DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Real nitpick, since they gave Sceptile, Krookodile, Greninja, Solgaleo & G-Max Gengar spotlight in fight, Johto and Gen 2 are the only pre-Gen 9 game to not have major fight scene in DB. Mildly annoying. And no Johto Poke has good DB MUs and are rarely used by trainers.
Team Rocket allows for Johto pokemon, Wobbuffet's a star player

I mean with this Pokémon standard its more like feeding the Pilaf Gang to them
Pilaf Gang does not really scale to any valid feat to get past standard Poke scaling. Unless Rockets are ultra frauds, they have better shit.

.

Also, where is that Solgaleo lighting up universe from? Dex entries say only World. Is this a Japanese translation issue with "sekai"?

In the new episode alone it shows Wobbuffet deflecting Pikachu and Giratina. I couldn't even imagine the goats losing

The episode itself shows the quote as world, so yeah most likely

A new user! Hello 👋
Greetings, I did not notice your response earlier on, but thank you for welcoming me to this forum. I don't think there's any threads in which people can formally introduce themselves to the forum, so I just made my first post here like it's "business as usual"--also because I had something to say about the latest Death Battle, of course.

Speaking of which, I still notice myself feeling a bit disappointed that Ash lost even though 1) I assumed Yugi would win and 2) I was not convinced Ash had anything significant to gain the upperhand against Yugi, especially after the G1 blog. And they are both childhood icons to me but seeing Ash lose still leaves me with a bitter feeling, even if the GOAT regular Yugi gets the W.

I would have loved to see an alternate scenario in which Ash did win. Could anyone imagine or picture the scenario of Ash winning and Yugi losing instead? (If Ash only had something that could negate Trap Card effects)

Avatar has had it rough. TophGaara is bad in verdict and animation. AangEd is not considered good (I do recall some people argued Ed would blitz before Avatar State). ZukoTodoroki almost had Zuko win. No one cares about KorraStorm. People already hate AangTraveler. This series is cursed.
Yeah, might as well @DJTiki and the team shouldn't pick Aang traveler in the first place if they don't want to get hated by both sides of the series

Hmmm... okay, kinda very cheesy, but here's something.

How about Ash and Yugi are forced into a Shadow Game, where the loser will fade into the darkness and the winner breaks free, their life force is connected to their Pokémon and Monsters. As the battle progresses, Ash and Yugi's bodies fade further away as their life force weakens the more their allies fall in battle. During the battle, Ash is dismayed that his Pokémon are being devoured by the darkness as they are defeated, but Yugi encourages him to keep fighting, so that he can uphold their efforts as they gave their best for him, and in a similar way, Ash shows his respects towards Yugi for his courage, pride and trust in his own cards, which also causes Yugi to note how strong Ash's bond is with his Pokemon and how much they carry each other. In the final clash, Yugi activates Magic Cylinder to counter 10.000.000 Gigavolt tackle aimed at Horakthy, which initally works but Ash's desire to protect his friends is so strong it powers through the trap, screaming at Pikachu to go as Yugi looks in disbelief, and strikes directly at Horakthy, causing a blast of light that engulfs the area. As he's covered by the light Yugi goes from surprise to acceptance closing his eyes with a smile, with his Life Point counter reaches zero. After everything is said and done, all of Ash's Pokemon are standing around him checking on each other surprised to see they are okay, with Ash's body restored from the dark and he hugs Pikachu in happiness and relief. They then notice Yugi, who is completely fading away. Ash tries to say something, but stumbles the words, Yugi just looks at him with a knowing smile and tells him these are rules of the Shadow Game. Ash's sadness becomes visble as he says it isn't fair, Yugi was so strong and so brave, he doesn't deserve this outcome. Yugi interrupts him and simply replies that it was a magnificent duel. "Be proud of yourself and your allies, World Champion". Yugi finally fades away, the darkness disappears and Ash and everyone returns to the normal world. Ash holds Pikachu tighter in his arms and pulls down his cap to cover his eyes and a melancholic smile shows. "Thank you, King of Games."

And for more soapy melodrama, this would be playing:

Ngl I thought the universe level sogaoleo was because it lit up ultra space
Yeah if "world" is interpreted as universe or dimension, you can also downscale Solgaleo to Necrozma lightning up Ultra Space in the manga which was calced at 4-A to 3-C but can be considered H3-A if you consider Ultra Space infinite in size (or the implication there's only one Ultra Space in the Pokéverse) which also grants infinite speed too.

Ofc the anime was the source material in this fight, so DB likely just used the highest feasible interpretations of the anime lore and used statements from TPC website/Pokédex as supporting evidence.

On a side note, Solgaleo got done very dirty in the competitive scene with Dusk Mane Necrozma essentially being better than it in every way that matters (hits harder, has a better ability and thanks to said ability is technically tanker too). In the current gen DM Nercozma doesn't get Sunsteel Strike but thanks to power-creep it really doesn't matter anymore and now Solgaleo is in a weird limbo where it's still too strong for Smogon OU and non-restricted VGC formats yet has next to zero presence in Smogon Ubers and restricted VGC formats.

If Gamefreak would chill back and spend like at least 6 years making a GOTY worthy pokemon game with expanded lore and world/pokemon interactions that would be a dream come true.
Oh boy, another 'GF bad' comment even though a majority of the blame you're referring to should be laid at TCPi's feet, not strictly just GF.

Although I think the million dollar question is going to be 'what else do we add to this conversation?'. I'm not sure myself, partly on a count of me not wanting an S2 (future games are S2 only, if the leaks are any indication), so I have no horse in this race anymore.

From the top of my head:

-Proper optimization of the games
-An actual art direction. Pokémon games don't need to look like tech demos showing off new visuals, games look so bad because it's a weird mesh between anime characters, cartoony Pokemon, bland backgrounds and unpolished motions. It can come all together with a proper artistic vision.
-Better character development beyond having a name, a gimmick and being the protag's friend. The characters have their charisma but they settle too much with just that.
-Actually expand on the gameplay features they add on. For a while, Masuda or whoever is at the helm says the same excuse at interviews that "Pokemon players don't have time or patience so we are taking out features since they would be too frustrating" which is a pretty underhanded way of putting it on the player how they cut corners in games. For a good while Pokemon games have been adding gameplay features that are barely developed or poorly implemented, an empty open world, a small city with clunky parkour, battle modes that barely get focus, stuff to do with your Pokemon that only work with a specific NPC or are relegated to a one-off instance. Not saying to add 1000 things and be like a Yakuza game, but try to polish what do you add not just to complete a small checklist.
-Pokemon have a massive world and lore. Use it. If a complex story mode would be too controversial then try making substories taking advantage of legends and folklore of past games or so. Take this chance to develop some characters. Substories like Emma's in XY were pretty memorable.
-Give a proper budget to the game. If leaks are to go by, Legends AZ had a modest amount of money to be made. Which shouldn't be acceptable with something as big as Pokemon.
-Difficulty modes? Like seriously, IIRC they once said it would be too difficult and players would be frustrated. But again, they are blaming on the players their screw ups. Yeah, some people just want to breeze through the games, let them, keep a Casual Mode or whatnot. Howver, the games, which have never been particularly difficult, have become too easy with how much stuff you're given for free lately and the quality of life adjustments aren't balanced by upping the difficulty on another end, so while they succeed in making some things more tedious, they also make things even more simple. If modders and hackers can come with difficult walkthroughs be it challenging trainers (adjusted level, moveset, AI and sets), challenging dungeons (obstacles, more difficult enemies, minibosses, etc), I'm sure professional can do as well if they are allowed to.

Like, I get people complaining about Gamefreak can get grating, but it's not coming out of nowhere. Nintendo, Creatures and all of them are well aware that Pokémon will sell regardless of how little they deliver, they did give AZ a small budget, they did waste time and effort on patenting summoning mechanics in videogames to get at Palworld instead of upping their own game. Pokemon AZ is an acceptable and fun game, but that's precisely the problem, it should be much more. But we love Pokemon too much to let go (I did pass on the game though) and we'll excuse anything they do.

Oh thats funny. Solgaleo's Sunsteel Strike has this description; "The user slams into the target with the force of a meteor". Its also literally called "Meteor Drive" in Japan.

Meteors truly are peak in Pokemon huh lol

Speaking ill will about others or others speaking ill to you isn't proper excuse to act in poor taste. That's just being a douche.
Couldn't have said it better myself... WAIT A MINUTE!!

This reminds me of that Victoria Mikoto person who made like 6 sockpuppets here; she was ranting in a Discord server years back about how much she despised Superman,
Ultra malding type sh*t
screaming-lex-luthor.gif

then admitted that Goku vs Superman 3 gave her actual sweat-inducing nightmares lol.
Nah for real dude lol. People can rant and rave all they like, but the moment this stuff is beginning to affect your psyche and has you wake up in cold sweats then it's time to pack it up 💀
