Since the topic is somewhat relevant to the current report, I won't get into off-site comments since the report mainly focuses on that, but generally speaking the stances that have been recently taken over racist, homophobic, and even transphobic remarks has created what I feel is a generally unwelcoming and "safe" environment on the forums.
People have made outright terrible remarks that don't even try to hide it, like in the Arkenis post, but what's even worse is the leniency towards "it's just a joke."
When someone says something so disgusting, and they do it so consistently when do people wisen up and start to realize it's not "ironic" it's not just a "funny hahah" they genuinely believe what they are saying and are just hiding it under the guise of being a joke. Even then you can still make a joke and believe in what you're saying, there's a difference between a joke and satire, in fact there's a good quote I remember that goes like
"Satire is meant to mock those in power, if you mock someone who's hurting that's just bullying."
Back on track though, I remember when the Dread situation was happening and people were making outright transphobic remarks, using the situation as an excuse for their bigotry, saying stuff like "It was obvious they were a T SLUR from the start" or "Another one down" clearly in reference to trans people. As a trans person myself, I feel very scared even interacting with some people in passing on the site because I know of their history, and yet they remain.
Regardless, though, I'm not surprised MonkeMan has made comments like this, especially given his past behavior and actions. Yes he brought up that stuff that Raven said, but at that point if both of them are bad then just punish them both.
My point is, when do we realize that making jokes like these are inherently harmful and the people making them aren't joking, they just believe in the bigotry they're spewing and are too scared to say it outright.
Edit: I'd also like to say, this is mainly a complaint about members and how this behavior has festered. For the most part, I believe most staff members do a good job at trying to moderate and prevent this kind of stuff from happening, but so many of these people who are the problem are so buddy buddy with each other that they just vouch for each other and make excuses so they get to stay.
