DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Grus model probably looks the way it does because it functions/emotes better than other Gru models despite looking off. For example, look at Kratos in Krasura, it's the same as the games, but it moved stiffly and emoted like ass (see Kratos smiling). If it looks off, it's most likely for a reason, same situation with Omni Mans model.

Mismatch, will likely have a line about Luffy trying to avenge Ace.
somehow luffy won that cast
They dont buy bleach tier 3/2, why would you think they buy Fairy Tail
Cause they buy 5-A Luffy.
Sheesh... I wasn't expecting all this. I feel like you can a make poll on which Shonen (that usually doesn't have tons of explicitly cosmic feats) is the most controversial/scrutinized on having tier 2 characters.

*Bleach?
*Black Clover?
*Fairy Tail?
*Naruto/Boruto?

somehow luffy won that cast
Remember, the votes somehow thought Frieren can win against Keyleth despite Keyleth having counters and haxes that go beyond anything in Frieren's verse. They're typically slow or just prefer going by 'I like them/know them more so they win'

The dude arguing for Natsu did not do a good job lol
It's Sam, he once said that Berserk is too much for Persona.
I didn't watch the cast but no damn shot he ended up arguing for lake level Natsu

His opinions on any series, as well as their levels of power are utter garbage, no to mention his personality is something I never liked of either of this guy

I dont know why he even bothers to show up to these, what is he helping with? Whats his purpose at all? He clearly could care less just by how he acts

I don't watch many of the DBCs, what exactly is wrong with him?

TBF, a fight can look ugly and still be great, a lot of older eps suffer from using low quality models but the choreography saves them. We'll see

idk much but he was trashed No More Heroes, Kid Icarus, and other series for being outdated and irrelevant. He said Killer Instinct had too many episodes for example.

multi-continental level for a feat I tried to get calculated for awhile that I don't think got one here

Sam is actually what Ben and Chad was in S1, he really doesnt actually debate worth a shit lol

Anyways, Gru is tbh a secretly hard character to animate. He needs a lot of subtle animations and a lot of facial expression. Just a bit less and everyone talked about it, but frankly it prolly is hard to animate Gru and most wouldnt think that.

Plus he has no public available models, idk about the ps2 ones but he has no scarf there

Am i the only one kinda offput by how they reduced the Minion's language to just incoherent babbling?

Gru/Megamind is the one kickstarter episode this doesn't apply to funnily enough, since it was part of the stretch goal for $800,000, but they only hit $740,000, so fans did not in fact fund it., it was just included as a special thanks.

I second that the Gru model looks rather wonky, but also people are being massively hyperbolic over snippets of a 15 second preview. The Bakugo/Reze hand-drawn segment in the building from the very previous episode looked even worse (Reze literally does the meme Kitana low kick from MKX that's been mocked for looking atrocious) but DB fans are much more used to ropey off-model looking hand drawn segments than 3D since like 2/3 of their recent episodes have 1 or multiple odd looking hand drawn bits. It feels like a Dante/Clive situation where people latch onto a less than perfect shot from the preview (remember the bitching about Clive's face?) then just stop caring once the full episode drops and it turns out to not matter at all. Megamind's model in the very same preview looks fantastic.

Gru/Megamind was always going to be the episode people give the most unfair comparisons to the original source material with, since it was always going to be 3D animated (you are joking if you think a sprite fight between these 2 would be well received or a good idea), and frankly, a lot of people just don't clock how expensive and difficult 3D animation is. Anybody expecting Dreamworks or Illumination level models and animation from Death Battle, who are working with like <1% of the budget of even Megamind Rules, let alone the actual movies, was always going to be disappointed.

I for one am still looking forward to peak, and have faith they'll stick the landing. Though I do feel they probably shouldn't have done a sneak peak in hindsight, or at least should've used different clips of Gru, that shot in the aircraft is probably the least flattering one they could've possibly used 😭

Honestly, it probably would have been better if they used sprites or even hand-drawn but it would wiser to wait for the final product

Sprites and hand drawn is tougher, bowser vs eggman looked as good at it did due to the time and money had available

3D is much easier as you just have to animate a single model moving around compared to something you have to do by hand in each frame, also are there even any sprites with them existing?

HD would take too much time and Sprites is down right laughable in no way the latter wouldn't restrict DB up the ass
