DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Tell me how, and I will change the profile while pretending I was doing that all along

Like that for example. The words between > < is what the ref reads as when you hover over it and in the ref box, the parts between " " is the ref itself which treats everything with that wording as the "Same" ref so you'll get every use of this as say, [5], if it's the 5th ref.

How do we make sure people know she's a digimon and not a human?

Big hands
thinking small... why not both? https://wikimon.net/Luminamon_(Nene_Ver.)

Pretty deserved. Kinda eh about it winning 9 awards but people are acting way too salty.

"Colonizer 33" "Spiritually nazi game" "nepo baby industry plant" shut the **** up lmfao.
On a side note, E33 winning as best indie game is ridiculous and disrespectful. Not only they had support from big companies, but they call themselves a AA game

They're still indie. Plus AA and AAA are farsical labels to artificially inflate the value of a game. Kepler is literally a collective of several indie studios to help support indie games.

You'd essentially be saying Enter the Gungeon, Stardew Valley (originally had a publisher help them), Cult of the Lamb, Sifu, and so many other games considered indie that they are not indie.

None of these had a company worth of over 200 million dollars supporting them with a budget of 10 million

Shit, I have seen a pretty good amount of indie developers saying that they are not developers, and not even "niche" ones

Also, comparing it to Stardew Valley is insanity when one was made by a whole ass team with insane budget while the other was made by basically one guy

Devolver Digital has a worth of over 100 million btw. Sandfall Interactive is also a small and new game dev studio, and not owned by anyone else.

Indie devs getting help from another publisher is literally becoming the standard.

What do you guys think about Expedition 33 winning GOTY?
It's a massive successful game that is the almost perfectly designed to appeal to game journos. It's expected and fairly well deserved. Them winning live every other award after that is cringe as shit but again I expect nothing less cause it's that kind of game.
Maybe big cooperations will take a hint and realize that Turn Based games with a linear structure actually have merit and can make a 10 million dolor outclass games with 20x the budget by making a focused and well executed experience.... HAHAHAHA, like that's ever gonna happen. HELL WORLD HELL WORLD HELL WORLD, WE LEARN NOTHING AND EVERYTHING JUST GETS WORSE.

To give better clarity on how Stardew was published, Chucklefish helped with the non-English localizations, Linux, macOS, and console ports, and the technical aspects required for online cooperative play.

The big thing to note with all of that is this was all after the game was actually released, as this was meant to help the creator focus solely on the games first major content update. So for all intents and purposes Stardew Valley did release as an indie game

Devolver PUBLISHES the games and helps with the marketing, they don't give you 10 million dollars and make you a whole team

They call themselves a AA game, what else do you want? Is AA indie now?

To be fair, AA used to be the indie for video games before it got nuked from orbit.

They call themselves similar in scope to an AA game. Again these titles are silly labels.

Also Devolver Digital DOES fund development. Sure not that much but I think you're being a bit too sacred with the indie title here.

Valve was bother technically making AA games while being Indie in the before time. Most of these words are kinda dumb and don't really express ideas probably.
Welcome to the world of language and elitism, where the only things that matters is agenda with a line about as finely drawn as faded chalk

Anyway the more annoying thing about last night was Silk Song only winning one award cause like come on now that game sold like 4-8 million on steam alone. Like I haven't played it but it is kinda wild that it didn't get more recognition.

Honestly, this reminds me of the time my friend said that Little Nightmares should've won a indie game of the year (think they might have said this year even)

The look on their face when I told them they were published by a little studio called Bandai Namco was priceless

The main problem is that this year cooked too hard for it. Quite literally every game in the game of the year category could've been an entire show stealer on it's own on any other year, Clair Obscur just happened to be the one to reach higher than the others. It's like dragon ball where just because someone seems to be disregarded, doesn't change the fact that they are still soloing literally anything else

Geoff Keighley saying indie essentially comes down to a feeling is honestly super accurate when you consider how people treat it even if the way he said it was super ignorant. People forget that budget is kinda irrelevant to what makes an indie (and mostly think of a guy in a basement making some aesthetic 2-D game or some shit), and Hades 2 had a far larger budget (yes I know it's still self-published but cmon budget hardly means shit here). Indie at its core refers to smaller dev team, not a super large publisher, and independent creative control over it. People will point at Baldur's Gate 3 as a counter-example, but it literally is entirely indie, because again people act way too precious with the indie label. Hasbro involvement gets a bit weird here though and a bit muddied but technically still counts I guess since involvement was just licensing for IP and such (and Larian did basically all heavy lifting and self-funded for BG3)

I get that but Silk Song is still one of the biggest games of the year, it should be represented more in comparison. I get wanting to support 33 but all this does is propitiate the stereotype that game journos are bad at games and didn't give one of the biggest games of the year more props cause they got filtered to hard.
