D&D Adventurer WIP Blog Pt. III

I know he's a horrible monster of pure evil but the dude just looks so goofy to me. Like he's fist pumping himself after a successful minor raid or something.

Yeah D&D has a tendency to make evil enemies have super cheesy names and look kinda dumb. Same thing for Aumvor- he just looks kinda goofy.

Slaadi are probably the worst hit by it. They're horrible monster that make Xenomorphs look a bit tame but their appearance is that of goofy giant frogs.

Could be, they're giant ******* evil lizard beasts that destroy everything but they look big dumb and silly

Actually should we just make a Slaadi race profile? Iirc the Epic Slaadi are pretty strong in terms of power.

The profile should probably follow their standard evolution of "Mud -> Red -> Blue -> Green -> Grey-> Death-> White -> Black" with the other variations thrown in where the tiers/PL line up. The Slaadi lords are weird. Iirc they're just the next step above Black Slaadi but they've limited the rest of their race by controlling the Spawning Stone. But since they're unique characters its probably better to just let them have their own profile.

There could always just be a key for "Slaad Lords" and provide the general stats for them, with individual profiles fleshing them out more, but I'm fine with whatever works best.

I wouldn't mind a temp key for now. But what would we rate them exactly? I don't really remember much about the lords or their strength

I'm not entirely sure. I recall at least some of them being likened to gods, but I can't for the life of me remember if this was solely in regards to relative function or actual power. I'd have to look into that.

I know that the Lords should be comparable to Epic Tier adventuers or Abominations. I also know that the Ygorl is called the ruler of limbo, but the plane is so chaotic I don't know how much weight that title carries.

I seem to remember one of the Slaadi lords fighting the Avatar of Kord to the point that he had to run away, so that's something, it might have been Ygorl.

What tier would that be? Kord fluctuates between intermediate and lesser depending on edition, iirc.

Of course, intermediate and lesser are already not too far off from each other in a lot of cases, anyway (looking at you, Lesser Deity Tiamat > Intermediate Deity Kurtulmak), so I don't know if that would really affect the general tier of the avatar.

According to Dragon #221 they aren't Gods

> The closest things that the slaadi have to deities are the self-styled Slaad Lords. These lords are neither deity nor demigod but are, however, powerful beings in their own right, much like the Abyssal Lords and the Lords of the Nine.

Ygorl is sorta considered the ruler of Limbo

> Technically considered the planar ruler of Limbo, the reclusive Ygorl resides in an ever-changing keep that drifts haphazardly in Limbo's chaotic currents. The other Slaad Lords have never challenged his authority, probably because they are too chaotic to concern themselves with ruling anything, or possibly because Ygorl makes few demands on his domain

What tier would that be? Kord fluctuates between intermediate and lesser depending on edition, iirc.

Going by our Vecna and Asmodeus profile probably something like "High 6-A" or "At least High 6-A"

Yeah they'd be High 6-A based on that feat.

Interesting. So something like "High 6-A outside of Limbo, Low 2-C within it"? Would fit with them being compared to Archdevils and demon lords at full strength.

Speaking of high tier devils, new profile incoming. Malkizid the Branded King. At least 6-B with passive 2-A paralysis/will power manipulation.

Sure that works. Makes sense anyways as Slaad Lords are like, Chaos given form. So while in their realms they draw their power from the plane like Demon Lords.

Yeah for how much effort they put into the game they sorta made a lot of the big bads just outright ******* silly lol

Here's Malkizid, the Branded King.

This marks all of the major enemies from Champions of Ruin being on this wiki. Yeet.

Tbf the first dude took the Mechanical God's magic stone of law and forced everyone else of his race to look like giant frogs. Though ngl that's probably just a retcon to explain the random looks of everyone.

First off good profile. Second off, I'm a tad iffy on the 6-B to High 6-B scaling, since he's scaling to Asmodeus. Someone who was mentioned as being the strongest of the Solars. However, I think this can be fixed easily if you include this quote where another Solar defeats an Elder Evil, showing that this level of power isn't unheard of for top tier Solars. So like "(Stated to be a Solar of unusual power, making him comparable to Avamerin who defeated an Elder Evil and putting him in the same class as Asmodeus when he was a Solar, and thus superior to other Elder Evils like Zargo)". Maybe something less wordy, but it gets my point across

Fair enough, I can add that in.

Thanks. Good job all in all with the Champions of Ruin stuff.

Mmhmm. Gonna find another book to work through now.

You could always do Karsus or that one famous Demilich I guess.

Could. Karsus would be a... he'd be big. And do you mean Acererak?

Karsus' main issue the spells he has access to and yeah, I meant him. I also think Acererak killed some Gods or godlike spirits, so there's some shennigans going on with him.

He killed nine false gods. How powerful they are is questionable, just we know they were strong enough to seem like gods.

I'm almost certain there's also quotes about how Acererak was stated to have the power to become a god, but had not interest in it. I'd have to look for those though, as I can't remember if they're related to the original or in 5e Tomb.

I do remember the thing about potentially becoming a god and being uninterested. Suppose that'd be At least High 6-A...?

Something like that, I'd imagine. Which would fit with him being something like CR 23 in 5e.

I could try to look through Tomb of Annihilatio, when I have some time. Been meaning to, anyway.

...

-squints at something on Tomb of Annihilatio-

"Adventure design by Christopher Perkins, Will Doyle, and Steve Winter, with additional design by Adam Lee. Story consulting by the award-winning creator of Adventure Time, Pendleton Ward."

...huh.

I guess after Vecna ascended he found it to be boring or something . Also this is peak villain motivation right here

> He fills each one with treasure to attract powerful adventurers. He then kills them off in terrible fashion, using deadly traps and monsters while baiting and ridiculing them. The terror he evokes scars their souls, which he traps in his phylactery, the location of which is one of the multiverse's greatest secrets.

> Ideal. "Why be a god when I can be a creator of gods?"

Acererak doesn't only kill you, he also calls you a virgin and a loser, giving you disadvantage on your DC 18 dexterity check to not be impaled by one of his numerous floor traps.

Diabolical.

Guess it explains the horror that is the OG Tomb of Annihilation
