it is the unlinearity that I like. When I play HK I feel like I'm free to explore and that is the fun part of it all. When I want to play a game, I want the game to have a lot of 'game' in it. I want a lot of non-repetitive content that I can go through at my own pace. Hollow Knight, in addition to its pleasant combat system and extremely good atmoshere of the setting makes me enjoy it ever more.I guess it has to do with how un-linear it is? It sets itself up on more of the metroid end of metroidvanias, and I'll be honest I've only played the first metroid on the NES, but it just doesn't feel fun. It feels aimless, and with so many areas connected to eachother it gets overwhelming. It's not like Dark Souls 1 or the handheld Castlevania games, where there's still multiple diverging paths that lead to shortcuts or new areas yet the amount doesn't feel overwhelming. It's still alright in my opinion, but it's not as amazing as I've heard it is.
Feeling overwhelmed is a personal feeling that I can respect, but it is for sure not an objective truth.
