Unpopular Opinions and (Friendly) Rant thread

Wait, english ships are female? So azur lane and kantai collection were right all along...

Yeah, i didn't realize up until now

Like now it can even recognize when a word is a name and shouldn't be translated because it starts capitalized in the middle of a sentence
I mean, I could be mistaken, but I've seen a bunch of times people refer to a ship to as "her" or "girl". Though it could just be a form of endearment.

Ships are culturaly considered female. That is the case for most countries, regardless of language. Only Russians consider their ships male iirc. Singular ships in Germany were considered male as well, like the Bismarck.

A theory on why is that sailor crews are historically completly male. Sailors are extremly superstitious people and they form real bonds with their vessel, because its what keeps them alive on sea.

Ah, neat. Thanks for the info.

Not surprised about the attitudes of sailors, given the sheer hardship they had to face historically at sea.

Looking around a bit, seems that in Spain it was a bit of a case by case. For example, army ships are considered male, merchant ships female, a transatlantic male, a frigate female, etc.

I see, Spanish speaking sailors are homosexuals.

Yeah our word for ship - "korabl" has a male gender and so do most ship denominations. The only ships you could call female are gallera (galley) and sh(-)hoona (schooner). Calling a ship a she is a tradition in English for sure but in Russia, since words are already gendered, you don't need for such specifics.

It may due to language in Russia, but the tradition of considering ships female is completly unrelated to the language in of itself. It is purely, and I mean purely, a traditional, cultural thing.

We call ships women because of how many men they carry. Damn hoes!!!!!!
Nah, this is a hoe:

So Secret Life came out halfway and next time we should be getting the illfated Concord episode. Been thinkin', that episode will probably make more money overall than Concord ever did.

Is there anything genuinely good about MHA?
Yeah, it's a pretty solid Shonen, people just clown on it because having your typical weeb freaks + your typical anime studio + a disproportionate amount of young people makes a fanbase weird and horny, and the main characters being students makes those people look worse than they would in any other setting.

Fun fact: 14 is actually the worst age!

I watched 2 episodes of Dandadan and so far it's okay
I mean it doesn't seem to be as great as it was hyped to be but I do enjoy it so far it's a nice little silly show

I'm reading "it" and every time someone mentions the turtle i hear in my head the "I like turtles" meme
