So in the end, the King of Games bested the World Champion.
Just watched it the fight and it left a bittersweet taste, given two of my childhood heroes went at it and one had to fall. But I'm really happy there was respect thrown around and it ended in a uplfting note all things considered.
I think the battle was pretty good, solid in most regards, but if I had to be nitpicky, wish there had been more banter between Yugi/Atem and Ash. You know, little stuff like Yugi/Atem complimenting Ash's unpredictability and improvisation, Ash getting excited at the challenge of Yugi/Atem's neverending plans, both agreeing on how much they trust their partners. Cheesy? Yeah, but it would be in character and remind us why we admired these two so many years ago.
The only other thing is that a lot of emphasis was made on how unpredictable Ash can be and how Yugi can come with complex strategies and dismantle his opponent by simply playing his pieces very well, yet that didn't come up very much in the fight itself. Yugi using more spells and traps to work around Ash's offensive and Ash simply turning tables with off the wall plans could have been a fun way to play on this, though I am aware there were likely time and budget limitations, so I'm being greedy here. But, if I get to be greedy, like Weekly mentioned in his hypothetical ending, I would have also preferred a final clash. Something like, Yugi uses Magic Cylinder to turn the tables and wipe out Ash's team, but Pikachu is still standing (Yugi could have reflected Solgaleo's Sunsteel Strike for example), then Ash goes for a the Z-Move in a final effort against Horathky, after the clash Yugi compliments Ash and Ash gets some final words, something very Ash-like, like he had a blast in the battle, then Yugi gives his signature farewell thumbs-up.
Yeh, I dunno, maybe I got a bit too nostalgic because of this =P
