DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Random question: is Nitrous Oxide vs Wizpig still a popular MU? I remember it coming up a fair bit back in the day, even got a blog made for it, but I was curious if it still held up. I was also curious if it was debatable or not, but it turns out Oxide doesn't have a page on this wiki...

I havent seen it get much traction.

Tbf, you could get Mechagodzilla up to High 1-C via SRW, as iirc SRW does have an 11-D statement regarding TTGL and the Goji even scales to that I think?

But even that into play, Metal Sonic is just way too haxxed for Mechagoji in general. It's a decent alternative to Cell ig.

I can assure you, I am NOT pushing for it. It's just that DB is the type to do that MU despite nobody (or very little) wanting it. Heck, does anyone here actually want Cell vs Metal or wanted Ichigo vs Yusuke?

Say what you will on Cell vs Metal, but Ichigo vs Yusuke's been one of the most requested for both franchsies and both make a lot of thematic sense so that argument doesn't fly as well

Composite MechaGodzilla feels even dumber than a Composite Godzilla. At least Godzilla is usually his own autonomous being, with MechaGodzilla it's either the Aliens sent him, we sent him, dead Goji ghost possesses him, or King Ghidorah is wearing bad cosplay. This isn't even getting into all the different pilots/means of piloting that exists between them.

Well the numbers don't lie, it's popular
If all Casts were livestreamed, then CellMetal is in Top 10 from 454+ episode podcast series. Its done remarkably well.

EDIT: It looks like old format wasnt counted, so old chill Casts do surpass it and some older VS casts too. Tsk tsk, oh well.

Based on numbers, Doomsday682 might be contender for this year too.

Makoto Yuki vs Sonic The Hedgehog (Persona vs Archie Comics) They are confused at first and the description doesn’t help a whole lot
Good thing I not the only one confused with this matchup.

Levitation made that video "why is perfect" and didn't help at all lol. The animation on the start was kinda cool tho.

Wait a minute, did I mistake crucial info? Elaborate.
You didn't mistake anything; StarSprite believes the Time Eater isn't Multiversal by claiming the 6+ statements of it destroying "all of reality" only apply to a single universe (which doesn't make sense because more than a single timeline is shown to be affected even within the game itself but I digress). He also uses the Movie Universe being intact as evidence for his point, but ignores that Shadow himself states it was present because of an anomaly created by Black Doom's newfound power.

It's pretty bizarre to me because the first thing I thought about upon Cell vs Metal being announced was that Cell gets Toei scaling. Seems like a no-brainer, no?
It seems to be historical mental block. DB's rule is:
  • Unless specified, all official material related to a character is applied unless found contradictory to the primary source material.
And like, I dont want Toei movies used, but anime is fair game. It mostly just adds to the story. Toriyama even worked and endorsed anime.

Especially since DB uses way more compositing in general. Zelda and TMNT literally contradicts compositing, but no one else but me complains about it.

And for what, it makes DBZ too strong? But everyone does that. Why is it ok for Tom to get multiversal gacha and Godzilla get Ultima that makes vsHulk from lmao to actual debate.

High-end Metal still wins so like no issue right?

You've hit the nail right on the head tbh. I'm sure we've all noticed that 90% of Death Battle fans (preface: when I say "Death Battle fans", I'm typically talking about off-site ones that usually shit-talk the wiki) are pure agenda-pushers that pick and choose the rules that apply to their favorites. Sad.

A weird standard considering many episodes use, especially for their winners, media contradicting their canon, many of these even have proof against them laid out or no evidence, just a "well its an official product so its fair game"

Which I pointed endlessly for Street Fighter for example, their comics except for the ones of the latest game arent meant as canon to the games and there is so much evidence on that its ridiculous to bend that rule for some characters whom win with these

Speaking of Toei movies, why are they used in the Toei profiles. Like I get using Dead Zone, Fusion Reborn, and Wrath of the Dragon, but doesn't everything else straight up contradict what goes on in the anime, like Tree of Might?

We were discussing this on the DB thread a few hours ago, lol

But basically, this is the explanation blog for this:

Any doubts you may have were probably answered at Page 1494 of the Dragon Ball GD thread

Literally last DB this Sunday used non canon movies as supporting evidence for power for both characters
Idk why Toei being consider for Cell is somehow a no no

Honestly, I'm fine with adding dubiously canon or non-canon material to the fight only if it applies to both sides, like if one character gets non-canon material while the other doesn't, that doesn't really seem fair. So as long as both get the same treatment its fine by me.

I mean, at the same time I get the callbacks, but Tree of Might and Lord Slug break the canon so much that it just doesn't feel right at all to have them be placed into Toei canon even with those callbacks. The whole point for everyone going to Namek was to use the Namekian Dragon Balls due to Piccolo being dead and thus Kami dying too, but if he's alive as well in the two mentioned movies, which have to take place after the Saiyan invasion... you get what I mean right?

What even is that channel? (Also looked at the playlist it has, and apparently there are 2 hidden videos on it)
DB Zero is where they will start to post Fight Only videos I believe. It was created like half a year ago so I dunno why they are taking too long.
