Being reasonable, not wanking/downplaying and all that stuff is important and all, however from my personal experience I've made friends here primarily due being nice, respectful and reaching out to others to find things we have in common besides VS debating.
Everyone in this site is an actual person, so it's only natural you'd socialize with them like you would with real people. I'm no "expert in socializing" and everyone makes friends differently. However I'd definitely say that being kind without appearing needy, casual without appearing disrespectful, discovering common interests between people to talk about and reaching out to others while also being approachable yourself are the best ways to go around making friends in general.
The reaching out part is a really important. Many people including myself sometimes just expect relationships to come knocking on their door. It doesn't usually work this way. You've got to put yourself out there in order to meet new people.
One of the reasons I like this community is outside a little bit of toxic drama (which all sites have) here and there, the people here are especially kind. So getting others to like you should be fairly easy and not something to at all worry about.
