Right, as for my opinions on Cell vs Metal...
Knowing that this was ultimately pitched off the back of BowsEgg, this episode does kinda feel like reheated leftovers, ngl.
As a first port of call, I need to make it clear that the circumstances surrounding this episode... really annoy me. Yeah, I know DA was getting bollocked over the coals and wanted to quit because of it, but this does just feel more like a glorified episode of his show than a proper episode of DBa (if you recall my opinion on Buffy vs Blade, you know that's not a good sign). In fact, if you'd told me that MORO wasn't involved despite his accreditation, I would have believed you, because there was no point in this episode that I can see that I can turn around and say 'yep, that's him', it was ALL DA. Y'all know how there were rumors that Takahata101 had fallen out with the ScrewAttack cast before he left as Shadow (only to get a reprisal as abridged Alucard, and then his own set of MeToo allegations came online a few years after that)? Because I'm getting very similar energy here, not least of which the fact that both this and Shadow vs Mewtwo feel like the product of falling out(s) more than they feel like episodes that are a product of passion.
As a corollary to that, the fact that DA voices both characters here is equal parts kinda lazy, AND a product of this production frustration. Now, in fairness, I kinda get the meta(l) (heh...) reason for it - "Metal copied voices in Heroes as part of his powers, so of course he could copy the voice of Cell, right?", but there's an issue here... DBa's are zero-sum fights, and Metal copied voices as part of the story he's a part of. Here, he already has a different voice copied, and didn't going into this fight with the specific intention of copying Cell's powers (in part because Cell is the invader in this fight), so the intent kinda falls apart here (Sonic and Metal in Heroes already had the same voice).
Other than that, there's a reason this episode comes off to me as 'reheated leftovers' - the editing feels like a small step removed from BowsEgg's analysis editing (which you would think isn't a critique, but it does get distracting), the 'I'll crush you' from Metal at the end feels tacked on, A) because that was the best use of the line in BowsEgg, and B) in the same way people balked an ear at the use of 'Flawless Victory' from AkumaKhan... among other examples (EDIT: throw in the 'feel fear' line form ThorVegeta as well). And I don't think the choreography was all that endearing, it was mostly just based Neo getting assclapped until DA turned around and said 'welp, time for him to win now'. If KratosAsura getting noted down as 'turn based' was a criticism there, then why does it feel the same here?
Now, if I'm going to end off with any positives whatsoever - I do think the fight itself looks fine, even if the progression is very clunky. That, and I do think there were a few lines in the analysis that did make me chuckle, specifically Wiz walking off quietly, and Boomstick trying to call him back.
Other than that, 5/10. Might change on a rewatch, who knows?
