Okay, this thread is going nowhere but in circles.
Here are the original arguments and their counterarguments summed up.

• As per the Toei Line-up, "闘いの場は宇宙にまで広がり、両者まったく譲らず宇宙の果てまで必殺技の応酬が続いた。", which roughly translates into: "The battle spread to outer space, and both sides continued to exchange special moves until the very end of the universe."
  • 宇宙 translates into "universe" and "outer space", and prior context in the text, including the lack of mention of the "universe" in the episode's dialogue, and native perception of the kanji suggests that the two instances of 宇宙 are meant to be read as "outer space".
• The Daizenshuu 7 refers to the Anomalous Space as "extra-dimensional".
  • 異次元空間 translates into "different dimensional space"; 異 is "different", 高 is "higher", and 超 is "super"/"extra".
