DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Pretty middle of the road episode.

Honestly wasn't expecting them to give Aang a slight power advantage lol. Like if Avatar didn't top out at lightning speed this MU would be debatable going by their Traveler stats.

Very interested in next time though.
Makes you wonder how much of that Aang power adv. is a matter of 'well Genshin getting implied Uni scaling wasn't a thing when we pitched the episode during the kickstarter, therefore...'. Or at least some kind of incredulity.

Personally, I only got halfway through season 2 of Dragon Rising, so I guess I'll catch up before the Death Battle.

Actually its just 1 more ep left, DB funded 24 eps and LightColumbo bonus. AangTraveler is 23rd indie ep.

Been seeing people on DB Reddit that they don't like how there wasn't really an explanation for how Aang and Aether were fighting, and I'm like: You really can't make a good reason why either of they would try to kill each other. Even if Aether was given a bounty and stuff, Aang would likely try to talk him down and that would actually work, especially if Paimon said they should hear him out.

I don't mind Hero vs Hero fights not having a reason, because usually in these scenarios, they're just very contrived and flimsy. I'd prefer we just get into the action rather than justify why two characters who would more likely be friends upon meeting each other are trying to put the other six feet under. But that's my opinion.

Fights without explanations (The ones that start right into the battle) for this season

Bakugō vs Reze (Reze out right stated that Dyanmight had a target on his head and that she was assigned to kill him. Likely just jumped him while he was doing hero work)
Gru vs Megamind (Gru states that "work is going to kill him" at the end of the fight, so he had likely been assigned to detain Megamind due to no one getting the memo that he's a hero now)
Sentry vs Superboy-Prime (Superboy-Prime can break the fourth wall. Bro knows what show he's on, so he just picked a fight with Sentry just because)

Aang vs Traveler stands out because it's hard to reason why they would fight

Damn, that was cool, easily 7.5/10.

Seeing Aether mixing elements that Aang was using was also fun. They somehow tied in power? Which lol, but whatever, I don't mind the downplay. Experience was expected, but the reasoning is kinda weird? "Aether is skilled, but his training is just for finding his sister" and I failing to see how that matters? But whatever.

Aether even took elements category, I trought It would be a tie, but elemental reactions seems to counter so ✌️

Also next time, I don't brother characters, but I glad is something new. 🙏
I always want to know Ninjago scaling.
They did this when they brought Ruby on the show, don't think too much about it lol

As for next time? I'm actually pleasantly surprised that Bionicle is on here, however of all the Lego properties they choose to use, it's an overrated franchise like Ninjago? Alright man.

Anyway, AangTraveler. It was ok, like a decent 6.5/10-ish?

The VA was just kinda ok and the story set up was pretty weak, but the animation is fairly solid and I feel the choreography paired with the elements was really well done.
Research was fine tho I'm not the biggest expert on either. It kinda went as well as I was expecting. I'm surprised they tied in stats and they didn't go for the Tier 5 interpretations but idc tbh.

It's not a bad episode and I think it's well executed for the most part, it's just that I just very much don't care for the MU.

A way I thought of that could've made Aang's death more impactful is instead of him staying paralyzed, have him break free ready to try and bend the sword to see that it's too late, and just before it hits him, have flashes of the previous avatars get destroyed in his eyes leading up to him getting sliced and fading away.
