Pokémon General Discussion Thread Gen VIII Part 2: Where´s my Primal Arceus?

Oh right just so you know Tate and Tsurugi are actually their last name. Soudo and Schildemilia are their first name. It's gonna be fun to see how weird their names are gonna be in the english localization.

No clue. They probably just named it the Japanese way so the Japanese readers don't get confused with their name. Also I guess it's to follow the manga tradition of naming them after the games. They will probably be nicknamed Sword and Shield in the future.

Also Shield kinda reminds me of Akko from Little Witch Academia with her personality. Sword seems like a mix of Diamond and another character that I don't remember the name of.

Boys throughout the gens: Red, Ethan, Brendan, Lucas, Hilbert, Nate, Calem, Elio, Chase, Victor.

Girls throughout the gens: Kris, May, Leaf, Dawn, Lyra, Hilda, Rosa, Serena, Selene, Elaine, Gloria.

Neat! Didn't know the Sw/Sh player characters had been officially named! Not trying to deny/disprove it, just curious, but when was it announced? I feel like I tried to keep up with spoilers, but it seems like maybe I missed that.

Aight so we can safely say that 50% Zygarde is somewhat comparable to Ultra Necro, despite his small screentime. Obviously a ton weaker, but comparable. It's said directly that Zygarde returns to perfect if it is reduced to half stamina. Meaning Zygarde would've had to be taking enough blows to be reduced to half and not die before Complete could trigger.

Rotom dex said

"That was Zygarde's 50% forme, when it's stamina drops to half of its full capacity, it takes on that appearance... Now it's changed into its Complete Forme, ZZT!"

in response to

"Zygarde's appearance changed!"

So I am pretty sure Rotom was talking about 50% Zygarde being the form Zygarde takes on when his stamina drops to half and not that when his stamina drops to half he becomes complete forme.

At least that confirms that as expected, HP = Stamina when regarding profiles on the site, so gotta update Ditto as it currently has "Varies" on that for some weird reason.

guessing the power increase from 50% to perfect is just how the name suggest, a 2x increase. not as big as i thought it would be. necrozma still a monster in raw power tho

In other news, stall is dead in competitive, Dynamax nukes everything and Gengar getting Nasty Plot to nuke even Chansey in National Dex at Smogon doesn't help.

In fact, it seems Dynamax will have some clauses as it isn't really competitive, too broken.

That's a lie. I've seen plenty of Pokemon survive Max Moves from all sorts of different UP percentages.

The problem is that it encourages and punishes randomly good strategies.

For example, as Choice items stop limiting your movepool when Dynamaxing, allowing to do uncompetitive scenarios of stuff like Togekiss using Max Flare when Choice locked onto Air Slash to some Steel type, Togekiss also being able to get boosts from moves doesn't help.

Also, Smogon uses Dynamax at peak, so the UP percentage stuff really isn't something applicable here.

Ditto suddendly becoming A rank only because of it speaks by itself, it's centralizing the metagame.

You probably just suck at the game. I know I do.

Ditto centralizing the metagame is unfortunately very hilarious.
No, Dynamax is, Ditto just became a reliable check as it can just use Imposter to copy Dynamax and all.

After all, phazing doesn't work on Dynamaxed Pokémon at all, so using Whirlwind or Red Card for example aren't options.

If it doesn't have Imposter, Transform just becomes Max Guard as it's an status move.

Yep.

This gen also killed stall even in the National Dex metagame, the classic of Chansey and Gengar walling each other is no longer a thing as he gets Nasty Plot, meaning that now Chansey turns into setup bait to then sweep the whole team.

Or how Bolt Beak has no checks beyond Ground types, which also hate Fishious Rend unless your name is Gastrodon.

Oh yeah, also, if you try to switch out so you move first (and the power duplication of those moves doesn't happen), it actually doesn't work and the move will still get twice as much power, likely OHKOing the poor thing that comes in, this also includes fast pivoting with Volt Switch, U-Turn, Parting Shot, etc.
