DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

arguably 2-B or more actually... they didn't dwelved much on how big the Sonic Multiverse was just accept INFINITY you cowards
Don't you need to affect 1001 Unis to be 2-B? Not sure If they implied that.
anyway can i cope for Mewtwo vs BlackWargreymon for the next season? The Death Battle cast gives me hope
Bet your soul on It, and It will come True.

Ask luzanne fans.

I'm glad people are complaining about the stomps for this season and the Mu too. Like fr what are the connections besides explosions?

Right, as for my opinions on Cell vs Metal...
Knowing that this was ultimately pitched off the back of BowsEgg, this episode does kinda feel like reheated leftovers, ngl.

As a first port of call, I need to make it clear that the circumstances surrounding this episode... really annoy me. Yeah, I know DA was getting bollocked over the coals and wanted to quit because of it, but this does just feel more like a glorified episode of his show than a proper episode of DBa (if you recall my opinion on Buffy vs Blade, you know that's not a good sign). In fact, if you'd told me that MORO wasn't involved despite his accreditation, I would have believed you, because there was no point in this episode that I can see that I can turn around and say 'yep, that's him', it was ALL DA. Y'all know how there were rumors that Takahata101 had fallen out with the ScrewAttack cast before he left as Shadow (only to get a reprisal as abridged Alucard, and then his own set of MeToo allegations came online a few years after that)? Because I'm getting very similar energy here, not least of which the fact that both this and Shadow vs Mewtwo feel like the product of falling out(s) more than they feel like episodes that are a product of passion.

As a corollary to that, the fact that DA voices both characters here is equal parts kinda lazy, AND a product of this production frustration. Now, in fairness, I kinda get the meta(l) (heh...) reason for it - "Metal copied voices in Heroes as part of his powers, so of course he could copy the voice of Cell, right?", but there's an issue here... DBa's are zero-sum fights, and Metal copied voices as part of the story he's a part of. Here, he already has a different voice copied, and didn't going into this fight with the specific intention of copying Cell's powers (in part because Cell is the invader in this fight), so the intent kinda falls apart here (Sonic and Metal in Heroes already had the same voice).

Other than that, there's a reason this episode comes off to me as 'reheated leftovers' - the editing feels like a small step removed from BowsEgg's analysis editing (which you would think isn't a critique, but it does get distracting), the 'I'll crush you' from Metal at the end feels tacked on, A) because that was the best use of the line in BowsEgg, and B) in the same way people balked an ear at the use of 'Flawless Victory' from AkumaKhan... among other examples (EDIT: throw in the 'feel fear' line form ThorVegeta as well). And I don't think the choreography was all that endearing, it was mostly just based Neo getting assclapped until DA turned around and said 'welp, time for him to win now'. If KratosAsura getting noted down as 'turn based' was a criticism there, then why does it feel the same here?

Now, if I'm going to end off with any positives whatsoever - I do think the fight itself looks fine, even if the progression is very clunky. That, and I do think there were a few lines in the analysis that did make me chuckle, specifically Wiz walking off quietly, and Boomstick trying to call him back.
Other than that, 5/10. Might change on a rewatch, who knows?
Im going to honest, this is the most negative Nancy shit I've read and doesn't revolve around any critique around the actual episode itself outside of nitpicks and the circumstances around it, when really the circumstances surrounding it leave no ill will between Death Battle and DA

Oh no I don't know about your endeavors, you just straight up have the vibe of a rwby fan
Rude
Lying is a sin ya know.
I've committed a great many ssins in my lifetime, but lying about this is not one of them
She does indeed.
She indeed does not
Incorrect. If you've actually read the Manga you'd know that none of those attacks did any actual damage to Crona, and that Crona was just letting Maka use them as a punching bag because they knew Maka couldnt actually hurt them. And the vines feat was done while Maka was amped by Spirit, without his Amp BlackStar had to block and redirect those vines away from Maka as both he and Maka acknowledged that a single hit from them would have killed her.

They are from 2010s anime? uhhhh
Someone did actually post deeper connections here a few page back, one of them being about how their skills were fostered by institutions in an aim to make them stronger, though the intentions behind each one is very much different of course. U.A ain't really anything like the USSR.

Oh I saw one black box say Ki can manipulate souls like Emeroods. Moro can beat Tirek and Buu can beat Kirby arguments exist weeeee

The fight could have been closer...if they had just used Super 17 Saga Cell and scaled him above Buuhan destroying the macrocosm. Then again that'd logically scale up the speed gap by a monstrous amount which would just turn it into a stomp in GT Cell's favor. Metal's only hope there would be if his multiversal scaling is treated as higher than Cell's.

So this fight was doomed to be a stomp either way.

Urgh, I hate ad nauseum ass arguments. We already talked about this and he failed to adress me.
They used Toei Cell
Yes, but they dind't considered Universal Cell valid on the episode.
Why 1001 though, that's a weeeeeird number. Why not a flat 1000, and have the cut-off for 2-C be 999 which looks nice
I never understood this tier, why do you need a specific number of universes to be 2-B?
I don't know, ask who design 2-B🤷‍♂️
I'm glad people are complaining about the stomps for this season and the Mu too. Like fr what are the connections besides explosions?
I found the connections for the matchup.
Here, I posted earlier.
