bringing up the Tale where SCP-682 died from crashing into a tree while drunk driving.

2. Marvel and DC isn't decided by someone who saw characters' articles on the Marvel/DC wiki and then logged in and made up new stories. Not like it would be wrong to call their current work fanfiction of older runs

Thinking abstractly here, how exactly would a statement like that be dispositive of the conception that no battleboarding ideals whatsoever were emergent within or itself affected the SCP community? A generic “writer’s guild” doesn’t have the authority to change any influences in the heads of any writer or the things those writers are passively reading (and possibly at least subconsciously projecting); the claim that something like that could be functionally anything other than a handwave is sensational.

What even are dimensions?
Unironically we cant even answer this consistently. Depending on context, dimensions are either other word to describe universes. But in some context it might refer to spacial dimensions, that sth is higher/lower dimensional in spacial directions.
One of the funniest things to me was how Reddit pretended to care about Kyle Rayner as a character, as if they weren’t just using him as a vassal for capeshit powerscaling.
Kyle being GOAT in Reddit is weird. The dude is a nobody and suddenly he has that many fans?
Lowkey further proof capeshit has become too dominant in DB.

Because the SCP community actively sees the Battleboarding community as a nuisance that gives them a bad name, to the point that they have added numerous rules to their writing guidelines and standards specifically to ban the use of battleboarding terminology and the writing of stories solely made to make characters stronger out of nowhere.

It would be like us deleting a verse like Marvel or DC for using terms like 'dimensions' and 'multiverse' for being battleboarding terminology.

1. Ah yes, narrative concepts that have existed for centuries, no, millennia, must surely be solely battleboarding-related ideas an thus deserving of deletion. Surely the writers themselves coming out and collectively confirming that battleboarding has minimal to zero influence on SCP, coupled with the numerous rules banning the use of battleboarding terminology and mechanics, is just them all lying and coping. You include immortality or dimensions in your work of fiction? You must be a battleboarder! You might not even know what that is but you are one. Surely there are no other verses in fiction that have these concepts while also having their stronger characters become higher dimensional tiered out of nowhere...OH WAIT.

2. Neither is SCP

“Because [community of thousands of people] actively see things just this one way” is not a legitimate line of reasoning, especially in a community where there’s no centralized authority besides the culture formed from what’s actually written. I also wouldn’t expect the claim to be made that there isn’t legitimacy in being part of the fandom in having truthfully beaming interest in the stories being written while also actively using them for powerscaling means, and would respectfully remind you of the irony of such an attempted exclusion also extending to someone like yourself.
