Friday Night Funkin Discussion Thread

In case anyone is interested, I prepared a profile for Lemon Monster.
looks fine but its name isnt lemon monster its unknown with the placeholder of ''monster'' and i disagree with the weakness because imo the rap battles are legitimate battles that can harm people like boyfriends bones breaking and i really dont see why characters like spirit and monster who want to kill and possess him would be singing and then not do it in the end.

Yeah, it may be at least a year before we can start really doing profiles, since April 2022 is the predicted date of arrival- not to mention all the bonus weeks.
that was the predicted date for the base game alone without any stretch goals iirc and its now going to be much longer now.

also i have a good amount of some important twitter statements screenshotted since they deactivated such as resistance to mind manip and his skeleton actually cracking

i mean Spirit said "I'll beat you and make you take my place" so it's possible that the rap battle is somehow required for him to possess a person.
I have absolutely no explanation for Monster tho.

I feel like that kinda proves my point more on how he needs to like weaken boyfriend in a way to make him possessable and its also confirmed that his skeleton does crack after losing so he is harmed by the singing in a way

Yeah i guess that makes sense
The full game is supposed to have cutscenes anyways so they'll probably show us if Boyfriends singing alone stops Monster and Spirit or if he does something else.

This was brought before i believe, the problem with the mind resist is that it can both mean "they can't be hypnotized" and "they can but they will insta die", so it could be either a resistance or a deadly weakness

I think it means that they would die without loving each other? if it actually is resistance to mind manip it would probably be very minor, since the statement implies that's the only thing they can't be mind controlled to do.

hm i see. could it possibly be both? like maybe if the resistance to a degree but if it is somehow negated or overpowered and then another character can make them forget their knowledge of love or something then they could die maybe? it would be funny to see a character pull off that off specifically in a vs battle too

That would make any fight with BF vs someone with mind control a stomp if the person has prior knowledge

I am very surprised that practically everyone missed this, but the character is literally called Lemon Monster when referenced in the description of the game on Newgrounds. I have not seen this mentioned in discussions nor on wikis, but this is a fact. The name "Monster" is merely the name of one of his songs and his file's name, so that name was not confirmed to be the actual name of Lemon Monster.
The weakness will be there until there is further context of the game's singing being subliminal fighting besides how characters have capabilities to easily defeat Boyfriend and besides how there is a supposed HP bar for how good Boyfriend sings (which are the arguments I've seen previously in this thread). Those are not definite evidences. Currently it would be considered headcanon, even when factoring in scrapped combat mechanics since they are merely scrapped ideas. With the information we currently know, Tankman makes it very clear that the characters are actually singing instead of it being symbolic fighting. He was bored that day so he wanted to have a singing competition with Boyfriend instead of killing him right away, and when he attempted to get his friends to kill Girlfriend after two songs, Pico came it with actual combat to hold off the enemies while Boyfriend and Tankman had a final song. Characters having the capabilities of easily defeating Boyfriend suggests that they aren't using them because they want to sing against Boyfriend instead, rather than Boyfriend having the power and resistances needed to combat the characters. The best idea is how Daddy Dearest doesn't approve of Boyfriend but gives him chances to prove his singing skill. Other times, Daddy Dearest sealed the protagonists in a video game or hired a hitman to get rid of Boyfriend, but those situations where Boyfriend was a victim of real combat were conveniently situations that were able to be solved by singing. The video game in Week 6 was one where the antagonist also wanted Girlfriend and wanted to have a singing competition to see who gets her. Spirit doesn't have a complete story to my knowledge but the scan shown by someone else above suggests that Spirit couldn't control Boyfriend unless Boyfriend was defeated in a singing competition. The hitman from Week 3 was Pico who knew Boyfriend before, and it can be easily interpreted that Pico went easy on Boyfriend instead of simply shooting him like he did to the soldiers during Week 7. I don't think Lemon Monster was given a clear explanation for why he doesn't trouble the protagonists after he gets defeated in a singing competition, but we shouldn't use this to make the assumption that singing is subliminal combat. Lemon Monster makes it clear that he is stronger than Boyfriend, so combat wouldn't work. For all we know, singing can be plot convenience so Boyfriend won't die when he totally should because the enemy so happens to enjoy singing. Maybe the trope of spooky intimidating songs affects Lemon Monster's personality. We have no idea, but it is more plausible than singing being quirky combat in this game for the reasons I provided above.

Ok i saw the image
So i was wondering if Lemon Demon could be added in the names section for Lemon Monster, since it's a commonly used fan name.

skid and pump are also called ''spooky boys'' there again its likely a nickname to describe his appearance but this is really not important so i honestly don't really care. "monster" is a confirmed placeholder and ninja muffin said the fandom can really call it what they want until it gets an actual name with most of the fandom calling it ''lemon demon'' for now.

Combat mechanics are actually not scrapped ideas btw they are just still being worked on but im not talking about that.

Tankman is easy to interpret as needing to kill someone right away but they are bored so they rather fight them slowly with singing. ex: someone with a gun can just kill another person but they would rather fist fight. This is further supported PhantomArcade confirming Boyfriend's bones actually crack after losing and the game description in itch io even calling it death. Also the hp bar showing him with x's on his face when near dying. Extra unrelated thing but on the topic of tankman its also confirmed gf would have killed the 2 tankmen and they would have been fine during stress without pico at all.

The scan shown above is irrelevant to spirit and being able to possess him. That just addresses would Boyfriend ever stop loving GF.

The parents want to torment boyfriend after ''accepting'' him after week 2 and in the week before week 7 (lore wise) they sent him on a vacation but it was another trap for boyfriend.

Pico likely wanted to make things fair for bf by singing and not shooting since he knew him in the past as an EX BF.

the simple explanation to monster with all the evidence so far: the singing is the battles and there is literally no reason why monster would not do what he wants. and as bf's hp goes up against monster his face literally shows pain with an X on one eye and a broken tooth to show that BF is winning the actual battle and the simple explanation is that he beats him in the battle and nothing suggests what you said.

The reason Pico challenged Boyfriend to a singing battle was to humiliate him. Not to kill him.
I'm pretty sure he just wanted to rap battle. Like he was sent to kill boyfriend by Daddy Dearest but wasn't told who his target was so when he got there and realized Boyfriend was his target he decided to spare him pretty much.

Skid and Pump are named what they are individually so them being called "Spooky boys" by the developer of this game is perfectly valid even when not official. It's just a nickname for the two together. Lemon Monster is a character original to Friday Night Funkin’ that that was called so, which is as bland as "Monster" but more of an actual name instead of a song name about him or a file name, so the name "Lemon Monster" is the best one to use.
Ooh that might be what they meant by they want to implement more than pushing four buttons. It might be changed in the future then, but until that happens, I will keep the weakness the way it is. I can always edit it when needed.
That makes sense but I will mention something important in the next paragraph that also has to do with this. For what I can answer here, characters against Boyfriend have not died because of Boyfriend singing better and Xs as eyes don't necessarily mean death. It can mean pain or even inconvenience. Lastly, when was it confirmed that Girlfriend is that strong? It's believable and interesting so providing evidence for it will be nice.
The scan mentioned that Boyfriend resists mind control, and possession is very similar. Boyfriend probably has a resistance to possession without singing being combat anyway, since possession is negation and not something he can fight off. Boyfriend resisting possession probably has to do with the idea that Boyfriend's love is too strong. The scan also mentioned that Boyfriend would die if not loving Girlfriend, so that explains why he gets physically damaged when losing a singing competition. This also helps my point about Tankman, since Boyfriend getting physically damaged because he lost a singing competition makes perfect sense in this game without singing being subliminal combat.
I don't know what the "The parents want to torment boyfriend after ''accepting'' him after week 2 and in the week before week 7 (lore wise) they sent him on a vacation but it was another trap for boyfriend." paragraph proves in relation to my point.
That was my point with Pico, instead of singing being combat, singing was their own way of deciding the result of the awkward situation where Pico was hired to kill someone he liked before.
Lemon Monster appears to be stronger than Boyfriend and the user interface displaying someone completely inaccurate to what is shown is questionable as explained in the third paragraph of this response.

never said it does kill im just saying it could cause some type of damage to at least escape or survive

gf can kill the tankmen herself: could have sworn he said it somewhere but i cant currently find it, however its already implied by her about to transform into her demon form as well as the link i put in the next point.

they were already fine without pico:

how does losing a rap battle = not loving gf since gf can also make him retry using unexplained power after losing which debunks that point which uses the scan and if one stops loving they BOTH die. the scan is still irrelevant to spirit and tankman and doesnt really connect in anyway and since its debunked it doesnt really matter anyway.

parents tormenting boyfriend is why they give him chances and invite them to the spooky house in week 2 and send on a vacation on the week the narratively happens before 7 its also states the dad would appear again being much harder implying he was holding back:

again if monster is stronger why doesnt he just kill him it was even stated that gf is confident in bf against these threats.

Maybe, I will still prefer waiting until it is very clear that the characters are actually fighting. As of now it is up to interpretation instead of being definite. If there are combat mechanics added, it will be more clear that there is fighting.
Useful, then Girlfriend really is very strong. Maybe the wall level calculation can apply to her.
Boyfriend seems to not know that Girlfriend can restart the scenario so he thinks he failed her or lost his opportunity to impress her. And whatever Girlfriend does to restart the scenario, it is done before any negative consequences of losing the competition.
That's what I mean, the parents are holding back because they are giving Boyfriend opportunities to prove that he is a good enough singer. Their indirect torment are scenarios that Boyfriend solved with singing conveniently.
Lemon Monster didn't defeat them physically right away for an unknown reason that should be similar to the many other explanations characters have for singing.

Combat mechanics and full boss fights are already confirmed to be added in the future so its inevitable that theres fighting

parents holding back ties with them toying with him and wanting to torment him but their indirect torments go wrong.

idk why boyfriend wouldnt know gf's stuff since he met her in her demon form and theres really no reason to hide her powers not to mention they are close enough to want to do 18+ things confirmed by phantom arcade and his original intro to the game. and the negative affect of losing his competition should be his bones cracking so it should be automatic if thats the case.

Good. We just have to be patient to know the specifics of it then we will have clear ideas to put on the profiles.
I don't see what the parents holding back has to do with the singing being combat then. Their indirect methods go wrong but their direct methods look like they really are only singing.
If Boyfriend knew about how Girlfriend can restart scenarios then he wouldn't be blue balled by losing a competition. There is always the possibility that Girlfriend never told him about that ability she has. And remember that Boyfriend's bones cracking is because of him losing the competition alone rather than him being damaged from subliminal combat, not only because of the statement by a developer but because it happens if Boyfriend loses during the Tutorial. What I meant by negative consequences is like Lemon Monster eating Girlfriend or Spirit possessing them.

Tb100%f mods are practically canon at this point, doing mods profiles with certain rules shouldn't be THAT big of a problem

Rules would be needed
Like no re-skins
No re-used characters (Tricky and Impostor for example)
Mod must have some sort of lore behind it
Etc

I mean, mods are fully supported in the kickstarter trailer too, they're kinda "included" along with the canon weeks in it.

We have like at least a year to discuss if we include mods or not.
I agree that if we decide on including mods we should have rules so we don't just add everything.

How about this: based on the Friday Night Funkin' Mods Wiki (yes, there's a wiki), the most popular mods as of the time of this post are:

  • Whitty
  • Carol
  • Hex
  • Mid-Fight Masses
  • Hatsune Miku
  • Tricky
  • Zardy
  • CG5 Edition
  • Ayana
  • Beach Brother
  • B-Sides
  • Neo
  • SilvaGunner Rips
  • Matt
  • Garcello
  • Minus
  • Corruption
  • Neon
  • Bob
  • Tabi
  • Kapi
  • A.G.O.T.I.
  • Shaggy
  • Annie
  • Tord
  • Salty's Sunday Night
  • Starecrown
  • Deep-Sea Date
  • Chara (Hexar)
  • Friday Night Funkin' HD

Once we establish some ground rules, we can start looking through all of these and go somewhere from there.
