I mean sure but there's alot of Superman expies out there, I feel like a more thematic matchup cool be made fairly easily. Hell even Doctor Manhatten who is an expy of Captain Atom would probably make more sense.

There's also the result of an experiment and "evil side" connection with Void and Monarch I think. But I'm overall not too enthused by a matchup with 2 high tier reality warpers, especially if other matchups, namely for Sentry, provide a contrast

Theme is basically extremely powerful heroes who were given powers through experimental accidents, and began acting as big new star heroes of their verses, but end up suffering from god complexes, mental health issues and deeper, darker self destructive powers and alternate personas.

That's pretty ooc especially for his 90s stories, where he spends a majority of the time trying to escape the shackles of the US government. The only reason he really works for them is because of manipulation and blackmail.
It was unfortunately the 2000s where they had no idea what to do with CA and just straight up regressed his character. And this even more unfortunately became his big defining trait going forward.
But Captain Atom nonetheless still has own fair of issues, from PTSD, to identity crisis, God complexes and even depression. As well as dealing with the fact that he is literally a man out of time and the world he knows is long gone.

What's funny about this is that in contrast to Sentry being like, proper dead, Captain Atom has technically 3 versions of him running around throughout the time stream but no one remembers because DC couldn't give less of a **** about this guy.

Thunderbolts sadly ended up losing money, but Sentry did leave a positive impact that probably saved the movie from downright flopping. I hope it does inspire Marvel to revive him. Sentry vs Captain Atom or Superboy Prime ain't happening for a loooong time, so maybe we can get time for Sentry to get some new stuff.
Though at the same time, the guy who usually makes Marvel Characters stupidly overpowered is Cates, the same one who decided to axe Sentry.

Apparently Cates didn't even know that Sentry was still merged at the time. Though if I'm being honest, I don't think Merged Sentry would've performed much better against Knull.

They didnt give Tom crazy speeds and lives problem seems issue even with his backups.
